First Half of 2015
basic list because i'm a basic bitch. only doing full lengths, no extended plays. |
1 | | slaves (uk) are you satisfied?
punk - To put it short, Slaves has become a self-parody of themselves. The songs are boring and their whole "angry old-school punk" shtick is fucking old. 2.3/5 |
2 | | three days grace human
post-grunge/radio rock - Some interesting ideas thrown around here and there, but the overall execution is vapid, harmless, uninteresting. 2.5/5 |
3 | | teenage bottlerocket tales from wyoming
pop punk - A little too silly for my tastes, even for a light hearted band like this. 3.0/5 |
4 | | refused freedom
post-hardcore/hurricanslash likes this-rock - It's nowhere near as bad as most people would like you to believe, but it's still pretty damn hollow. 3.2/5 |
5 | | kid606 recollected ambient works: bored of excitement
ambient - Nice, relaxing ambient music. Not much else to say about this, though. 3.4/5 |
6 | | metz metz ii
noise rock/post-grunge - A pretty promising release by a band that I'm completely unfamiliar with. Will definitely check their other stuff out because of this. 3.5/5 |
7 | | the i.l.y's i've always been good at true love
noise rock/punk/post-memecore - An interesting debut by what appears to be the new project of former Death Grips members. Not much variety to be found here, but still intriguing. 3.5/5 |
8 | | muse drones
alternative rock - Lyrics are absolute shit, just like it's cover, however I was still pleasantly surprised to hear this. They certainly picked the worst songs here for singles, because there was a lot of high moments found here. 3.6/5 |
9 | | alien ant farm always and forever
alternative rock - Alien Ant Farm continues to make enjoyable music. Nothing mind blowing, mind you, but still very much enjoyable. 3.6/5 |
10 | | sleater-kinney no cities to love
indie rock - A reunion album done right; Makes you pumped to see where they're gonna go next. 3.7/5 |
11 | | blur the magic whip
britpop - Some really tasteful instrumentation to be found here, some tracks are pretty forgettable, though. 3.7/5 |
12 | | sensory deprivation white noise
noise rock/post-hardcore - Messy, loud, disorienting, what's their not to love? 3.8/5 |
13 | | drenge undertow
garage rock - A bit less melancholy and mean spirited when compared to their debut, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Some really great riffs, hooks, and ideas to be found here. 4.0/5 |
14 | | death grips the powers that b
industrial hip hop/memecore - I actually prefer the first disc over Jenny Death. Their, I said it. Both discs are great, however it's just that the sampling and wacky structuring on part 1 is just way more entertaining that on part 2. 4.0/5 |
15 | | local h hey, killer
post-grunge/hard rock/alternative rock - Just like it's title would imply, these guys still know how to make a killer record. Only complaint, however, is that there's not much variety to be found here, and for these guys, that's a bit of a shock. 4.2/5 |
16 | | sensory deprivation unsound
noise rock/post-hardcore/math rock - Much more bleak and "spacier" than White Noise, adding a significantly memorable mood to the album. 4.3/5 |
17 | | cherubs 2 ynfynyty
noise rock - I've noticed that most of the time, reunion albums are usually not all that great. However, with the new Cherubs album, my thoughts on reunion albums have changed significantly. The band's playful humor is still very much present here, the instrumentation is trippy and enjoyable, the hooks are complete ear worms, and the overall quality of the record is very high. If it weren't for the fact that songs like "We Buy Gold" and "Crashing The Ride" where on here, this thing would be an easy 5 out of 5. My favorite record of the year so far. 4.5/5 |
