They originally formed in 1988 under the name Scanners and played an aggressive, Oi!-influenced style of punk in the early years of their career, strongly oriented by their right-wing political views. Bolstered by the striking, passionate vocals of frontman Yoshino Hisashi (吉野寿), the busy, virtuosic fretless basslines of Ninomiya Tomokazu (二宮友和), and the dynamic drumming of Tomori Atsuya (田森篤哉), eastern youth has achieved minor commercial success and recognition as legends in Japanese punk/alternative music for their influence on the generations that have followed them.
