4.0 excellent | definetheinkblot | May 6th 10 | Okay, reading the coments: I agree, this is different. Very different. However, I really liked it. I think it really shows Otep's ability to sing, not JUST growl (which she is quite good at). Ur a Wmn Now is a beautiful, yet very sarcastic song. She explains that herself. The entire album is a battle cry, and a social/political protest. I enjoyed it very much for that.

0.0 | Rationalist | January 14th 10 | Imagine OTEP, and imagine them worse. I know that's hard to do, and apparently so does OTEP, because they've combined their horrendous "death metal" and their "provocative and political" lyrics together with an unfortunate melodic side. Now it is almost impossible to imagine a worse OTEP.

3.5 great | GoodApollo12492 | August 25th 09 | i thought the album was awsome. it was diffrent but good. the only song that i had a problem with would have to be ur a wnm now cause i dont think that she should sing cause thats just not her thing.

1.0 awful | ThePalestMexican | August 23rd 09 | Completely not what I'm used to hearing from them, Otep needs to Realize she can only growl, not sing

3.0 good | STIGMATIZED | May 14th 21 | This is the beginning/point of origin of Otep's "hello fellow kids! wanna do politics" mentality, where politics begins to take a forefront. It's still catchy, and it does feel like all the members on the album (same lineup as sevas tra) have definitely improved as musicians. Otep's growls, which sound like a cross-breed between sevas tra and house of secrets, are the worst part here, the damage to her vocal chords is really evident and distracting- from the get go, when she awkwardly screams "lets commit a hate crime". But you know what? It's not bad. especially compared to whatever comes afterward.

2.0 poor | Jared Floryan | November 5th 14 | Aside from the surprisingly earnest "Ur a WMN Now", listeners won't find much else here to even remotely enjoy. Smash the Control Machine is yet another example of an album which doesn't contain a formula that isn't dull and immediately wearisome. A typical Otep release, mostly for the worse rather than the better.

0.0 | Hipster9000 | June 24th 12 | Otep is a growler not a singer. That's for damn sure. If you want good otep, listen to the first album.

2.5 average | PropaneNightmares | March 23rd 11 | The album starts off strong with "Rise, Rebel, Resist" and then after that, they don't follow it up, and the rest of the album is a bore. Their previous albums were better, and I hope their new one that's coming out soon turns out to be good.

0.0 | Bow2LeperMessiah | April 19th 10 | Album falls short of the Otep of old. The Ascension was worse, but this really didn't show much more promise or improvement.
