4.5 superb | twophoton | August 17th 08 | Cove is a grower. The male/female duet sing at a near-whisper, yet the songs reward repeated listening and eventually grab you by the throat with their quiet intensity. It's a remarkable achievement for a debut album. I've never heard anything quite like this. They lyrics are nimble and poignant. Flippant and silly one moment - "I get banged up a lot like a pinky toe." - suddenly shifting to morbid the next - "I tried to breathe without my mouth and almost died." The music backing up the vocals is similarly first rate and catchy. One of the best albums this year, and I can't hardly wait for a follow up. Expectations will be high.
