Texas Flood
Texas - with the plethora of states that opt for the plain color background + state seal cop out, only a few really stand out as instantly recognizable. Texas is without a doubt the most easily picked out of a line up, and it does so with great economy. 1 star, 3 blocks of color. It's bold, symbolic of the strong identity of the state, and tips its hat to the U.S.A. with the best use of red, white, and blue in all 50 states. Perfect Flag | | 2 |  | Tool
Lateralus
California - That grizzly bear is gorgeous. The red underline is a great accent, and a unique stripe placement. Also, their version of the Lone Star is a great compliment to the best state flag (designed a year prior). | | 3 |  | Clutch

Maryland - This one's just so damn regal! A timeless old world style, with great color. The real genius is how busy the flag looks, with only 4 colors used, and how it still remains well-composed. | | 4 |  | Lymbyc Systym

Arizona - I love how this one appears to be an abstract version of the landscape of this state. The vast blue expanse of the desert sands perhaps before the light can fully unveil it, and the copper star rising above the horizon with brilliant red and yellow emerging. | | 5 |  | The Mars Volta

New Mexico - (sorry about breaking the theme, TMV is the closest band that I know of to being in New Mexico... besides if you roll down a hill to far in El Paso you may get there anyway) This flag is no bullshit. Kiss Each Other Clean
South Carolina - This flag is extremely refreshing in that it's a deep south state that decided NOT to incorporate the confederate standard in it's own flag. Other than that, it's another example of less is more, a beautiful palm tree, and a perfectly shaped crescent moon. It's a very relaxing flag. | | 8 |  | Bison B.C.

Wyoming - (yet again, no significant musical activity from this state, but there's a buffalo on the flag, so Bison works) Thank God at least one state has North America's best animal on it. If only they ditched the seal, this flag would probably be higher. | | 9 |  | Stardeath and White Dwarfs
The Birth
Oklahoma - Although it pains me, this detestable state has a nice flag, and the only seal worth enough to serve as the sole art on the state flag. The peace pipe is sweet, but the olive branch is wholly ironic, as if we "made peace" with the Native Americans we dumped in Oklahoma. | | 10 |  | Goatwhore
Blood For The Master
Louisiana - This flag took a lot of balls. Even though the state bird is the Brown Pelican, putting one on the state flag is nearly heroic in its idiocy. But you don't see the U.S. putting a freaking Bald Eagle on our National Flag, apparently Louisiana has a lot of confidence in the majesty of it's seafowl. | |
