11.11.16 | Kendrick and Andre are the only ones here that would make my top 10, maybe Nas. |

11.11.16 | @Drifter I don't know what it is about Pac but I just love his stuff. If I wasn't so biased, I am sure he would be lower. And I do agree GZA was great and hated leaving him off. I just wanted to take one from Wu and I thought Method Man or RZA were better. |

11.11.16 | 2Pac was a brilliant lyricist and he defined that west coast sound of fun bangers and serious g funk. Personally Dre is a great rapper but I'd disqualify him from a ranking that takes into account being an MC/lyricist cos, yknow ghost writers |

11.11.16 | "@TheMrAlexK who else would be on your list?"
Big Boi(probably grouped with Andre), Danny Brown, Beastie Boys(as a group), and probably Kool A.D. off the top of my head. This is actually a lot harder to do then I originally thought. |

11.11.16 | To whoever said Chuck D agreed. And if Wayne had kept making good music he would have the list. Also Eminem (like him or not) played a big part in the last decade plus in rap. |

11.11.16 | Sorry rant time. I hate the comment "So-and-so is on here so the whole list is shit." So you hated everything about the list? What would you change? Was there anything good about it? I tried to keep my personal opinions to a minimum. These are people who I feel have/had great skills, were popular, and did great things for rap music. I missed several people and I have acknowledged that in the comments. And I realize a lot of this is from the 90s but many agree that was the best decade (along with the 80s). And to be honest, the 90s were my decade. If I were to make this more personal I would have included the Beastie Boys, DMX, Chief Keef, and even Q-Tip. Shit I even loved that song he did recently with the Chemical Brothers. And Pac would probably be number 1 as I loved everything he did. |

Rowan5215

Storm In A Teacup
11.12.16 | "Eminem murdering you on your own shit" is the main thing I would think of if I was going to include him on my top 10. He destroyed so many people on features like Tech N9ne, Krizz Kaliko, Jay-Z, 50 Cent, Slaughterhouse, Royce, Dre, Nicki Minaj, B.o.B, Yelawolf, T.I., Diddy, Lil Wayne, Drake, Kanye |
Masochist
11.12.16 | Can't understand the hate for Eminem. Some rappers get by on their wordplay, some on their rhyme style ("flow"), some on their voice, and still others on their story telling ability. If nothing else, the latter one alone merits his consideration. You guys maybe didn't grow up with Slim Shady LP or Marshall Mathers, but there's hardly a rapper this side of Slick Rick who could draw you into his world like Em could, popular or otherwise. And that's NOT mentioning his wordplay or flow.
That being said, Guru, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, and Black Thought are definitely missing. DOOM could make the list, Talib Kweli could make the list, Prodigy could make the list, Scarface, Dres...well, I suppose that would be my list. |
Storm In A Teacup

Storm In A Teacup
11.12.16 | @ pots well it should go onto his resume that he's never been outperformed working with other artists and has always outperformed them. it eventually counts when you've done it for so long over such an extended period. especially when Forever dropped he was able to represent for a different time in hip-hop than the other 3 in that song. |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
11.12.16 | "pots love you, but you're wrong on this one"

AlexKzillion
11.12.16 | I honestly think Drake had the best verse on Forever. Wayne was Wayne, Kanye was Kanye, and I'm honestly not a fan at all of Eminem's post-rehab style where he pretty much tries to be a misogynistic Aesop Rock who tells fart jokes. |

11.12.16 | this is kind of a weird revival period for hip hop. i think the overload of mongoloid 'hip hop' and trap has sparked something in all these golden age artists to come out of hiding and release new albums for the first time in years. for better (slum village) or for worse (de la soul, arrested development) |

11.14.16 | eminem has that nas curse where the beats are mostly bad but outside of that they can still spit |
Lord(e)Po)))ts

Valkoor952
11.14.16 | Lmao, fuck me i'm stupid

AlexKzillion
11.14.16 | I think his voice is fine as long as he's not using that god awful accent |
Emim
11.14.16 | Can't we all just agree that hip hop has not significantly progressed since The Sugarhill Gang? |

Lord(e)Po)))ts
11.15.16 | Aesop rock is literally the most hipster rapper to like of all time tho so that's counter intuitive |

Hawks
11.15.16 | Eminem > Pac > Nas > Biggie > Big L > Method Man > Jay-Z
Would be how I'd rank my absolute favs, but there's obviously a shit ton of great rappers. |
Storm In A Teacup
11.15.16 | I must be missing some material from Big L because his two LPs, to me, are not enough for all of this talk on him being among the top 10 |
Keyblade
11.15.16 | yea he's only top 1 |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
11.15.16 | i forgot how manly metalcore and posthardcore are

11.15.16 | http://au.complex.com/music/2016/01/the-best-rapper-alive-every-year-since-1979
god this list is shit especially for a site that focuses on hip hop , they omitted many class acts in favor of unnecessary double entries, and the recent years are downright embarrassing. The artworks cool tho |
Storm In A Teacup
11.15.16 | Shia Labeouf 2016 |
Keyblade
11.15.16 | it's pretty accurate actually. its about who was on top of the game that particular year, many of whom had multi-year stretches |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
11.15.16 | I was definitely being sarcastic storm. |
BallsDeep
11.15.16 | yeah but correct me if wrong - 90's hip hop acts like the ones in the list weren't literally topping the radio charts for weeks at a time and revered by every tween on the planet so I'm not sure what metric they're using exactly .
should've been titled biggest rappers alive each year
anyway thats all i've got to say carry on |
Keyblade
11.15.16 | pretty sure they were. dmx had 2 #1 albums in 1998 alone for example. besides i dont think there's any real metric beyond who was the biggest rapper that year which is fairly cut and dry for the most part |
Storm In A Teacup
11.15.16 | all you whack rappers |
Typhoon24
11.15.16 | dmx i think is a beloved rapper for his energy but his lyricism is whack |
Keyblade
11.15.16 | i personally love his lyricism. not the most verbose or diverse, but he was poignant and his rhyming was on point |
GhostOfSarcasticBtrd
11.15.16 | Almighty So tho... |

11.15.16 | sach is right tho |

11.15.16 | Yes someone else mentioned aesop |
BallsDeep
11.15.16 | Nah I believe sach listens to the albums he's rated, even if it's just long enough to write a pretentious paragraph or two about them. Sinternet, on the other hand, I'm not convinced listens to music at all. |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
11.15.16 | Why |
BallsDeep
11.15.16 | bit of an exaggeration but the kid rates about 50 albums a day |
BallsDeep
11.15.16 | maybe |
RadicalEd
11.15.16 | Sinternet is the textbook Young Turks progressive on this site, except he's not quite arrogant and condescending enough.
Also he listens to a lot of cool music and rec's quality shit so shut up BallsDeep. |
BallsDeep
11.15.16 | Getting recs from sin is risky business though Ed, like asking a blind man to pick your wedding tux or something you know |
Storm In A Teacup
11.15.16 | maybe sinternet is rating albums he's heard before, I know, large if legitimate |

06.17.17 | I guarantee you no one my age (18) or younger thinks of Andre 3000 as only an actor. I haven't even seen a single movie he's been in. And not like he's been featured on some of the most popular albums of last year or anything: Blonde, Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight and Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin' |
