List Of My Favorite Metal Albums
A personal list. Please feel free to comment. I will continue to add more Albums. |
1 | | Black Sabbath Black Sabbath
The opening track is that moment where you realize Black Sabbath IS metal. This album is the birth and reference point to all that is heavy. |
2 | | Death Symbolic
I don't mean to dwell, but I cant help myself in praising the all around excellence of this album. Lyrically, musically, emotionally it has it all and is forever embedded as one the greatest death metal albums. |
3 | | Cryptopsy None So Vile
When I first listened to this album I was blown away by the inhumane vocals of Lord Worm, the blistering attack of Flo's drumming, and the uniqueness of their sound. One of the most bestial recordings in death metal. |
4 | | Cannibal Corpse The Bleeding
Arguably their most solid album. Rob Barrett's fretwork and sound is devastating. A classic Cannibal record in my book. |
5 | | Metallica Ride The Lightning
My favorite Metallica album. This album is a staple in any metal collection. |
6 | | Carcass Necroticism:Descanting The Insalubrious
Arguably their best death metal effort which is in contention with Heartwork. Amott's guitar work and the sickenly crafted songs warrant repeated listenings of this excellent release. |
7 | | Pantera Vulgar Display Of Power
This album got me through some dark times. I am indebted to this badass album. One of thier finest. |
8 | | Deicide Deicide
A solid death metal album from first song to last. The anti-christian subject matter really seals the deal for me. One of my more revisited death metal albums. |
9 | | Dying Fetus Purification Through Violence
Classic oldschool Fetus sound. It is just brutal and unforgiving. |
10 | | Pessimist Blood For The Gods
This album never dissapoints when I feel like listening to solid death metal. No bullshit, just relentless sonic devastation. |
11 | | Sleep Sleep's Holy Mountain
Classic doom metal/stoner metal album. |
12 | | Danzig Danzig
An album you just can't get out of your head. The songs are dark and catchy and cements Glenn Danzig as a metal icon. |
13 | | Infester To The Depths... In Degradation
A more obscure release but this is one of the most grimey, murky, darkened and evil sounding death metal album I've ever heard. It has a raw, sinister feel and it is complete with moments of soul crushing doom riffs. A must listen to for anyone trying to find a blackened, evil death metal sound. |
14 | | Candlemass Epicus Doomicus Metallicus
As the title states, it is an epic doom metal release. A classic in my book. |
15 | | Suicidal Tendencies The Art Of Rebellion
This is an album I was introduced to by my mormon neighbor when I was 11 years old. I would get pumped out of my mind listening to this and in my later years I have come to appreciate the evolution of this band and the craftsmanship of the songs, in particular the shredding and clean guitarwork. |
16 | | Deicide Serpents Of The Light
My second favorite Deicide record and I almost love it more than their self-titled. The track Father Bakers has always been a staple in my metal listening. Solid album through and through |
17 | | Black Sabbath Paranoid
OK, I will just say this: The first 6 Sabbath albums are the fucking best. If I desired to I would put them all in a row 1-6 on this list, but you will just have to find them sporadically spread throughout it. I still mantain thier self-titled is the greatest work of metal in existence and in turn they are the greatest metal band. |
18 | | Fleshcrawl Descend Into The Absurd
What can I say about this album? For maximum cranial trauma and ear rape I highly recommend. Bands just do not make them like this anymore; their music is punishing. A+ death metal. |
19 | | Pantera Cowboys From Hell
It was with this album that marks the Pantera legacy. Listen to some history right here. |
20 | | Aborted The Purity Of Perversion
Not the most classic or greatest death metal album but it is pretty fucking gory and brutal sounding. I got this album when I first ventured into the more extreme annals of metal and it grabbed me. Definately their best release and worth listening to. |
21 | | Death Spiritual Healing
No list of favorite metal albums is complete without at least 2 or 3 Death albums. In my case I might just have 4. A must listen. |
22 | | Evocation The Ancient Gate
Sweden produced a special breed of death metal, one which I love. This demo shatters everything. A fucking gem. |
23 | | Dying Fetus Grotesque Impalement
They recorded my favorite breakdown ever captured on tape. Ok, granted it is a cover of "Bringing Back The Glory" by The Next Step Up, but that doesn't matter. I think they captured the song's energy and delivered it better. This is one the best EP's in death metal. |
24 | | Metallica Master Of Puppets
A monumental release for metal music. This album is Mandatory Metallica listening. |
25 | | Eyehategod Dopesick
I can't listen to Eyehategod without getting the uncontrollable urge to inflict pain, destroy everything around me, crush all meaning and suspend my thoughts in a cesspool of filth and shit where nothing matters except obliteration. Get the picture? Now go listen to this album and try not to contract the infectious nihilism and malevolence. You should probably smoke a bowl just to relax and appreciate the Sabbathian riffage drowned in ear-drum-splitting sludge. |
26 | | Black Sabbath Master Of Reality
A godamn classic. Into The Void is heard in countless riffs by countless bands. |
27 | | Macabre Sinister Slaughter
Picked up this album as a young lad and had a great impact on me. The preoccupation with serial killers and humor makes this album an enjoyable and entertaining experience. |
28 | | Acid Bath When The Kite String Pops
The songwriting of Dax Riggs and the eclectic mixture of genres makes this release a special one in my metal collection. Definately check it out if you want to expand your metal palate. |
29 | | Gorerotted Mutilated In Minutes
There are swarms of bands that have been greatly influenced by Carcass but not all of them are as good as thier UK brethren Gorerotted. This album is littered with blistering catchy death metal that will make you bang your fucking head in. 1234 TIME FOR HACKSORE!!! |
30 | | Brutal Truth Extreme Conditions Demand Extreme Responses
Shredding, Blasting, Blistering, Assaulting, Crushing, Slamming, Grooving, Sickening, Brutal, Intense... Don't know what else to say. Badass? |
31 | | Merciless Unbound
A masterful album. Amazing song writing and execution. Classic sounding from first song to last plus they do a cover of Slayer's Crionics. |
32 | | Mystifier The World Is So Good That Who Made It Doesn't Live
When I heard the song "Give The Human Devil His Due" in the movie Gummo I heard the heaviest, darkest and most evil sounding song I have ever heard. I had to check this album out and sure enough it is a wonderful Black/Death metal record. To this day I have not heard a song that outdos "Give The Human Devil.." in sheer wickedness and evil sounding metal. |
33 | | Death Leprosy
Not much to say other than it is Death. It is excellent. |
34 | | Danzig Danzig II: Lucifuge
Love this album. For those who haven't given Danzig a listen this album and his first album are great starting points. 5 stars. |
35 | | Cephalic Carnage Perversions...And The Guilt After/Version 5.Obese
I picked up this split and thoroughly enjoyed the humor and fun of it. Cephalic Carnage delivers some of my favorite recordings of theirs on this more obscure release. Anal Blast fills the b-side with some catchy grindy death metal. |
36 | | Black Sabbath Volume 4
FUCKING GREATNESS. |
37 | | Dying Fetus Infatuation With Malevolence
Classic Fetus right here. Their most oldschool brutal death metal sounding release. |
38 | | Metallica ...And Justice For All
My favorites list would not be complete without this album. |
39 | | Megadeth Countdown To Extinction
Of all the Megadeth albums this one resonated with me. I loved the maturation of songwriting and overall production of this record. Probably my favorite from Megadeth. |
40 | | Cryptopsy Ungentle Exhumation
The recording of "Mutant Christ" is bowel curdling. It maybe be my favorite Cryptopsy song. Even though this was recorded before "Blasphemy Made Flesh" the recording is so much better. A must listen for any Cryptopsy fan. |
41 | | Motorhead Ace Of Spades
Get the fuck out of here if Motorhead is not a part of your all time favorites. |
