This was an extremely well written review. I think your analogy of metal press (first paragraph) was brilliant and nailed it on the head. This album felt forced and as predictable as a Dane Cook joke.

Honor is absolutely horrible.
And I gave the album a 3.
I don't think its great.

I like Becoming the Bull. Think it sounds a bit like their last album.

Best review I've read in a while. Excellent job.
I've heard three Atreyu songs and I have no intent to look into them more.

I have to admit though Exs and Ohs is a guilty pleasure of mine.

I don't mind the song Lose It, the rest is just tedious trash.

I don't understand it. They went from one of the worst forms of music to something completely different, and now they suck EVEN MORE. Honestly, I could tolerate stuff from The Curse and their first one, but this one has absolutely no redeeming factor to it at all.

This is garbage. Good review.

What's with the whole 'must hate Atreyu' thing lol. Don't like the band, don't hate on them.
I thought Lead Sails Paper Anchor was a pretty good album. I've liked a lot of Atreyu's stuf just because I'm into metal etc. and I didn't like Becoming The Bull when I first heard it but it grew on me.

"No, not really. When going in reviewing an album, best to forget their former works."
I agree with him on that. Thrice's Illusion of Safety and Vheissu albums sound totally different and should be reviewed as such.

Splat's in the right here. From personal experience when reviewing Kid A, it made sense to note how different it sounded from all of Radiohead's material beforehand. However, in this case, it sounds like Atreyu's sound hasn't gone elecronic death metal or free jazz bugle horn here, it's just more pop friendly with less screaming.

Is it fair to say I hate this band now but I love their first album? haha
I saw the video for Becoming the Bull and had to turn it off.
I couldn't really tell it was them till the drummer started singing, he sounds the same at least lol. So yea I guess I am biased that I havn't listened to this album but Atreyu needs to stop or something.
I'm pretty sure if they would have stopped at Suicide Notes they would be semi known for something. They kind of killed that chance with The Curse and on haha.

Not as good as 'The Curse' or 'Death-Grip on Yesterday,' But if you love Atreyu as much as I do, You find the parts that rock the way Atreyu should.. I like it. I think it rocks!

Curse is mediocre, Deathgrip is very good, need to listen to this and see for myself if it is worth my attention.

Wow, this album was very disappointing, the chanting, the retarded wanting to be glam rock band, the generic AFIness like songs, all equals a no no for me. I agree "Doomsday" is the best song.

The constant chants and the fact that just about every song follows the same structure is starting to annoy me now.
Has anyone else noticed that there is that one part in every song where everything but the singers voice is muted, so we're hearing a super melodic bit of the chorus, before the entire band comes back in, like some sort of epic moment that fails miserably?
I find it really really boring.

ya, I didn't even have to listen to the song once and I already knew what was comming after each part. Its sad the best part of the band(the screamer) basically is not there anymore. I think I heard him scream on like two songs. But whats sad is that the guitarist shows hints of being good, but then its like they are lazy or selling out so they only leave sparks of what could have been. This Message Edited On 08.29.07

I love Atreyu - I still like them, but this album is horrible.
Changing style?
...you have to realize that as a band when you put out the kind of material Atreyu has put out and THEN come out w/something like this that it's so drastic you can't even classify it as a "change."
If they were going to change ANYTHING, they might as well have changed the name of the band to "Betrayu" and gone for a completely new look as THAT is how much of a difference there is between this album and the previous 3.
