| Record Store Day 2014
The annual distro-circus/riot/bear-mauling that is RSD 2014 is at the gates, rfolks! Here are a rfew of the releases I'm looking to snag/ogle, but - more rimportantly - what releases are you rguys/gals looking forward to? | 1 | | Public Enemy It Takes A Nation of Millions To Hold Us Back
How can a body go wrong with the 'pressure-cooker' beats and mixing of
Terminator X? Plus, I hear that one chap is the Ambassador of Vinyltopia this year. | 2 | | Cake The Cake Boxset
Fun for everyone (Well, maybe not for your wallet) | 3 | | Sunny Day Real Estate/Circa Survive Split EP
Red wax and the first tune SDRE has tracked in over a decade? Sign me up! | 4 | | Fishbone Fishbone
Allegedly, its on green wax.
Its hard to imagine this record is almost twenty years old! Its a shame their
recorded output will never match up to their delightful live performances. | 5 | | Joy Division An Ideal For Living
Wish they kept the original artwork. Still a classic piece though, and I'll be stoked
to own a copy for under $30. | 6 | | Dessa The Castor Twin | 7 | | A Minor Forest Flemish Altruism | 8 | | Strife In This Defiance
Edgebreakers, Incorporated? Ingesting the irony on this slab is worth the price of admission alone. | 9 | | Botch Unifying Theme Redux
Definitely not their best material, but its still Botch | 10 | | Cave In Jupiter
Sweet mother of mercy! I'm soo stoked they're finally repressing this. Makes passing on that super-scratched copy I found
awhile back feel that much better. (Twenty bucks for it too, man!) | 11 | | Sick of It All Based On A True Story
Tri-colour!
Wish it was 'Built To Last', but still somewhat interested due to the sweet wax. | 12 | | Sick of It All Death To Tyrants
Tri-colour! | 13 | | Sense Field Building
Red
Half of it is delightful wussed-out post-hardcore, and the other half sounds like a Toad The Wet Sprocket on a bad nineties
hair-day (and acid-bath). | 14 | | The Cure/Dinosaur Jr. Side By Side Series
The irresistable force Vs. the immovable object. | 15 | | Anamanaguchi Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World
Yellow (Or so I hear) | 16 | | Off! Learn to Obey | 17 | | Buried Alive The Death of Your Perfect World
Its on some colour. Victory always brings a little colour to the wax party.
Vogelisms and metalcore. Cheesy, but fun. | 18 | | Wayne Kramer & The Lexington Arts Ensemble -
If Mr. Kramer is involved, its bound to be interesting. | 19 | | Farside Keep My Soul Awake
Blue | 20 | | Ray Parker Jr. Ghostbusters
The glow-in-the-dark picture disc looks pretty neat-o. | |

04.14.14 | Yeah Dinosaur Jr.! | AliW1993
04.14.14 | I'm struggling to get excited about RSD this year. I can't help but feel it's lost its original purpose and is now just a case of record companies fleecing consumers. Some of the prices this year are absolutely obscene, even by RSD standards.
Buttttt I'll still be taking part. If possible I'd like these...
The Twilight Sad - Fourteen Autumns and Fifteen Winters (double LP)
J. Spaceman and Kid Millions - Live at Le Poisson Rouge (LP+7")
John Grant - Gets Schooled (12")
Nirvana - Pennyroyal Tea (7")
Various Artists - The Space Project (7" boxset)
There are quite a few other things I'd like, but that I just can't justify spending that much money on. | Calc
04.14.14 | nun of them | wacknizzle
04.14.14 | Pretty let down by RSD this year. The only thing I'm really excited about is the re-release of Cave In's Jupiter | WellFedWhiteMale
04.15.14 | Ars: Dino Jr. with some Cure action on the side. Sounds like my kind of nineties soiree!
Ali: I see where you're coming from and agree completely. Its definitely turned into a bit of a 'Black Friday" distro-circus, only with packaged "chess sets" in lieu of electronic goods. That said, like you'll I'll still be braving the elements to procure some overpriced goods. What store(s) are you hitting up?
Calc: Awwww. Well, they are (for the most part) terribly overpriced.
Wacknizzle: Yeah, that Cave In record was probably the only "must-have" for me this year. Coincidentally, "Until Your Heart Stops" was a major priority on my list for the last RSD (That and the bulk of Hydrahead's reissues).

04.17.14 | Ouch! Sorry to hear about your predicament, Arcade. How does the 'post-RSD' stock hold up in these stores? If all else fails (and you don't mind crazy high international shipping fees), I know that Reckless Records and Saki Records (Both Chicago based) usually have loads of overstock. They still have a few things from 2013 floating about on the store floor. | AliW1993
04.17.14 | "What store(s) are you hitting up?"
I'm from Newcastle in England. We've got four independent shops, all of which are pretty good in their own ways. I'll hopefully be visiting all of them at some point.
Also, this article is well worth a read. It's very UK-based but I imagine the same issues will exist in the US.

04.21.14 | @Ali: Ouch! That's some scary business. It's also sad that it is becoming more of a deterrent to vinyl production in general. New England area, you say? Is Bull Moose one of the stores you hit up?
@Arcade: Nice on the Nirvana EP. Yeah, most of the stores here got cleaned out pretty early. I camped out at 3 AM and wasn't even able to get everything I wanted (Eight in line). Converge shirts are way rad too. Gotta love that Bannon artwork/design!
@Rowan: I'm not familiar with that band/release. Worth checking? | AliW1993
04.21.14 | England as in UK England... | WellFedWhiteMale
04.23.14 | ^ Shoot! I'm sorry man. I definitely misread that in the worst way possible. |
