As with plenty of the more obscure works John Coltrane had performed on, there's really not an awful lot to say Cattin' With John Coltrane And Paul Quinichette. Things are most obviously done in Quinichette's preferred style, which is the slower, bluesier form of hard bop that is pretty much exactly the opposite of Coltrane's preferred style in this era. That said, Coltrane is proficient enough in said style that he is able to compliment Quinichette when he takes command and vice-versa. It's basically interplay for two tenor saxophones, but this kind of thing was already done better and doubly on the excellent Tenor Conclave, even though Cattin' does it in much slower, low key style. Basically, if you need some laid-back hard bop that focuses on the tenor sax, you really can't go wrong with this.
