Had a really nice binge session yesterday, this to Roll the Bones. With new phones and good EQ settings, i even enjoyed the production of the last two which usually gives me a headache due to the viscious high midrange/treble. The binge will continue...

And then going from the synth bombast here... to HYF where it's all subdued or tightly wound back
it's a wild shock, like diving into arctic waters

Compared to the gap between Roll the bones and Counterparts, it's not that shocking. Though less bombastic, i think the music follows in almost the same vein as Power windows.

Ok, so I finally upped my rating to a 4.5. I'm getting so damn hooked on this album these days, and starting to realize just how underappreciated it is. The atmosphere here is unreal

Welcome to the based Power Windows crew, the album is euphoric.

Yeah this album is mad, no sacrifices on the complexity but somehow they also pushed forward on the electronics. Like Emotion Detector is basically synthpop

For sure. Gotta give Rush credit for being one of the few prog bands who didn't cave in and abandon their prog elements in the 80s

Man, the chorus of Emotion Detector is so powerful

Definitely my second favorite synth Rush album after Grace Under Pressure these days. Manhattan Project gives me goosebumps

The production here is impeccable. Think about it when it was released in 1985.

It’s not production was bad in 1985? Several very well produced albums 10 years before this

Indeed, very true. Very professional work, career long

Presto, Roll The Bones, Vapor Trails (both), and Clockwork Angels are the worst in my opinion

Caress of Steel is easily the worst. Test For Echo and Counterparts aren't far behind though.

caress has awesome production but not "technically good." its just badass
i always thought 2112 was off a bit cause the songs lack the heaviness theyre supposed to have, like compare that shit to ATWAS
