The Black Dog
Founded by Ken Downie, Ed Handley and Andy Turner in 1989, The Black Dog are universally revered within the electronic community. Along with acts such as Autechre, Aphex Twin, µ-ziq and LFO, the British group came to define the techno movement known as IDM in the early nineties, releasing several ear-catching EPs and two seminal albums (‘Bytes’ in 1993 and ‘Spanners’ in 1995). Although Handley and Turner left in 1995 to focus on Plaid, Downie continued working as The Black Dog on his own, releasing ‘Music for Adverts (and Short Films) in 1996 before teaming up with Steve Ash and Ross Knight to release ‘Unsavoury Products’ (2002) with the Parisian beat poet Black Sifichi. In 2001, Downie was joined by current members Martin and Richard Dust (owners of the label Dust Science Recordings). Since then, the group have started to play live again and have released several EPs and albums. « hide |
