However, tragedy struck the group in June of 1993 when the group appeared on the Japanese variety show Ucchan-nanchan no Yarunara Yaraneba. While about to perform a game on the show, frontman Wong Ka Kui and Teruyoshi Uchimura, one-half of the Ucchan-nanchan duo which the show centered upon, fell off a high platform. Both were rushed to the hospital, and Wong Ka Kui ended up going into a coma, and shortly died about a week later. Despite the tragedy, Beyond attempted to chug on, with bassist and younger brother of Wong Ka Kui, Wong Ka Keung, taking over vocal duties. However, Beyond eventually ended up splitting in 1999, although the group reunited temporarily from 2003until 2005. « hide |
