4.0 excellent | mmmonty | October 14th 20 | this is my first real introduction to Zorn. i had heard a song here and there, i think, but no
album all the way through. this is excellent, much more accessible than i had been expecting.
sure, there's some sqwonking and some squealing, but it never felt like, say, Coltrane's
"Interstellar Space" in its abstractness. The sqwonk and squeal feel less like confrontation than
*texture* for the overall composition. you can feel the melody even if you can't pick it out and
hold the whole thing in your head. plus, i mean, how good is Joey Baron? just the bee's knees.
This is just great stuff and I can't wait to dive into more of Zorn's massive, but not unwieldy
discography.
