3.5 great | Scuro EMERITUS | September 27th 17 | An intriguing winter synth experience that requires a little more volume than usual to properly shine. Freeze creates a subtle atmosphere with a slightly haunting feeling, built on a foundation of swishy synths and dull percussion. The album cover is a perfect representation of the isolating music within, which is neither threatening nor comforting. My one suggestion if you choose to give this a listen is to crank it up a little given the low mixing present, my first few tries left me wanting, and even though I kept returning it took some time before I figured out that the sound just needed some more power, then you start to notice some of the details that are obscured. There are more complete and enveloping winter synth albums out there but for a taste you can't go wrong with Freeze.
