4.5 superb | Alabaster Jones | May 29th 15 | A mathcore/grind group from the twin cities, The Crinn has been making music since 2004, and take heavy influence from bands like SikTh and The Dillinger Escape Plan. Though they've been active for a decade plus, the band didn't really grab much attention until 2010's Dreaming Saturn. This album, the follow up, is decidedly better and more entertaining than its predecessor. The sound of this album is very reminiscent of early Dillinger, and while it's not exactly as good, it still packs a mean punch, as ferocious opener "Wanderman" will show you. What follows is a consistent, well thought out beast of a mathcore album with a couple of instances of melody and experimentation. The crown jewel of the record is "Deaf Effort", the penultimate track, which makes use of the best riffing on the album and a bassy build-up to craft an incredible song. Still waiting for new Dillinger? This should tide you over and then some.

3.5 great | Bedex | April 19th 19 | Great instrumentals - albeit with some wanker solo bits - ruined by a constant barrage of bad vocals. They never stop and are just generic metalcore. If you look at bands like Death, Converge, TDEP etc, the vocals are impactful because of the voice but also because they pause, have dynamics etc. They don't just scream constantly, whereas here at least twice per song the singer(s?) go AAAAAAAAAAA and absolutely never shut up. Opener is a great jam though, and the second track has some tasty sludgey riffs too. 3.3

4.5 superb | transgoggle | March 3rd 17 | Other soundoffs comparing it to TDEP aren't wrong but i want to stress how damn melodic this is compared to pretty much any other mathcore, while sacrificing close to none of the intensity because yeah, this is what i've been wanting from this genre.

5.0 classic | BRAman22 | May 19th 15 | Shadow Breather is a fierce mathcore album that is reminiscent of a more well produced Calculating Infinity.

5.0 classic | OfficialBlissfucker | May 14th 15 | The blend of dizzying mathcore rhythms, complex drumming, insane vocal performances and trippy psychedelia make Shadowbreather a wholly unique and interesting listen. Worth every second of it's brief 27 minute runtime.
