| My personal top 10 favorite albums of all time-ish
Just what the list name says. These are the albums/pieces of music that I’ve listened to the most, and therefore have always had the largest effect on my musical tastes and appreciations. Honorable mention goes to Miles Davis, as he has WAAAAY too many good albums to pick just one for this list. | 10 | | Igor Stravinsky Le Sacre du Printemps
The classical genre will always be my musical first love, so to speak, as this is the type of music I grew up with for the better portion of my life. Le Sacre du Printemps was the piece of music that proved to me that atonal music could work as an expression of art, and really functions on an emotional level. | 9 | | Kendrick Lamar To Pimp a Butterfly
As I’ve gotten older, I’ve begun to enjoy rap/hip-hop a bit more than I used to, and extra points go to those who can rap about socially conscious issues instead of the usual stuff like clubs, drugs, women and cars. Enter this album. ‘Nuff said. | 8 | | Slipknot Iowa
This is my go-to album when I’m really angry/depressed and I need a way to vent it out. A stone-cold classic, front to back. | 7 | | Pink Floyd The Wall
I enjoy prog rock/metal, and this is my favorite album from this band, even more so than “Dark Side Of The Moon”, I think because some days I can really identify with the themes of alienation and isolation present in this album. Hey, life ain’t sunshine and rainbows, you know? | 6 | | Mastodon Crack the Skye
I like all of Mastodon’s albums because the majority of their output reminds me of the classic rock I used to listen to with my dad, and this album is Mastodon probably at their most adventurous and daring. | 5 | | Boris Pink
It’s Boris. What more can one say about this monolithic album other than “TURN IT UP!!!” | 4 | | The Who Who's Next
My favorite album from my favorite classic rock band. Fantastic way to open and close an album. | 3 | | John Coltrane My Favorite Things
Honestly, it was a tie between this, Big Steps and Blue Train. Several years ago I gained a re-appreciation for jazz and particularly for Coltrane and Miles Davis, and the titular track here is exquisite. | 2 | | Boom Boom Satellites To The Loveless
This is my favorite album to listen to when I need to relax and drain all my negative feelings away. Positively sublime. | 1 | | Dir En Grey Uroboros
Probably the only no-brainer on my list. I can’t explain how or why, but this album resonates with me on an emotional level. | |
