menawati
04.22.14 | Ciao, listeno |
Friday13th
04.22.14 | Nice I'll have to check some of these. |
SirDrumsalot
04.22.14 | What about Fleshgod Apocalypse? Aren't they prog? |
menawati
04.22.14 | arent they metal ? this isnt a prog metal list, tho i guess there are some decent italian ones, RPI
is a sort of mini-genre that doesnt include metal |
ExcentrifugalForz
04.22.14 | Im digging these links.
good list |
SirDrumsalot
04.22.14 | It was mostly a joke...but I guess they are kinda prog metal. |
menawati
04.22.14 | glad you like some excent, lots of stuff here that people into the famous 70s prog giants would really like i think |
ZombicidalMan
04.22.14 | no idea there even were 30, let alone 30 great ones
better start checking these out |
zakalwe
04.22.14 | Molto bene list dude with added ott wild gesticulation |
Jethro42
04.22.14 | Impressive list. I'm a big fan of 1, 4, 5, 7, 10, 12, 13, 14, 16, 22, 24
I guess I'll have to listen to 3, and I heard once or twice 9 and 23. |
menawati
04.22.14 | thanks Zak, yes there are loads Zombi and the scene has resurged a lot the last 2 years, much more interesting than most of the shitty prog that comes out of the UK anyway |
menawati
04.22.14 | hail jethro, rec me your faves not on here ! |
ZombicidalMan
04.22.14 | so far I'm really digging 1 and 18, these rule |
Jethro42
04.22.14 | Even if I tried. Oh, and I'm not a fan of 30 |
Jethro42
04.22.14 | I used to know some more obscure bands, but I don't have it in any list of mine. |
menawati
04.22.14 | im not that fond of 30 either does my head in a bit, had 29 and just thought id add it as it's sometimes called classic |
menawati
04.22.14 | http://fabiozuffanti.bandcamp.com/music
seems prolific that chap |
Jethro42
04.22.14 | I think it's the bassman of Finisterre. There you got one more; Finisterre |
MrSirLordGentleman
04.22.14 | So many stuff to dig... wish I had the time |
Jethro42
04.22.14 | He also is in relation with Hostsonaten. He's the main composer if memory serves well. |
menawati
04.22.14 | i checked the first one on that bandcamp page last week, seemed pretty good on first listen then i saw what he was charging and i became prejudiced |
Jethro42
04.22.14 | Confirmed; He's the bass player and does vocals for Finisterre among others (Macera di Cerra, here's another one...) |
menawati
04.22.14 | busy guy eh |
Jethro42
04.22.14 | La Maschera di Cera, sorry. Yes, busy indeed. |
Onirium
04.23.14 | Nice list, I really need to some check Italian prog out. I know 1, 5, 12 and 23, but that's pretty much it. |
scissorlocked
04.23.14 | awesome list man
|
Diamondize
04.23.14 | I've always been meaning to get into Italian music, but I didn't know where to start. Awesome stuff from what I've heard so far. |
sumyunguy
04.23.14 | 1 is absolutely fantastic, as is their other album. Area is without a doubt the most incredible Italian band I've ever heard. 23 is fantastic. Not including Area, 30 is probably my favorite RPI album. Nice list! |
Greem
04.23.14 | feature feature feature |
Greem
04.23.14 | 10 is superb |
menawati
04.23.14 | fur alle und keinen, thus spaketh him |
Nagrarok
04.23.14 | 'If you like Genesis, Yes, ELP, Jethro Tull'
That I rather do, been telling myself to get some of that RPI but I'm always enjoying them good old Brits way too much to actually get to it. |
menawati
04.23.14 | well, check PFM, Quella and Le Orme at least mate |
Nagrarok
04.23.14 | I've heard PFM's Photos of Ghosts, think that's it. But list is marked for future reference. |
Jethro42
04.23.14 | @Nag, check what menawati just said (Quella Vecchia Locanda from 1972 preferably, as exposed), also Maxophone, Locanda Delle Fate, Alphataurus... |
Jethro42
04.23.14 | I could see you digging some Finisterre too. You cannot find them on the list. |
Nagrarok
04.23.14 | I will but I'm playing some Genesis now! :) |
Jethro42
04.23.14 | Stay tuned! |
greg84
04.23.14 | Awesome list! I need to check out some of these. |
menawati
04.23.14 | give 2 a try greg it's probably the most psychedelic one on here and i think you prefer that to the
more melodic type stuff don't you ? and maybe 23 |
Jethro42
04.23.14 | Try Banco del Mutuo Soccorso. I think you've already rated Darwin by them. Get also your hand on 1, 3, 14, 16. Maybe 12. Start it all with 3 if you can. |
Jethro42
04.23.14 | True. I think 23 is a good call for you, Greg. Never heard 2 tho. |
JohnnyoftheWell
04.23.14 | Are the lyrics of La Coscienza di Zeno based on Svevo's novel of the same name? Because that is a really great read... |
menawati
04.23.14 | no idea johnny, what's it about ?
2 is really great jethro, some early PF vibes in there |
Jethro42
04.23.14 | I dunno if it's just me, but your link for 15 doesnt work. Also, I'll get into 2 then. |
menawati
04.23.14 | link works for me ok, you can get the album free tho anyway, at least it used to be free on bandcamp |
Jethro42
04.23.14 | I'm not sure of how Bandcamp works. Do you have to log in to make it work? In the past I used Isohunt but they called it a day, and now I'm all lost when it comes to the torrents. |
menawati
04.23.14 | dont need an account its a streaming service all legal, you can buy them too and download in many formats including FLAC, prices vary but some are 'name your price'
e.g. http://iamthemorningband.bandcamp.com/album/- |
menawati
04.23.14 | looked like they removed 15 from it though it just gives a page which asks the artist to sign in (you dont need an account as a consumer though) |
Jethro42
04.23.14 | Much appreciated, mena. Thanks. |
Jethro42
04.23.14 | You mean it asks the member to log in, in order to have some tracks they say... |
Sabrutin
04.23.14 | Fix 22, it says it isn't in the database but fuck me if it isn't. You just wrote wrong the album title. It's "Forse le Lucciole non si Amano piu", you forgot a "si". :)
Proud to be from Northern Italy as this band. Too bad they have only a few works, singer's voice is really good. |
menawati
04.23.14 | ill try fix it sab but these lists go all wonky sometimes if you edit them. yes jethro i think its
just a log in for the people who can upload music to their own page on there. They used to have the
album on there but probably removed it but didnt remove their account. |
Jethro42
04.23.14 | Damage done with 6. You must be ok. |
Jethro42
04.23.14 | oops 20 would be fucked up at least... |
menawati
04.23.14 | yeah it did get screwed well predicted, oh well |
Jethro42
04.23.14 | hahaha well, priorities are priorities... |
menawati
04.23.14 | oh well the cover of 22 is much nicer than the cover of 20 so its not a bad trade |
Jethro42
04.23.14 | Very true. And what about the music! |
menawati
04.23.14 | slightly prefer 22 but both are great |
Jethro42
04.23.14 | Yes 20 sounds all right. But that album of Locanda Delle Fate all stands out. Except for Sogno di Estunno, the only weak song if there is one. |
Sabrutin
04.23.14 | It's funny because Sogno di Estunno is my favourite song there. Must be because of the lyrics and because I really like the melodies. |
Jethro42
04.23.14 | I couldnt tell about the lyrics. I like that song's ending with these piano and guitar flirting together. That's about it. I might relisten though. Album is full of gems. |
Jethro42
04.24.14 | Profumo di Colla Bianca would probably be my fave. Vendesi Saggezza and A Volte un Instante di Quiete are also excellent. |
sonictheplumber
04.24.14 | incredible list |
Sabrutin
04.24.14 | I love the title "Profumo di Colla Bianca". It feels weird enough. I mean, would you call a song "Scent of White Glue"? :P
I never regretted the effort spent for buying the CD, it really was hard to find (non-mainstream music is a hell to find here).
Truly interesting list by the way. I'm ashamed I don't know a lot of these, but I'm not really into italian prog. I'll save the names to dig them later! |
SmersH
04.24.14 | brilliant! thank you for this
time to go proggin' |
JohnnyoftheWell
04.24.14 | no idea johnny, what's it about ?
It's about a guy with a warped perception of the world in post-WW1 Italy who can't give up smoking and cheats on his wife etcetc. It's written really well and has several different levels (and is pretty funny) - definitely worth investigating |
JamieTwort
04.24.14 | For some reason I've never got into Italian prog anywhere near as much as the classic prog bands from England. Most of it doesn't really do much for me.
Nice list though.
I actually like Il Balletto di Bronzo's debut quite a lot. That one's psychedelic rock though, not prog. Didn't like what I've heard from 30 as much as their debut. |
menawati
04.24.14 | lot of Tull influence on some RPI, think you'd find some you really like jamie |
JamieTwort
04.24.14 | Yeah but in terms of quality none of it comes to Tull for me. I've given the whole RPI scene/genre a fair chance but nothing from it really grabs me like good ol' English classic prog.
I do remember enjoying 22 quite a lot though, need to give that album another listen soon. |
MeatSalad
04.24.14 | Damn dude, per un amico is easily top 10 prog for me |
Atari
04.24.14 | a lot of this stuff looks cool, nice list man |
ale
04.25.14 | saw "la coscienza di zeno" live one month ago. they were great |
beefshoes
04.25.14 | Nice list. I'm checking out #1 right now. |
shredaman
04.30.14 | No kingcrow? |
AnimalsAsSummit
10.07.14 | holy shiz what a goldmine!!!! list is life |
Gestapo
06.22.15 | great list |
Sabrutin
06.22.15 | Take a look at Spettri for a touch of Sabbath. |
Friday13th
06.23.15 | Great list to come back to, mena. BTW have you heard Lucio Battisti - Anima Latina? One of the best, man. |
BallsToTheWall
03.03.18 | Sweet list. |
Jethro42
09.23.18 | Bumped, I'm still surfing on that list.
1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 12, 13. 14, 16, 22, 24 are the ones I know well.
My faves are 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 12, 16 and 22,
I've jammed 6 and 8 a lot lately. Perfect albums with repeated listens. |
Veldin
09.23.18 | important list~ |
Jethro42
02.03.21 | Ah, menawati, you're missing to the prog community. Worth mentioning the 3 opus of Il Giardino Onirico - Perigeo, Complesso and above all, Apofenia. What a series. |
Jethro42
02.03.21 | Not gonna lie |
GhandhiLion
02.03.21 | Some other artists: Confusional Quartet, Alan Sorrenti, Picchio dal Pozzo, Nichelodeon (Claudio Milano) |
Jethro42
02.03.21 | Alan Sorrenti only released one prog album (Aria) that is not exactly prog. |
GhandhiLion
02.03.21 | hm I thought the first two albums of his were prog |
Jethro42
02.03.21 | I don't know for the others, but Aria was introduced to me as a prog album. If memory serves well, it's more like conventional folk rock. Not bad to my point of view, since I gave it a 3.5. Will give another spin. |
DaveTrane
05.07.22 | Cool, gonna jam some records from above |
broitt
06.20.23 | 25, Alusa Fallax: intorno alla mia cattiva edicazione (round about my bad education) is my faavourite Ita Progr album |
