I find this to be one of their more inconsistent and meandering releases, and it suffers a bit by having a pretty similar overriding aesthetic to Ecailles but without the consistently strong songwriting and more varied style song-to-song that album has. Not that this is particularly long by any means but this is the only Alcest release I feel could easily lose a track or two. "Autre temps" and "Faiseurs de mondes" are among their very best songs but tbh most of the rest of this kind of melds together for me. But like I said above that could be more due to my having spent less time with this than most of their other albums. Probably should drop my rating tbh.

I feel the same tbh

Beings of Light is quite boring tbh, even though it want to love it really bad

I have a very similar opinion about Spiritual Instinct compared to Kodama, though SI lacks highlights on the same level of those here. Hoping their next release shakes things up a bit more, relatively speaking.

I kind of agree, but I prefer SI as an album tbh. First two songs and The Mirror do it for me. Rest is also gud

Idk, SI has a higher average rating than this both here and on RYM. Hell, SI's average on RYM is only 0.01 below that of Kodama which is absolutely wild to me.

SI is easily like 4th or 5th place, i don't understand that.

SI's super lame nuclear blast production sheen is obviously a huge barrier for some and other ppl just dont care about production at all

Yeah its really missing that fragile ethereal feeling for me, way too chunky and muddy for their sound.

hard to pick between this and Écailles for better album - this one is more unassuming and endearing, but also slightly blander (and that's always quite the feat given Alcest in general). neither of them are a patch on Souvenirs, am guessing that one's atmosphere really went to waste throughout the discog

I like it, good album. Maybe it's a 3.5, needs another spin.

This one should be called "Meanderings of the Soul" and I would be tiny but more favorable toward it. Many great songs here, like the first two tracks. It's just losing focus as bit, so it's stuck somewhere between 3.5 and 4.0 territory for me

Reading this thread made me realise I never listen to this album, whenever I'm in an Alcest mood I always go with one of their other albums

"Ecailles is alcest’s peak money in the bank"

Well, yes and no. Shelter and Kodama and the debut are just as good tbh.

As much as I love Ecailles, it's uneven
