02.11.16 | black metal has the most boring guitars out of any music. its mind numbing most of the time so i dont know what ur going on about |
ChoccyPhilly
02.11.16 | nah, guitars used in a band like Ghost is more numbing and bland than any black metal - I probably enjoy the ferocity of the drumming and vocals enough to overlook the guitars |
ScuroFantasma
02.11.16 | Nah guitars rule. I can 100% see what you mean though, for me it's solos that I generally feel like that about, they seem really unecessary sometimes. |

02.11.16 | I've always thought, at least in the sphere of prog rock, the keyboards are far and away the highlight, usually. |

02.11.16 | Guitars are a cornerstone of western music |
ChoccyPhilly
02.12.16 | This is more referring to rock than metal, so it's not necessarily about 'false metal nonsense'. I can still get by with metal but a lot of rock/traditional heavy metal puts me off instantly for reasons stated above |
Asdfp277
02.12.16 | i like solos more than riffs, but in general i like good stuff more than not-so-good stuff |

02.12.16 | a wise man once said riffs > solos
but yeah rock is generally pretty boring for me |
ZombicidalMan
02.12.16 | it's hard to put into words, but any guitar that sounds unconventional is what I look for nowadays. I don't mean experimental or complex, just guitar that goes against the norm.
Women and Vietcong are good examples, lots of their stuff has weird rhythms, or they'll have two simple guitar parts combine to sound like one complex guitar. And obviously people like Nels Cline spice up stereotypical Wilco chords with weirdly phrased guitar work and noise. And of course shoegaze with its very wash-y, indistinct walls of sound |
ZombicidalMan
02.12.16 | there's also some riffs which I normally would get bored of, but playing them on guitar reinvigorates them. Like Corrosion of Conformity can be really repetitive and basic, but playing along to those riffs makes you feel like a god |
Asdfp277
02.12.16 | Zombie: listen to The Gathering, especially Souvernirs and Disclosure, you'll like it |
Dmax28
02.12.16 | I'm going to check that stuff out zombie, sounds interesting.
And yea I get you, like mainstream rock guitars and just cliche sounding stuff can be as cringe worthy as anything. Like it sounds like its trying to be badass but it's really not. For the most part guitars continue to impress me though. :P |

02.12.16 | yea whoever said bm guitars are boring effed up. it's like saying the synths in ambient music are not interesting. the whole point of the guitars is to create an atmosphere, not to create interesting riffs or w/e. there's a reason riffs are drawn out and repeated and it's not because they're simply boring (although as Spirit pointed out there are plenty of bm bands with interesting riffs) |

02.12.16 | The guitar was a tool of rebellion, an instrument that jolted people into action while those icons that played crafted out songs to rouse generations.
The guitar was a symbol of hope for the lost, confused and disenfranchised and unified those who wanted to be heard.
