i don't understand your train of though. first, you say that they are accessible, and that's because they're gorgeous. but then you say that you had trouble wrapping your mind around them. but in the same thought you say that "shoegaze inclinations" kept you from enjoying their earlier albums? When the last one was released I wasn't huge on the shoegaze and felt that it was too repetitive. My opinion has changed since then. This time around I felt the structure of the first two songs was weird, in spite of the accessible sound.

Thank you for reviewing this! I've always heard good things about Alcest, and this review more or less convinced me to DL them....Glad I did too...this shit is amazing! A lot of it reminds me of Agalloch, some reminds me of Opeth, and most of the rest of it is very reminiscent of Wolves in The Throne Room.
But for some reason, I think I like Souvenirs D'un Autre Monde better as of right now....has more of a Folk-tinge to it. But with more listens I may begin to like this one better....

Disagree with the excellent rating, I thought it was lacking - too long to be an EP and too short to be a full length.
It's forty one minutes long, jeesh.

It's not really black black metal, but it has shrieky vox and tremelos, so it might be a good band to ease you into the harsher style.
