Am I the only one who thinks Koenig sounds a little bit like Thom Yorke at times here. Especially the opener.

"Mini soundoff: Overhyped indie darlings finally capitalize on the wealth of resources thrown at em."

Just based on the style of music alone and how ambitious it is, I'm unsurprised at the disparity in opinions. That said, I've always enjoyed stuff that errs on the side of "over the top" and that takes risks, even if they don't pan out.

I do prefer this to the debut (only other album of theirs I’ve heard), but admittedly that was quite a low bar to clear

This may be ambitious in the context of their wider discography, yet I wouldn’t know. In isolation it’s not exactly difficult to digest or understand, so I’m a little confused by that statement in all honesty

I think in the context of indie-pop/rock this is very fairly ambitious. I'm trying to think of a similar band that would try to write 'Connect'.

I agree. I went into this halfheartedly. I hadn't paid much attention to the singles, and although I didn't hate Father of the Bride, I thought they were fading out. But the ambition and risk-taking throughout the album has astonished me to be honest. This is relatively complex and challenging music that deepens with repeated listens, and no other similar band I can think of is doing anything like this at the moment.

There may be lots of reasons for some to find Vampire Weekend annoying, but on this album, lack of ambition or growth is not one of them.

this is a pretty fair assesment on the whole but I personally wouldnt consider this amazing, but even at their peak, i still had trouble staying engaged in full with any of their albums, and this is no different for me even if i appreciate it for what it is.

The only other album that could have been this ambitious was MGMT and well that failed

Demon your top tag is experimental so maybe not to you, but in terms of indie rock/pop, this is

Hope might be one of the most beautiful songs of the year, such an incredible closer.

I don't now why, but I find the line, "I know you're tired of tryin' / Listen clearly, you don't have to try" from Capricorn oddly comforting.

I think different verses are addressed toward different things, but yeah, hope is not 100% inspiring and that seems to be the point
