Cool Stuff From 2013
A few albums/EPs from 2013 that I enjoyed. Not all of them are "Best of 2013" for me but I found myself listening to these regularly. It's not in order. |
1 | | Strawberry Girls French Ghetto
Probably one of my favorite albums of 2013 and I am genuinely surprised to not see it on many "best of" lists. |
2 | | Earl Sweatshirt Doris
The production on the album was part of what kept me coming back to it. It is just really fun to jam to. While it's not exactly what I had been hoping for from Earl it's still solid material. |
3 | | A Lot Like Birds No Place
One of my most anticipated albums of the year. I really enjoy this band and I loved this album. |
4 | | Ulcerate Vermis
Probably my favorite death metal release of 2013 |
5 | | Benoit Pioulard Hymnal
Great album, great production. Exactly what I expected from him as far as quality is concerned |
6 | | Coheed and Cambria The Afterman: Descension
While it seems like everyone I know preferred Ascension I found the more meaningful songs on this album. I think of both albums as one so I choose not to pick one over the other but I was not disappointed by this release whatsoever. |
7 | | Elvis Costello Wise Up Ghost
Not his best work but a fun album and very unexpected. A lot of the times it does not work but I respect the attempt |
8 | | Kurt Travis Kurt Travis
A very sincere EP. I was not expecting Travis to be such a great singer songwriter but he really pulls off great music in the genre. I am looking forward to his upcoming full length. |
9 | | Lights Siberia Acoustic
I love Lights. While Siberia was far superior to this EP the acoustic versions of the songs are still amazing and prove that her songwriting stands on it's own. |
10 | | Matt Costa Matt Costa
Matt Costa has been really hit and miss. His debut was great. Sophmore album...not so much. Third was great and I'm not so sure about this one. Maybe it will grow on me but I still listened to it a lot. |
11 | | Ovid's Withering Scryers Of The Ibis
For djent/deathcore whatever you want to call this it is a really decent album. The songwriting is solid and it packs a punch. |
12 | | Streetlight Manifesto The Hands That Thieve
Great album. Didn't jam it as much as I've meant to however. |
13 | | Tilian Pearson Material Me
Excellent debut solo effort. Tilian has a knack for extraordinarily catchy melodies and layered songwriting and he has shown that even in the pop avenue of music he can carry over that talent. |
14 | | Fallujah Nomadic
Solid for the band but not as good as the last release |
15 | | Dance Gavin Dance Acceptance Speech
Not DGD's best release but it's still fun and I still jammed it a lot. |
16 | | Mount Eerie Pre-Human Ideas
Everything Phil touches is gold and while I was extremely leary of his electronic imaginings of some of his most brilliant work it still turned out neat. Not phenomenal, not perfect but still neat. |
17 | | Denzel Curry Nostalgic 64
A solid album. I haven't had much time to linger on it but I have been impressed overall. |
18 | | Gorguts Colored Sands
#2 death metal album of the year. |
19 | | The Speed Of Sound In Seawater First Contact
I only listened to this a few times and it isn't as good as the bands past material but it was still very enjoyable. |
20 | | Vildhjarta Thousands Of Evils
This EP was a sleeper for me. I really didn't care for it at first but then one day it clicked. Probably the best thing the band has done thus far. |
21 | | The Story So Far What You Don't See
Restored an interest in pop punk for me. Great album, raw emotion and catchy melodies. |
22 | | Death Grips Government Plates
Awesome album and while it is not the strongest of the groups release it is still enjoyable and has lots of replay value |
23 | | The Ocean Pelagial
Top notch Prog Metal |
24 | | Deeds Of Flesh Portals To Canaan
I was disappointed by this album in comparison to "Of What's To Come" but it was still alright. |
25 | | Revocation Revocation
Great thrash album. |
26 | | The Dillinger Escape Plan One Of Us Is The Killer
The bottom half of the album is hit and miss but I listened to the first 5 tracks more times than I can count. |
27 | | Fit For An Autopsy Hellbound
I was surprised by how great this album was. For the most part deathcore has gotten really boring for me but this album is surprisingly energizing. |
28 | | Shai Hulud Reach Beyond The Sun
Best metalcore release in a long long time. |
