Songs From 2016 I Liked
Thought I'd list songs from 2016 that I heard and really enjoyed rather than an album list, considering I listened to a pretty low amount of full albums. I'm getting there but I'm always behind the times. Limiting to one per artist. |
1 | | The 1975 I Like It When You Sleep, For You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware of It
Love Me
Album was alright, dragged on at times but this is still one of the standouts for sure. |
2 | | Alter Bridge The Last Hero
Crows On A Wire
So far my least favorite AB album, but still solid. Myles' voice is fantastic but I miss when he used his lower tones more. |
3 | | Anchor & Braille Songs for the Late Night Drive Home
Nightfall
I really enjoyed this album, title is exactly what it sounds like. Nightfall and Watch You Burn are for sure my standouts from it. |
4 | | Anderson .Paak Malibu
Room In Here
Love the sound of this thing |
5 | | Animals As Leaders The Madness of Many
The Glass Bridge |
6 | | The Avalanches Wildflower
Frankie Sinatra
Haven't heard this whole thing yet but really dug this track when it came out. |
7 | | Avenged Sevenfold The Stage
Sunny Disposition
Haven't returned to this enough to give it a fair rating, but this track was a highlight the first couple go rounds. |
8 | | Bad Suns Disappear Here
Heartbreaker
Yet to hear this either but this song came on shuffle and I'm really liking it. Their debut was fantastic so I'm looking forward to checking this. |
9 | | Biffy Clyro Ellipsis
Medicine
Wasn't a fan of this one as much as the past few they've done. But it's still growing on me, a few real good tracks on it. |
10 | | Bon Iver 22, A Million
33 "GOD"
This whole thing is definitely an interesting listen. I gotta say I dig it though. |
11 | | Bonfires A Reason To Get Home
Walls
I haven't added this to the database yet but it's a super solid EP. |
12 | | Boston Manor Be Nothing.
Laika
This is a jam for sure, it was a tough choice between Laika and Lead Feet, but chose Laika for now. Album doesn't hit me quite like Driftwood but it still packs a nice punch. |
13 | | The Brian Jonestown Massacre Third World Pyramid
Oh Bother
I had never heard of this group before the review popped up on the main page. Pretty enjoyable listen all around. |
14 | | Chance the Rapper Coloring Book
Angels |
15 | | Chevelle The North Corridor
Last Days
Another consistent release from these guys. |
16 | | Childish Gambino "Awaken, My Love!"
Zombies
Man I love the direction he went here, it really works well. |
17 | | Coldworld Autumn
Autumn Shade
Haven't listened to this in a while, but this song is great. |
18 | | Dance Gavin Dance Mothership
Young Robot
That flute solo though...one of my favorite albums of the year. |
19 | | Danny Brown Atrocity Exhibition
Ain't It Funny
Still getting to this one but this track bangs. |
20 | | David Bowie Blackstar
Dollar Days
May he rest in peace. One of the greatest of all time. |
21 | | The Dear Hunter Act V: Hymns with the Devil in Confessional
The Flame (Is Gone)/The Fire (Remains)
Probably my second favorite from this year...and considering these are directly related I'm considering it one song. |
22 | | Devin Townsend Project Transcendence
Stars |
23 | | Emarosa 131
Never
Damn song is too short, but man it's great anyways. Loved this album, definitely in my top 10 for the year. |
24 | | Fates Warning Theories of Flight
The Ghosts of Home
Another one of my favorite releases from last year. Song choice was hard, but settled on this one. |
25 | | Frank Ocean Blonde
Solo |
26 | | Gates Parallel Lives
House & Home
Another strong release from these guys as well. |
27 | | Ghost (SWE) Popestar
Square Hammer
EP was solid but this song stole the show. |
28 | | Gojira Magma
Pray |
29 | | Haken Affinity
The Endless Knot |
30 | | Hands Like Houses Dissonants
Perspectives
Liked this album a ton. Wasn't as imaginative as their previous releases, but still great nonetheless. |
31 | | The Hotelier Goodness
Goodness Pt. 2
Has yet to hit me as hard as the first two, but it's growing on me quite a bit. Fits right in in my vinyl collection. |
32 | | If These Trees Could Talk The Bones of a Dying World
The Giving Tree
Very possibly my favorite song from these guys so far. Album is on par with their first two. |
33 | | Jimmy Eat World Integrity Blues
The End Is Beautiful |
34 | | Kanye West The Life of Pablo
Wolves
Listened to this album almost every day during the summer. |
35 | | Kid Cudi Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin’
By Design
Still getting to this one too but this track keeps coming on and I really enjoy it, gives me a lot of hope for the rest of the album. |
36 | | Like Pacific Distant Like You Asked
Distant
One of the best pop-punk releases of the year, slightly under appreciated I feel. |
37 | | Mandroid Echostar Coral Throne
Violent Skies
Citadels was a fantastic album, but I felt this one fell just a little bit short. Still a lot of replay value to it though. |
38 | | Mat Kerekes Luna & The Wild Blue Everything
Direction
Really dug this album, Mat's voice works well with this. |
39 | | Normandie Inguz
Epilogue
Great track from a hit and miss album. |
40 | | pg.lost Versus
Deserter |
41 | | Plini Handmade Cities
Handmade Cities
Great instrumental prog release. Thanks to bgillesp for turning me on to this one. |
42 | | Polyenso Pure In The Plastic
Every Single Time |
43 | | Polyphia Renaissance
Crush
Probably in my top 5 for the year. Super catchy and a ton of replay value. |
44 | | Rarity I Couldn't Be Weaker
Absent |
45 | | Real Friends The Home Inside My Head
Colder Quicker
Wasn't a big fan of this one, but this track really stood out to me. Lots of Starting Line vibes from it. Mokena rules as well. |
46 | | Russian Circles Guidance
Mota |
47 | | Secret Space The Window Room
I've Come Around
Another to probably surface in my top 10. Excellent release and needs more attention. |
48 | | Solange A Seat At The Table
Cranes In The Sky
Getting to this one as well, but saw her perform on SNL last night (repeat) but thought it was real nice. |
49 | | The Starting Line Anyways
Luck |
50 | | Thank You Scientist Stranger Heads Prevail
Mr. Invisible
Song of the year as well as my album of the year. Just an all around beast of an album, I love every bit of it and can't get enough of it. Still sad it didn't even make the staff list, oh well haha |
51 | | Thrice To Be Everywhere Is to Be Nowhere
Stay With Me
Another song that keeps popping up on shuffle. I dig it a ton. |
52 | | Tonight Alive Limitless
To Be Free
Album was really a letdown considering I liked the singles. Doesn't touch The Other Side, but this song gives me real strong late 90's vibes, like it could be in the credits of a Disney Channel Original Movie from like 1999. |
53 | | Too Close to Touch Haven't Been Myself
Eiley
This album really has grown on me from first listen. |
54 | | Touche Amore Stage Four
Skyscraper |
55 | | Trash Boat Nothing I Write You Will Change What You've Been..
Strangers
One of my favorite songs of the year, plus Dan Campbell's feature is perfect. |
56 | | Tremonti Dust
Catching Fire
Tremonti's songwriting is as good as ever here. |
57 | | A Tribe Called Quest We got it from Here… Thank You 4 Your service
Lost Somebody |
58 | | Trophy Eyes Chemical Miracle
Breathe You In
Super solid album all around, and this track is so damn good. Easily in my top 10 songs of 2016. |
59 | | Yellowcard Yellowcard
Savior's Robes
A great album for their swan song. This track has got to stand out most for me. Something about it just kicks perfectly. |
60 | | Young the Giant Home Of The Strange
Silvertongue
It's no Mind Over Matter, but still great nonetheless. A lot of really good tracks here so this was a hard choice. |
61 | | Balance and Composure Light We Made
Postcard
Pretty much the perfect song. I still don't get tired of it. Album was great as well, not as good as it's predecessors but still a solid addition to their discography. |
62 | | Basement Promise Everything
Aquasun
Heard this track the day it came out and I immediately fell in love with it. |
