My Current Metal Playlist
what's in my iPod right now. i'd appreciate some recs along the same lines.
Ya know. Or not. Whatever. |
1 | | Afgrund Svarta Dagar
Pretty solid Swedish grind similar to Nasum and Rotten Sound |
2 | | Annihilator Alice in Hell
Classic technical speed metal. Not my favorite Annihilator but still great. |
3 | | Blind Guardian Somewhere Far Beyond
Can't decide if I did this one or not. More speed metal than power metal and I dig
Hansi's voice, but it doesn't get stuck in your head like 'Imaginations...' |
4 | | Circle II Circle Burden of Truth
Disappointing, and I heard it was their best album. I'd rather listen to bottom shelf
Savatage than this... |
5 | | Deathspell Omega Fas - Ite, Maledicti, in Ignem Aeternum
Extremely imaginative and experiemental black metal. I dig it. Blends cult black
metal, grind, ambient, a lot of genre confusion going on to great effect. |
6 | | Defeated Sanity Chapters of Repugnance
Impressive technical death metal, especially the bass-lines and drumming. Riffs are
too metalcore sometimes. Great example of something good that would be great
with a big fat guitar solo wailing through the middle of it. |
7 | | Deivos Emanation from Below
Overall I think I prefer their second album, but this one has a load of creative ideas
and the songwriting is better on this one. |
8 | | Edge of Sanity Crimson
needs no explanation. |
9 | | Goatwhore Carving Out the Eyes of God
My first exposure to this band. This album gives me blue balls. Tons of potential
but you'll wait a long, long time if you think it's every going to finally deliver. |
10 | | Gorefest Erase
Solid early death n' roll. |
11 | | Grotesque In The Embrace of Evil
thanks for the rec. |
12 | | Immortal Damned in Black
Bridges the gap nicely between their grittier early sound and their epic later sound.
a little too polished on the production, but solid. It's Immortal. |
13 | | Integrity To Die For
Not a big hardcore fan, but I dig these guys for the dark vibe and the thrashy solos. |
14 | | Kingdom of Sorrow Kingdom of Sorrow
Weird blend of hardcore and doom/thrash. This band could develop into something
good if they focus more on writing songs than on sounding like the reject pile from
Down's first album. Kirt Weindstein and Jamey Jasta. I won't hold that against
them too much though. |
15 | | Kreator Flag of Hate
needs no explanation. |
16 | | Mastodon Leviathon
Way better than their first record. It took me a decade to give them a second try
after sitting through that stroke fest. |
17 | | Moonsorrow Kivenkantaja
Not my fav Moonsorrow. This album is a little too mellow and undirected. Love this
band, though. |
18 | | Nails Unsilent Death
Awesome grind/metalcore hybrid. Album feels a little undercooked, but I dig the
sound. |
19 | | Novembers Doom The Novella Reservoir
One of the few doom/death bands I can stand. First half of this album is amazing.
Second half is the reason I don't get into doom/death very much. |
20 | | Revocation Chaos of Forms
Technical thrash on the verge of being death metal. Awesome proggy lead work.
It works a lot better than it sounds like it would. |
21 | | Sarcofago I.N.R.I.
needs no explanation. |
22 | | Skeletonwitch Beyond the Permafrost
fun album that remingds me of everything that went wrong with melodic death
metal. not enough here to justify the length. thinks a little melody can make up for
bad songwriting, which is pretty much the definition of shitty pop music. |
23 | | Suffocation Effigy of the Forgotten
duh |
24 | | While Heaven Wept Vast Oceans Lacrymose
Blends prog, power metal, doom and Floyd. I dig it. |
25 | | Anaal Nathrakh In the Constellation of the Black Widow
Possibly my favorite black metal band ... not their best album, though ... |
26 | | Demilich Nespithe
I can think of a billion reasons why I should love the shit out of this, but it still
leaves me feeling a little dissatisfied, like they took me right to the edge but
couldn't push me over. |
27 | | Insect Warfare World Extermination
grindy goodness. |
