How have I only just come across this??
Amazing Bands and albums that I have only just discovered recently for some strange reason. In no particular order. |
1 | | Porcupine Tree Lightbulb Sun
It was cheap and had a pretty cool album cover, so I bought it. How disappointing such an incredible album has only just found its way into my life. Incredible band for that matter. |
2 | | Rx Bandits Mandala
Cheers to Audiotree, I came across this gem. Man these guys are about as tight as it gets. Solid stuff. |
3 | | Karnivool Sound Awake
Told to look 'em up by a mate, and holy shit. What a masterpiece. Every song is flawless and an absolute joy to listen to. |
4 | | Mogwai Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will
My local radio station said they're supposed to be the loudest band on earth or something. Anyways I found this album and despite a few reviews saying it's 'average', I really dig this. Clever stuff. |
5 | | The Tallest Man on Earth Dark Bird Is Home
Well it's all over the front page of Sputnik, so I thought I'd give it a listen. I was never really one for this folk-type stuff, but Bon Iver and The Tallest Man On Earth kinda changed that. |
6 | | Between the Buried and Me The Parallax II: Future Sequence
Ignore the ridiculous contrast between this and The Tallest Man On Earth. A friend told me to give them a listen and well, it kinda weirded me out at first but you could definitely say it grew on me. Never heard anything like it. |
7 | | Oceansize Frames
Okay, so I guess I came across these guys a while ago, but it feels weird making a list with 'amazing albums' and not featuring Frames. One of my all time favourite albums. |
8 | | WU LYF Go Tell Fire to the Mountain
Two dollars. It was two dollars and had an interesting name, you could say I had no idea what I was in for. You could also say I've never heard anything like it. An experience more than an album. |
9 | | Violent Soho Hungry Ghost
One of my favourite album covers turns out to hold one of my favourite albums of recent times. First heard them at the Big Day Out festival, hell they're a fun band. |
10 | | Tides of Man Young and Courageous
Thanks to Audiotree again... Turns out I actually do have a thing for instrumental bands. Really nice music to put it simply. |
11 | | Arcane Roots Blood & Chemistry
As a massive Biffy Clyro fan, I was bound to stumble across these guys somewhere on the line. What an absolute riff-monster it is. Sacred Shapes is my favourite on the album, thought I'd point that out for no particular reason. |
12 | | Baptists Bushcraft
I remember when I was like 12 and I heard thrash metal and though "how is this even music?". To be honest I don't really know but fuck, I love this |
13 | | Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds Push The Sky Away
Don't worry, I didn't only just discover Nick Cave, but I never really listened to them until I saw 20,000 Days On Earth. This guy is a goddamn genius, very interesting and thought provoking. |
14 | | Royal Blood Royal Blood
I guess it's new so doesn't really count, but here it is anyways. Super solid album, Probably my favourite duo since The Black Keys, or maybe The White Stripes... well it's good stuff either way. |
15 | | Von Hertzen Brothers Nine Lives
I read about these guys in Classic Rock Magazine, thought I'd give them a listen. What a choice I made. |
16 | | Listener Wooden Heart
Audiotree again... I've never really listened to spoken word music, but the song 'Wooden Heart' absolutely amazed me. What an intriguing and fascinating band. Glad I found it. |
17 | | CHON Grow
These guys are just incredible players. I can't say it's really my thing, but it's just impressive to listen to. |
18 | | Emerson, Lake and Palmer Brain Salad Surgery
My Dad's old LP's again. I had no idea this existed and I gotta say I've been digging it a lot lately, especially the drum track. |
19 | | Big Wreck Ghosts
I heard a track of theirs a long time ago but I never sourced who it was by until now. Thornley's voice, guitar playing and the whole bands dynamics are incredible. |
20 | | Frightened Rabbit The Winter of Mixed Drinks
I was watching an interview with Simon Neil of Biffy Clyro, and he said he was really into these guys, so I thought I'd check it out. Turns out Simon knows some good stuff, really liking this band. |
