Thirty exceptional albums that are fairly unknown or have a few amount of ratings. |
1 | | Hungry Ghosts Alone, Alone
Minimalistic genius. The kind of album that makes you want to explore the genre even further. From the first song you'll realize right away what you're getting yourself into. The songs create extremely pure and emotional atmospheres right off the bat and then just continues to dwell deeper into itself. Great album to zone out or chill to. |
2 | | .o.Rang Herd of Instinct
Drummer and bassist of Talk Talk form together after the band's end to create one of the most rhythmic and distinct albums out there. Lots of lush layers, tribal and loud. Challenging music for fans of Talk Talk who are looking for more outside of the band. |
3 | | Ensemble Pittoresque For This Is Past
New wave synth band with somewhat of a dark vibe. These guys blew me away the first time I spun the album (thanks Havey) and really got me contemplating on the idea of what kind of genius music that could be out there but just flew under the radar during the period it was released. Compare this to pretty much Joy Division's Unknown Pleasures or Talking Head's Remain In Light with how far it was ahead of it's time. I doubt the public examined it thoroughly enough to really understand what these musicians were doing and it's sad that they're almost unheard of across the board still today, but I'm glad I was able to listen to this epitome of a gem. Unbelievable. |
4 | | Iannis Xenakis Metastaseis
Pretty sure Iannis Xenakis is batshit insane and I'm loving it. Challenging and almost too much of a listen at times, but if you're willing to sit down and stick around for a while you'll probably find it rewarding. This album shocked/terrified me the first time I heard it and it still does at times. Recommend listening to it at night on a walk or laying in bed. If you dislike emotions that you won't usually encounter within music (shock/fear/paranoia) then I would suggest skipping ahead a few albums. |
5 | | Murmuure Murmu?re
Pure |
6 | | Mark Hollis Mark Hollis
Jesus Christ whispers into this man's ear every time he picks up an instrument. If you like Talk Talk, obviously get this. If you don't like Talk Talk, get this and start liking Talk Talk you soulless metal shithead. |
7 | | Bill Evans Everybody Digs Bill Evans
The most heartfelt and classy jazz I've heard so far. Feels like Bill Evans is just dishing out his entire life on his piano, as if he's about to die the next day. Lucky To Be Me is without a doubt one of my favorite songs of all time, one of the few I've ever heard where every single note is placed exactly where I feel as though it should be and the rest of the album shines exceptionally well too. Peace Piece sounds better on here to me than it does as Blue In Green on Kind of Blue. Listen to this immediately. |
8 | | Bill Evans Waltz for Debby
Everything I said above and more. My Foolish Heart almost made me cry. Yeah, I ultimately didn't... and I may be a bitch, but this stuff is ridiculously good. |
9 | | Les Rallizes Denudes '77 Live
Essential noise/drone rock. Extremely addicted to this can barely even describe it's sound so i'll keep it short: get this. |
10 | | Bola Soup
Ambient/electronic release which is somehow balanced so superbly to the point where it almost becomes psychedelic. Tracks draw you in right off the point and progress incredibly. The kind of sound that you could listen to for 20+ minutes and not get bored of. Great stuff to wake/fall asleep to. |
11 | | BT Ima
The best electronic release of all time. Ima is ineffable. BT has an insurmountable amount of talent in creating climaxes within his songs, and I can guarantee the entire thing is a journey you've never experienced before. This album is a gift, changed the way I view music. Divinity, Poseidon, Nocturnal Transmission and Deeper Sunshine automatically make the album perfect. The rest is just bonus. |
12 | | Albert Ayler Spiritual Unity
Most frantic jazz release I've ever heard. A slew of notes are being spit out at thirty a second. Yet somehow it all makes the perfect amount of sense. Really fun and insane stuff. This guy was definitely living life until he killed himself. |
13 | | Thinking Fellers Local 282 Lovelyville
Before Lovelyville I had never heard a group of individuals get together and shit into a mic on a single track for it's entirety. Then I heard Lovelyville. Somewhat reminiscent of Pixies' Surfer Rosa in song structure, sound and style but much more abrasive and goofy. The musicianship is pretty strong all around, my only gripe is that the songs don't progress as often as I feel as though they could. Regardless, it's a great release and definitely recommended. Almost feel as though it's a underground classic. |
14 | | Krzysztof Penderecki St. Luke Passion
Jonny Greenwood loves this, so I do too! |
15 | | Terrence Dixon From The Far Future - Part 2
