05.30.17 | Great show |
kris.
05.30.17 | i haven't seen this past weekend's episode but yea great great show |
henryChinaski
05.30.17 | Been thinking about watching this. Why does it end after only three seasons tho? |
kris.
05.30.17 | crazy low viewership unfortunately but HBO is letting them finish the story instead of outright cancelling it |
JeetJeet
05.30.17 | @henry yep pretty much what Kris said. The good side to it ending after 3 seasons is that it never drags on. Every episode feels important. You should check it out asap. S1 is great and s2 is insanely good. |
JeetJeet
05.30.17 | @Kris the most recent episode rivals the International Assassin episode, which was a classic. Its sooooo good. |
Gnodab
05.30.17 | i watched the first 2 seasons and i'm done, it tries to be more than it really is and of course like in so many shows, barely anyone acts like a normal human being |
Gameofmetal
05.30.17 | watched the first season but it was a little mixed for me. really great concept and good characters but it asked so many questions without giving enough answers. have heard a lot of good things about htis last season so ill be catching up at some point |
JeetJeet
05.30.17 | @Game The second season is such a huge improvement over the first, and the plot gets soooo good. This 3rd season is a masterpiece. |
JeetJeet
05.30.17 | βof course like in so many shows, barely anyone acts like a normal human being" lol the whole point of the show is to show how far removed these people are from normalcy. It would be boring as fuck if they acted like βnormal human beings" |
brainmelter
05.30.17 | I need to see this. have you seen big little lies? it's really good tbqh |
JeetJeet
05.30.17 | @brain I started the pilot and never got finished with the season. I'm planning on diving into that show sometime this weekend or next. HBO has so many heaters on their network. I still gotta finish Twin Peaks too goddamn. |
Gameofmetal
05.30.17 | big little lies is excellent |
Thane
05.30.17 | started watching a few days ago and i'm on s3 e1 now. didn't watch it when it started because most reviews etc were like ehhh, but heard so much good stuff about it lately i had to check it. not disappointed so far, looking forward to s3 |
JeetJeet
05.30.17 | @Thane you're in for a treat cause this season is incredible so far. Eps 4-7 have been nothing short of genius. |
artiswar
05.30.17 | best show on tv, still can't believe this is created by that Lost guy... talk about learning from your mistakes. show is fucking genius |
Thane
05.30.17 | sweet. i'm watching like 6 shows now, so much good stuff on |
tragic.details
05.30.17 | It's such a good fucking show, it's a shame more people aren't watching it. I just watched the most recent episode and was floored they managed to make an episode as good, if not better, than International Assassin. This season has been nothing short of genius tho |
JeetJeet
05.30.17 | @ArtisWar Yep. This show is everything that Lost SHOULD have been.
@Tragic. That last episode had me in shambles. I can't remember the last time I was so glued to my TV. The penis scanner had me dying lol. |
artiswar
05.30.17 | International Assassin was the show-defining episode for me, literally everything that Lost should have been. That ep was a mindfuck and somehow managed to make me tear up for the shittiest character in the show. Don't worry, low viewer-ship is irrelevant because the show has been planning on ending with this season for a while, so just strap in guys |
LeftyMcRighty
05.30.17 | GREAT FUKKIN' SHOW!
@ Jeet & Henry: It is Damon Lindelof's first show since LOST and parallels LOST in a lot of ways. Lindelof was reportedly so disillusioned at having LOST usurped by JJ Abrams and NBC, and it dragging out and ending the way it did, that he decided Leftovers would have a defined end point. Although, if you've been following, it may or may not have a clear resolution...
I haven't had a chance to watch the last episode since I was out of town but am super psyched to catch up!
Also: Your list should have been the different opening credits songs for each episode this season.... IMO |
LeftyMcRighty
05.30.17 | @ BrainMelter: I watched "Big Little Lies". I didn't think I would like it (my wife wanted to watch it) but it was a really good show. I kinda figured out the end before it happened (just not exactly who did it) but a great show for sure! |
Nocturtle
05.30.17 | great show sad its coming to an end but what a ride its been |
artiswar
05.30.17 | @LeftyMcRighty
the dragging out you're talking about only affected the first half of S3, that is in no way shape or form an excuse for the terrible decisions the show made 3 years after the end date was decided |
Faraudo
05.30.17 | Haven't watched any S3 episodes, but S2's International Assassin is still one of my favorite TV episodes ever. |
LeftyMcRighty
05.30.17 | It's the 3 years that I'm talking about! haha! |
artiswar
05.30.17 | ok but Lost had an end date like halfway through S3 if I remember correctly... just seemed like you inferred that the last season was balls because the writers didn't know if they were going for 1 more season or 6, which was not at all the case lol |
LeftyMcRighty
05.30.17 | No, not at all. I just felt like it probably condensed into @3-4 seasons. I watched it all the way through (and in the days before binge watching) and loved it, overall, but felt like it went on too long and had a disappointing ending. |
LeftyMcRighty
05.30.17 | *probably could have been* |
MeatSalad
05.30.17 | Might check it out, I'm almost done with The Wire and I'll need something to fill the void while waiting for GoT and Mr Robot. |
literallyzach
05.30.17 | i need to watch this past week's episode but what a whirlwind this season has been so far. glad other people are appreciating this |
dbizzles
05.30.17 | I've never even heard of it and I watch Silicon Valley, Westworld, Game of Thrones, all sorts of HBO shows. I've never even seen them promote it. |
literallyzach
05.30.17 | yeah they dropped a lot of promotion for it during the second season when it really took its most artistic turn. the first season is pretty accessible but the more abstract they got the less hbo tried to get people to watch it. good on them for keeping it around long enough to make a real statement tho |
Faraudo
05.30.17 | I would probably be waiting for Mr. Robot too if season 2 wasn't a huge, steaming pile of garbage. |
artiswar
05.30.17 | I stopped after S1 which was a steaming pile of garbage. Good to know the show retained consistency. |
JeetJeet
05.30.17 | @Meat if you dig Mr Robot then you'll dig this I'm sure. The first season is very dark, but its still very good and has some pretty powerful moments. S2 however steps up immensely and is amazing. And s3 is shaping up to be a classic.
@Lefty Damn your list idea is genius lol. The recent ep is soooo good you'll want to watch it again. Could be my favorite one of the whole series. I've been coming up with theories ever since this show started and all of them have been dashed cause of how wild and unpredictable its been. |
JeetJeet
05.30.17 | @Faraudo mannnn I loved s2 of Mr Robot. It was so well-written IMO and had this sense of dread that I really liked. I kinda saw the twist coming but still thought it was dope. |
Riviere
05.31.17 | Watched the first two episodes then tapped out. I don't have much of a tolerance for melodrama. |
Faraudo
05.31.17 | @Jeet (MR ROBOT SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS AHEAD) Sorry my dude, I thought it was way too convoluted (Not the "I don't understand a thing" type of convoluted) and think that the plot barely moved. It takes the show 11 episodes to explain last season's cliffhanger. And my biggest gripe: the sitcom episode (wich I thought it was brilliant upon first viewing) gets practically nullified just because of the prison twist at the half of the season. It has a brilliant scene wich is the Zero-Sum chess game between Mr. Robot and Elliot, and Angela's character developed on very interesting ways. But other than that, I really, really disliked the season, mainly because of it's plotting errors and slow ass pacing (And I absolutely love slow pace when it's well used). Season 1 is still GOAT, tho. |
literallyzach
05.31.17 | got too high and fell asleep during last week's episode so im going to have to try and watch it again lmao |
JeetJeet
06.01.17 | @Zach lol I was cooked when I tuned in and it blew my mind how good it was. I still have no clue how this ends but I'm not ready to see it end. Shows like this don't come around that often. |
artiswar
06.02.17 | this show you guys... I'm catching up on the last episode and 15 minutes in I need a break to lay in the fetal position. |
JeetJeet
06.02.17 | Its incredible right? I had to replay it a second time. The boat orgy ep was incredible too. |
SteakByrnes
06.02.17 | 5 tho |
JeetJeet
06.02.17 | #5 is my shit boi I been blasting it all week |
SteakByrnes
06.02.17 | I can't wait for their new album, I've liked every single so far, especially the last one |
artiswar
06.02.17 | I've been a bit hot and cold this season, but that was incredible. I can't believe there's only one episode left! I'm equal parts hyped and terrified |
JeetJeet
06.02.17 | Yea I don't really want it to end. I'm gonna be in shambles when it does. This show put me thru the ringer emotionally and I loved every second. |
CygnusX1
06.02.17 | I started watching this show because I thought the premise sounded interesting. I didn't think I was going to watch one of the greatest shows on TV. Can't wait to see how it all ends |
JeetJeet
06.02.17 | Yea I went into this show blind and didn't expect it to grab me by the feels the way it did. It needs to get some awards during Emmy season or I will flip shit. |
artiswar
06.02.17 | After this I'm watching anything Lindelof makes. Never thought I would say that pre-2015... |
JeetJeet
06.05.17 | Oh fuck. That finale was flawless. Hope everyone enjoyed it. This show has been nothing short of insanity, and The Book Of Nora is the perfect way to end it IMO. I'm gonna miss this show and the way it made me feel after every ep. Shoutout to Lindelof for blessing us. |
Nocturtle
06.05.17 | Yeah that was a great way to end the show
I'm gonna miss this show and the way it made me feel after every ep.[2] |
artiswar
06.05.17 | I'm slightly torn between thinking the finale was exactly what it needed to be and being slightly disappointed. It's going to take some time to digest... I did think finding out what happened to the departed was perfect thematically. But looking back I think there was some clumsy course correction this season as well as some misuse of characters. For example, they spent a lot of time at the end of S2 to set up Meg as a formidable villain yet she dies in her first scene... Anyway, it was a near-perfect show and if you're jonesing for more, I highly recommend you watch Six Feet Under. |
LeftyMcRighty
06.05.17 | I was not sure how they were going to pull it together for the first half of the episode last night, then they managed to squeeze the whole summation up with Nora's little speech. I loved the show. I did, however, really want to root for Nora as a character but, in the end, I disliked her. She was just such a snarky bitch at every opportunity. |
artiswar
06.05.17 | I didn't really like her either but her character felt very real to me and I found it hard to judge her. And Carrie Coon was so amazing... She reminds me a lot of Lena Heady, I could totally see her playing Sarah Connor. |
JeetJeet
06.06.17 | Yea Nora has her faults but she's not the worst. I can forgive her bitchiness because she's such a compelling character. That finale had me locked in the moment I heard the theme song from s2. I wasn't expecting such a nice touching ending. I expected some sort of tragedy. Instead they gave me closure. |
tom79
06.16.17 | Just finished the series finale....fuck....what an ending. What a show. |
JeetJeet
06.16.17 | Agreed. That scene of Nora walking around the dance looking for Kevin had me glued to my screen. I can't think of too many shows that top what this one did for me. I already miss seeing it on my screen on Sunday. |
Faraudo
06.25.17 | I just watched the finale as well, and I need to talk about it because wow. |
JeetJeet
06.25.17 | It was fuckin beautiful man. I really didn't expect to see such a peaceful ending. And Matt's talk with Nora before she goes into the machine...damn near made me shed tears. |
Faraudo
06.25.17 | Yeah, it's probably one of my favorite finales ever. But i'm still thinking about Nora's story of what happened on the "other side." I mean, it could be true, and that would answer a lot of questions about the show itself and it's mythology, but it could also be a made-up story that Nora came up with just to justify her "dissapearance" and maybe, she just stayed the whole time as that sort of hermit we saw on the episode. Dunno man. And yeah, Matt and Nora's scene was so moving and well written. |
JeetJeet
06.25.17 | Nora was bullshitting with that story but it spoke volumes about her journey. She finally found something to help her move on IMO. Its so perfect how Kevin had an entire spiritual journey and is now sitting across from Nora, who's just gone through her own journey as well and is listening to her story. And by the time she's done he accepts it all just to be able to be with the one person who could understand what he went through. They both had their stories. The book of Kevin and the book of Nora, but in the end all that matters is that these two characters who've spent the whole time grieving and trying to make sense of it all are past the grief and are looking towards the future. And after Kevin accepts Nora's truth, the birds come back. What a cozy fuckin ending.
Another thing. Laurie talking to Nora on the phone with what I'm assuming to be Jill's kid in her lap is such a perfect wrap up for her character. In fact every character's story was wrapped up beautifully IMO. |
artiswar
06.25.17 | On first watch I took Nora's story literally but I guess it being bullshit makes way more sense. The Laurie thing on the other hand really bothered me. She was supposed to be dead, I felt emotionally manipulated. |
JeetJeet
06.25.17 | Laurie dying after that powerful phone call with Tom and Jill on the boat would have left me in shambles tbh. I smiled when Kevin mentioned that Jill had a baby, and then that's when I realized that's who Laurie was holding. She's a grandmother now, happy, and still out there helping Nora. It finally felt like everyone was a family. Like everything was right. |
artiswar
06.25.17 | How did it not leave you in shambles? There was no other way to interpret that scene-- Laurie committed suicide.
Some inside baseball, Tom Perrotta is the realist in the writer's room while Lindelof is the one largely providing the show with the weird ephemeral supernatural shit. And while their push-and-pull conflict while writing this show has been largely one of the major reasons for it's success and admirable artistic integrity, this is a glaring example of where that kind of relationship between writers can go really wrong. Perrotta wrote that Laurie killed herself, while Lidelof directly contradicted him with his 'final say' in the finale. I really hated it personally but glad it worked for you.
It's not even that I needed Laurie to die, it's just... pick a direction and give it some conviction. Don't waffle like that. It's bad writing and manipulative of the audience. |
Faraudo
06.26.17 | So, we pretty much know that Kevin is the only one who's been able to communicate with the dead/the ones who left, right? Like, Kevin really did had a "superpower." |
Rowan5215
06.27.17 | just caught up with this show and damn it was superb. despite a slight misstep with ep 3 season 3 was fucking phenomenal throughout and s2 was superb as well
@faraudo, this show basically lets you pick whether you believe in the other world or not and gives an equally incredible ride in both choices. if you believe it then Kevin's purpose was always to destroy the afterlife hotel world he visited, and the voices Sr. heard, Patti's ghost in S2, and Kevin's crazy ass hallucinations were all always in service of getting him to the point where he would willingly die in our world to accomplish his purpose, and kill his shadow self at the same time. of course he could have just hallucinated that whole thing and there never was a flood and he just had a heart condition. you also get to choose whether you believe Nora was telling the truth or lying in that beautiful final monologue - I chose to believe because that's the ending I wanted and because I like the show more when it dealt with the hefty questions of what was on the other side, but maybe she never went to the other side and chose to lie because "it's a better story" |
JeetJeet
06.27.17 | @Rowan Spot on. I love both interpretations of that ending dialogue. I don't even think I can pick a favorite episode for this season because of how great each one has been. Although after rewatching G'day Melbourne I gotta say...that was a masterpiece. I've had Take Me On burned into my brain ever since seeing it. |
Rowan5215
06.28.17 | Yeah lmao what a way to take the catchiest song of all time and make it completely tragic. That ending shot of the water dripping off Nora's face will haunt me till the end of my days
The Laurie solo episode was pretty fucking incredible too, and I despised that character at the beginning of the show's run. When Jill and Tommy call her before she's about to dive into the water ugghhghg |
Faraudo
06.28.17 | @Rowan Well, I do think that Kevin was indeed "inmortal" because shit like the lake from Miracle cracking just to avoid Kevin's death could possibly make a strong case regarding the supernatural elements on the show. Also, John pretty much shot him in the chest so, I choose to believe in Kevin's powers. Mainly because there's plenty of "evidence" throught the show, but he's kinda crazy so... In the end who knows? Also yeah, that final monologue scene with Nora was a thing of beauty, an acting/writing/directing masterclass. But on that end, I do think that she's lying, just because she needed to be isolated/alone. |
