The production on My Boy stood out to me too Ash. Album has strong Reputation vibes, but instead of an identity crisis over good production its an identity stretched far too thin over what could have been a shorter, better album. This is better than Midnights tho

Answer me this, as someone who is at the very least a casual fan of Taylor Swift, why the hell does she insist on releasing multiple versions of albums, one of which is always, always bloated to hell? Does nobody in her production team have the heart to tell her to leave stuff on the cutting room floor?

Or it is so far from what I've heard, a double album is not something pop stars should just ho hum into
|

"You know how to ball, I know Aristotle"
damn she really was studying the blade while we were all partying
|
| |
If she wanted to release a double album, she could've just done that. Having a regular album and then the same album but doubled feels like a weird marketing choice

Going through the lyrics now and oh my god hahahah

A large swathe of her fanbase are insatiable and unquestioning, in-group Taylor Swift elitism is almost defined by how much bloat you can stomach and how many "hidden gems" you know from what are, yes, hopelessly bloated projects. Swifties just like the fat.

Didn't get it with Midnights either and its million versions, and I actually enjoyed a good few songs on Midnights

Taylor Swift, lyrics and songwriting aside, desperately needs to diversify her singing cadence and flow. Her songs all sound the same because she has the same 5 vocal deliveries that she recycles and then just talk-sings most verses. It makes me (someone who doesn’t like Swift but am always curious when she releases something) feel like I’m just hearing her release the same album over and over again and it becomes a cultural moment for whatever reason.

I miss the Folklore era. She actually felt like she was trying. Just a cursory glance at the deluxe length and the lyrics make it feel like she's on autopilot, and I haven't even listened to a single song from TPD yet

Rolling Stone apparently gave TPD a perfect score

She shouldn't have included Florence on this because it just made me realize this would sound way better as a Florence album lol

Florida was the worst song imo, that was the only one I actively disliked lol. The rest was either solid, mid, or huge banger (broken heart)

I think its worse than that AnimalForce, I think she is trying DESPERATELY hard but lacks the editorial figures to tell her to cut some nonsense. She's praised incessantly and excess has worked to this point (as evidenced by the Eras Tour), plus I genuinely believe that the horrendously on-the-nose phrasing and desperate attempts to inundate white girl depression with depth are as thoughtful an attempt at "poetry" Taylor can come up with. Plus she needs to be more subtle about wanting to be Lana.

No I'm not saying Florida was good, just that Florence outshined her

on the one hand this is true, and on the other hand it just makes it dramatically obvious when she, e.g., tries to work a Lana cadence into her usual schtick
have made it the whole way through and drafted about the standard length for a standard review and ngl feel absolutely drained. hope Nord VPN has my back while i take a fucking inspo nap (soundtracked by guess what)
and yeah Florida is trash bur Florence is ace on it, one of taylor's better features in general maybe
