Finally really getting into this and their other releases. I’ve had Orchid and Morningrise in rotation for over a decade and never really bothered with anything beyond this point.
The review is right about the epics here. I obviously love the previous two, but they definitely feel like a collection of song sections rather than something that builds up to an ending. Those sections are great, but even after listening to them so often I struggle to remember which song they’re supposed to be a part of. Whereas here, a song like When or The Amen Corner is instantly recognizable. More concise.
All that being said, the clear highlight is Demon of the Fall, which I DO remember from 10+ years ago. Good shit.

this is definitely their most concise metal album for sure. Glad you made it here finally. Their next one Still Life is pretty lit as well

I can't be mad at people calling it #1 though, especially if it's their first. I kinda cycle in and out of adoring it. I started with Watershed so when I first heard blackwater park it was like -oh shit-.
Front to back it's a very well-executed album and sounds great. I rank this and Still Life above it but there's yeah like six 5/5 albums that kinda just shuffle around the ranks as time goes along.
