2017 Top 10
what a time to be alive. cheers |
1 | | Sufjan Stevens Carrie and Lowell Live
Hell yes. I really enjoyed how the arrangements on this kind of meld the influence of his electronic stuff. |
2 | | The National Sleep Well Beast
I listened to this album a lot, like everything they've done, but "Carin at the Liquor Store" is really the standout here for me. I associate this album with tripping on acid, along with Science Fiction. Fantastic shit. |
3 | | Brand New Science Fiction
See above. This album made me listen to Brand New heavily again for the first time since I was 13 when Daisy came out. |
4 | | Slowdive Slowdive
The release of this album reminded me of the existence of this band and I finally listened to Souvlaki and their -debut. Excellent stoney music. |
5 | | Stevens / Dessner / Muhly / McAlister Planetarium
This album somewhat reminds me of Age of Adz except it's more cosmic sounding and infinitely more listenable. I almost can't stomach listening to Adz anymore in comparison. The music videos for this shit are amazing when you're tripping. |
6 | | Hot Water Music Light it Up
Big step up from Exister, their best release in 15 years. Great hard rock album. |
7 | | SOJA Poetry In Motion
I'm literally the only person to have rated this album on this site. They're a pretty decent reggae band, but the userbase here doesn't have all that many stoners, apparently. |
8 | | 311 Mosaic
Great return to form if you liked 311 to begin with. Like Hot Water Music, this was their best album in over a decade, so props. |
9 | | The Menzingers After the Party
This should be ranked higher, but I'm already moving on from this band a little bit. A step up from Rented World, and even my mom likes "Lookers." |
10 | | The Mountain Goats Goths
This entire album almost reminds me of "Nightclub Jitters" by the Replacements, I really enjoy that jazzy lounge vibe. Nice to hear something different and awesome from Darnielle. |
