DoofusWainwright
04.20.18 | Why does my taste take a nosedive when it gets hot? A lot of nostalgia and personal associations so, ok, some of these will seem strange picks. |
DoofusWainwright
04.20.18 | Also put Jamie T next to Pink Floyd intentionally as I heard it had never been done on a Sput list |
butcherboy
04.20.18 | feature in 3, 2, 1?
some amazing stuff here, and some stuff for me to check, Doof old pal.. |
AsleepInTheBack
04.20.18 | I find it fascinating how the entire vibe of a record can change depending on the weather. Never considered The Bends or XO summer listens, but yeah, they work |
DoofusWainwright
04.20.18 | butch a lot of this is not your thing...and that's it, I have to admit some of this falls in or near the 'guilty pleasure' zone. These are the sort of albums I reach for to listen to loud on a hot day, some primarily out of nostalgia if I'm honest.
Asleep - that's it, it might just be that's when I bought or got in to the album...I would say those two are def the most 'summer' sort of albums by the artists in question though.
'Boxer' by The National is another - not really a summer album, but that's when I got into it first. |
AlexKzillion
04.20.18 | 36 Chambers a hot weather album???????
I like only listen to it when I'm shoveling snow lmao |
theBoneyKing
04.20.18 | Whoa a Doof and a Boney list on the same day?? And a class list at that. |
DoofusWainwright
04.20.18 | For me most hip hop is hot weather, I remember one family holiday in Spain where me and my brother played 90% Wu-Tang for three weeks :D |
DoofusWainwright
04.20.18 | Boney we're just having some unexpected unseasonal hot weather and I just noticed I instantly started craving different music the last two days - list was born there and then |
polyrhythm
04.20.18 | How tf is Laughing Stock hot weather music |
DoofusWainwright
04.20.18 | New Grass...burnin! burnin! BURNIN! |
Egarran
04.20.18 | Bro your lists are out of control, everyone knows that. |
TheLongShot
04.20.18 | 12 is like the definition of a summer album to me bc that’s when I first got into it, lots of elite choices here overall as well |
DoofusWainwright
04.20.18 | Eg there is no logic what can I say
LongShot - 12 is a bit underrated, recently got really into it again after maybe five years of forgetting about it |
theBoneyKing
04.20.18 | Country for me is the best hot weather music. Unforutnately here we’ve had unseasonably cool weather so far but I’m sure that’ll change soon. |
DoofusWainwright
04.20.18 | Country is great in the heat, some of the best summer night music too - I wanted to put up a mix here, if I'd got rid of the one artist rule there'd prob be three Wilco album, three Richmond Fontaine albums, three Will Oldham albums, three Sparklehorse albums, etc |
theBoneyKing
04.20.18 | Thanks for the monthly reminder that I desperately need to check out Siamese Dream, will bump it up in my queue and finally get to it soon. A good few other albums I need to hear here too. |
Papa Universe
04.20.18 | some goodie goods on here, bub |
DoofusWainwright
04.20.18 | Siamese is essential, definitely one of the ultimate summer albums - with a guitar sound that should find favour with any MBV fan ;D
Uni, glad you dig, this is a right ol' mess of a list |
Papa Universe
04.20.18 | there's charm in chaos too |
Calc
04.20.18 | I've always thought Bibio's Silver Wilkinson was late summer translated into music |
Doctuses
04.20.18 | hey where the FUCK is JANE DOE AND COLORS AND SHIT |
BigHans
04.20.18 | Monster Mega propos for 80. I can get behind this list. |
Doctuses
04.20.18 | that was a meta commentary on sputs love fer doze two albums |
BigHans
04.20.18 | And just noticed 63. My 4th favorite album of all time |
Zeuzo
04.20.18 | In Rainbows> The Bends for hot weather |
DoofusWainwright
04.20.18 | Bends will always be the only real Radiohead summer jam cos alt rock |
NorthernSkylark
04.20.18 | sweet list. wolfgang amadeus phoenix tho |
DoofusWainwright
04.20.18 | that nearly went up lark, even though I'm a believer its sorta the same two songs repeated over and over |
ArsMoriendi
04.20.18 | What even is hot weather when it's 37 Fahrenheit at the end of April in Buffalo. :(
(2.8 Celsius for you non-Americans.) |
Egarran
04.20.18 | There aren't even leaves on the trees yet, but we skipped spring here in Denmark and went directly to summer. Hottest April since 1963. |
JustJoe.
04.20.18 | I was hoping for 37 when I saw this list.
Good stuff all around, Doof. |
Dylan620
04.20.18 | Would appreciate if you could please send some of that warmth Massachusetts' way, it frickin' snowed yesterday. Great list btw - 6, 13, 38, 44, and 52 are up there on my list of summertime greats (plus 3, 4, 7, 23, and 84 which are classics for me any time of year. Not gonna lie though, I've never seen 60 as a summer album and 91 screams winter to my ears)
"Why does my taste take a nosedive when it gets hot?"
Pretty sure this is normal, half my top summer albums you've either rated or likely would rate in the 0.5-2 range |
UpwardSpiral
04.20.18 | you're living all over me is amazing yes |
LeftyMcRighty
04.20.18 | Some Excellent, excellent selections. Some great nostalgic 90s gems in there and a few I need to check out. |
tommygun
04.21.18 | > hot weather
> england
pick one |
NorthernSkylark
04.21.18 | eggaran - where do you live in denmark? the beeches are out here as of yesterday ! |
Sunnyvale
04.21.18 | Great list man. Yo La Tengo is a quintessential summer band for me, and Painful especially fits the warm weather vibe. |
DoofusWainwright
04.21.18 | Thanks people, been spinning a couple of albums from here today - 19 is still a jam and a half |
TheSpaceMan
04.21.18 | some weird choices, like dark side and blue lines? idk they dont make me picture sweltering heat. list still beats a "winter jams" list with aggaloch and 500 black metal albums |
JustJoe.
04.21.18 | You got beef with "Pale Folklore"?
*tsk tsk* |
DoofusWainwright
04.21.18 | ‘Dark Side’ was sort of a joke but the first three/four tunes make me picture a summers day strolling around a patch of ground in your home town
‘Blue Lines’ is a summer album for me where ‘Mezzanine’ is def not. Most spliffing music I see as hot weather music (reggae, dub, etc) |
TheSpaceMan
04.21.18 | okay very fair points, and most of the other picks i'd back
@justjoe not a fan sorry |
JustJoe.
04.21.18 | That's my jam, SpaceMan! Makes me feel lupine & sprightly & whatnot.
Also, what's Doof gotta do to get a feature around here? |
MrHarrison
09.22.18 | Totes get most of these (69 in particular is a great call), but Dark Side Of The Moon? Basically all Floyd, except maybe Piper and to some extent Ummagumma, are very wintry albums to me. I pretty much can't listen to Pink Floyd in the summer at all. |
Relinquished
09.22.18 | I’d need speed in hot weather tbh, don’t wanna slog behind depressive shit when the sun’s so oppressive |
