DoofusWainwright
02.14.17 | Where possible I've thought up a more famous 90s album with 'broadly the same appeal' (read: I know they're not identical sounding). |
zakalwe
02.14.17 | Get out of my CD collection!!! Hands off I say!!!!
lol 81. It'll always be yours doof. |
NorthernSkylark
02.14.17 | Wow. Amazing list doof! Don't know a lot of these. What should I check first? |
kascetcadettt
02.14.17 | just listened to 13 yesterday, it's mkay, gasoline man is cool |
DoofusWainwright
02.14.17 | Zak the album speaks truth, it predicted Trump
The quality of these albums varies from 3-5 so a right old mix...but they're all worth a spin and none of them seem to make anyone's Top 100 90s Lists |
DoofusWainwright
02.14.17 | Lark - maybe 1, 9 and 17?
Also, if you like the first two Tindersticks albums then 6 is essential |
Greem
02.14.17 | 65 and 88 agree |
NorthernSkylark
02.14.17 | I already know 1, so I'll check out smog |
NeroCorleone80
02.14.17 | nice list, some of these are better than what they're here instead of |
DoofusWainwright
02.14.17 | Yeah Nero, I wasn't saying they're all definitely stronger or weaker - more of an 'if you like this '90s usual suspect' then maybe try this album too'. Some are definitely stronger though agreed |
Shemson
02.14.17 | Great list, The Wildhearts always need more love |
wham49
02.14.17 | 46 and 85 were not overlooked, back then anyway |
DoofusWainwright
02.14.17 | Wham they're overlooked in terms of retrospective acclaim is where I'm coming from, the 'instead of' albums still make a lot of lists here...the albums on this list get minimal love |
altertide0
02.14.17 | 1990s: THE B'SIDES
some picks are good though, 65 is especially overlooked compared to the big fish. i wouldn't call 1, 29, 43 and 94 overlooked though, these are practically must-haves in their respective (and rather popular) genres. |
danielito19
02.14.17 | 97 is a good pick but if you want truly overlooked you should have gone with End Hits |
theBoneyKing
02.14.17 | Awesome list Doof. I've been meaning to get into a lot of these for a good while. |
JoylessBastard
02.14.17 | Great idea for a list. Lots to dig into. |
NeroCorleone80
02.14.17 | yeah End Hits is most underrated Fugazi |
FullOfSounds
02.14.17 | bookmarked |
DoofusWainwright
02.14.17 | End Hits I personally enjoy way less than Kill Taker which might just be my overall favourite Fugazi - but Argument, Repeater and Medicine definitely get more attention.
Alt - 1 is a little overlooked here, RHP and Slowdive make a lot of 'Best Of's but I can't remember seeing that album make many. It's a top 10 all time album for me and easily my favourite Low album so that's why it made the cut. I also wanted a few albums people would recognise on the list and even saying that I doubt many top 100 90s lists feature Biosphere or Tortoise.
'Hex' is probably the most Sput loved album on the list though, I see that.
Agreed 65 is an immense album, top 30 all time for me. |
Flugmorph
02.14.17 | sugar - Copper Blue tho |
Titan
02.14.17 | played the shit out of 75 back then....great album |
DoofusWainwright
02.14.17 | Flug - that one could easily have made the list |
WatchItExplode
02.14.17 | Props on Catherine Wheel and Black Sheep
Happy Days is fantastic front to back |
DoofusWainwright
02.14.17 | Thanks Boney, think you already could already guess which of these would be to your liking |
AnimalsAsSummit
02.14.17 | great list dude |
DoofusWainwright
02.14.17 | WIE - 'Heal' from that album is an incredible tune |
theBoneyKing
02.14.17 | Ones I'm already particularly interested in: 7 9 11 12 17 18 20 (that one in particular I really need to get on) 24 30 35 38 43 46 48 51 54 56 63 64 65 71 77 92 94 98. Any aside from those I should put on my radar?
Too. Much. Music. |
AlexKzillion
02.14.17 | 61 sounds kinda cool |
DoofusWainwright
02.14.17 | Boney - maybe the Mark Lanegan and the Thinking Fellers if you're feeling brave (it's very strange) |
theBoneyKing
02.14.17 | I've heard one Lanegan album and it's decent so I'll try to get to that at some point, that other one from the cover I was expecting an alt-country album, sounds strange but maybe if I'm feeling adventurous I'll try it. |
ArsMoriendi
02.15.17 | Brainiac! :D
This is why you're possibly my favorite Sput user who's over the age of 30. |
Dewinged
02.15.17 | Massive list Doof. Used to jam 81 so hard back in the day. I even got to see them live touring the following album. Bookmarking this hard. |
cylinder

danielcardoso
02.15.17 | The Breeders - Pod
Superchunk - No Pocky For Kitty
Smoke City - Flying Away
Sleater-Kinney - S/T
Figured i'd share in case you haven't heard yet man :D |
DoofusWainwright
02.15.17 | I've listened to the Breeders and Sleater but different albums
Other two bands haven't spun at all |
theBoneyKing
02.15.17 | One that could/should be here: PJ Harvey - Is This Desire?, definitely overlooked relative to her other 90s albums at the very least. |
danielcardoso
02.15.17 | Pod is essential dude, firmly better than Last Splash for me - which i assume is the album you did hear lol. Superchunk is some super catchy indie punk, dunno if you'd dig as much as me but it has that classic 90s feel so i can see you getting some enjoyment out of it. Smoke City is just some really exotic chill music with great sexy vocals lol, kind of hard to describe it for me but it's really good man you should check it out. |
DoofusWainwright
02.15.17 | Yeah 'Last Splash' is the one I know, I'll check the recs out bud |
theBoneyKing
02.15.17 | Superchunk are the band of the owners of Merge right? |
Artuma
02.15.17 | cool list tbh |
elliootsmeuth
02.15.17 | Tight list dude |
danielcardoso
02.15.17 | Yes they are Boney. Nice one Doof :] |
TwigTW
02.15.17 | I bought 32 and 62 as cut-outs a million years ago but never listened to them. I guess now is as good a time as any . . . The albums I know here are excellent (1, 15, 20, 24, 29, 37, 60, 65, 68, 69, 76, 77, 91). I'm going to start at the top and work my way through the ones I don't know . . . looks like a great list. |
DoofusWainwright
02.15.17 | Think you'll like a lot of these Twig |
TwigTW
02.15.17 | Already liking #2--next up, the infamous Sunhouse! |
theBoneyKing
02.15.17 | Twig hasn't heard Sunhouse yet? Egad!
2nd anniversary of Gavin Clark's death is tomorrow. |
TwigTW
02.15.17 | I thought Zak and Doofus were just were just promoting it for a laugh--didn't realize it was actually good, lol. |
theBoneyKing
02.15.17 | Wow, you've been missing out, it really is a lost classic. |
DoofusWainwright
02.15.17 | 2 is really good, can thank StarlessCore for rec'ing me that one.
Sunhouse was never supposed to be a Sput meme, it's genuinely a classic :D |
theBoneyKing
02.15.17 | I blame ALA for it becoming a meme. |
DoofusWainwright
02.15.17 | Yeah he arrived just as it achieved about 50 votes and made the charts - then it got a load of neg ratings |
TwigTW
02.15.17 | listening now--sounds great. It's too good to be overlooked. |
talktothehead
02.15.17 | Im genuinely sorry Doof. I dont think I gave Sunhouse ebough of a chance :* |
rabidfish
02.15.17 | gravediggaz is ace |
danielcardoso
02.15.17 | You did that quite a lot tbh ALA. |
MillionDead
02.15.17 | Awesome list. Special props for Prince Paul and Far. Gravediggaz and Failure, too. |
DoofusWainwright
02.15.17 | Thanks a Million |
TwigTW
02.16.17 | 9 and 53 are my surprise favorites so far, and of course Sunhouse. |
Trebor.
02.16.17 | Low and Gravediggaz hell yeah
will check more of this |
DoofusWainwright
02.16.17 | 9 and 53 are class acts Twig, dive into their respective discog without fear, all good stuff
Cheers Trebor |
StonedManatee
08.18.19 | I recognize a quarter of these albums.Yay, more music to listen to. |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
08.18.19 | nice list although i wouldn't really consider a lot of these "overlooked" unless you just mean on sput
gonna check a few i havent heard, also a few long forgotten albums to revisit |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
08.18.19 | would love if you genre tagged this bitch tho, with the ones that you said "here in place of x" you can kind of infer but it would be helpful regardless |
Sinternet
08.18.19 | still not sure how bedhead replaces slint tbqh |
