Review Summary: Intersting Music...

Rarely, are there opportunities where you get a chance to get a co-sign from one of the biggest rappers in the game. Now a days, really it's all about making a name for yourself through the internet and through your own marketing. But, that in all reveals how people takes your music and if it's actually enjoyable. But, then there's the possibility of on of the fans you gain from the skill set you display from self promotion and dedication happens to be a rapper of the caliber of Kendrick Lamar. Then you have the people's attention, then you have somewhat of a platform to show even more people what you have already been screaming and yelling for everyone to pay attention to.

Mar E Bassy not only relishes in this opportunity and moment with the attention of those that follow Kendrick Lamar, but he puts it to use in one of the best ways possible. He doesn't try to establish some catchy music, that will become a hit but leaves him trying to wonder how to establish that spark again. He yet, uses it to show us his own sound, a different and unique sound. He is able to point to his vivid story telling in his music and his airy production with his attention seeking and attention grabbing vocals. And this is how you establish yourself as an artist that we will look forward to in the future.

The production resembles slightly to the reverb soaked and aired production of "Tuscan Leather," but his vocal performance and lyrical prowess is actually on the side of someone we can see a Kendrick Lamar relating to and actually becoming a fan of. On "Drunk" he he has a harmonizing background that brings the chords and mixes with the production perfectly, to then actually create a catchy tune that doesn't feel like it was something that was forced but comes naturally. It's riddled and laced with a melody that makes you want to hear more and more of this soothing voice. The music on this EP makes it simple to want to zone out and just enjoy textured music it provides, but for those that want to look deeper the actual lyrics aren't just something to look past as Marc flows and weaves through each and every song about how a female is letting the city get to her, and how he wants her to show the world how she can be strong, and possibly be the one for him.

Or as he does on "On Top" with beautiful piano play in the background about how some may have the dream, but still living that past life or hasn't gained that wealth in the way they had wanted to. He not only presents the problem, but he gives an encouraging message for you to get on top because it will inspire him and give him actually something to look up to. Similar to Kendrick, he uses the name or identity of "Lucy" to identify as Lucifer or maybe just a problem that is trying to append someone down. Even in doing this in depth, and meaningful music the music doesn't lack as the chorus is something to be admired and the music overall leads to a bending, and enjoyable experience.

Marc throughout this project has shown that he doesn't need to compromise to the sound of the current seen to make music that sounds good, he can on his own creativity to create imagery that inspires and sounds inspired in itself. He seems to have grasped the ability to meld creativity, inspirational lyricism, and enjoyable music without the after result being corny. There are hooks to be sung if that's what's you're looking for, there are lyrics to be looked at and understood, and there is great production to bump if you were looking for so. In a way, it leans on to what we were hoping what Wale could become, but with his DC vernacular and different poetic genius instead of the disastrous projects we have received. What makes this project is the unbelievable amount of star potential it wields, along with the ability to present itself as more than just that.
