| Scrumptious Skramz | 1 | | Lord Snow Solitude
Absolutely fantastic female-fronted screamo/poweviolence group from Chicago, Illinois. The
dichotomy between abrasive and beautiful is executed flawlessly, and they also strike a pretty mean
balance between PV's technical mastery and HXC frantic simplicity. Highly recommended. | 2 | | Trachimbrod A Collection of Hidden Sketches
Post-rock influenced screamo is easily one of the most oversaturated forms of its root genre, yet
Trachimbrod stand alone: the quality of their music is simply put, just better. Heartily embracing
post-rock, Trachimbrod's focus on build-ups and crescendos is supplemented by diverse and
dynamic songwriting, and as far debuts go, you couldn't really ask for a mature, realized piece of
work. | 3 | | Heart on my Sleeve Stand By, We're Going In For Life
Heart on my Sleeve's vocalist Ina (formerly of The Hope and the Failure) is easily one of my all-time
favorite screamo vocalists, so when this project was formed in 2009, I was ecstatic to learn she
wouldn't be fading into obscurity like members of that community so often do. While the band's first
releases were more heavily rooted in melodic hardcore, each subsequent release saw them growing
beyond that template, culminating in Stand By, We're Going In For Life, their most passionate and
expansive record to date. Ina's trademarked spoken-word passages make a triumphant return here,
framed perfectly by guitarists Gabriel and Kalle's increasing post-rock influenced compositions. This
group is so raw and honest, something which definitely translates here, making Stand By, We're
Going in For Life an album you can't afford to miss. | |
