| Matisyahu, Oogee Wawa
Saw live Matisyahu tonight on Long Island, NY with a reggae band called Oogee Wawa opening for him. It was kind of a weird show -- lots of sudden ends to songs, and at the end of the night, the band and him just walked off the stage without saying a word, and even the venue didn't seem sure if it was over or not. | 1 | | Matisyahu Undercurrent
He played several tracks from this, his newest album. | 2 | | Matisyahu Akeda
Another weird thing was that in the middle of a cover of Marley's "No Woman No Cry", he invited some guy up on the stage who he'd obviously never met, presumably at the venue's request. Then he gave the guy the mic while the band kept playing behind him, and the guy proposed to his girlfriend. Then they pulled her up on the stage, and he did the formal one knee thing. She obviously accepted, because she ran into his arms and gave him a big kiss. Then Matisyahu finished the song while they stayed onstage and danced to it. Finally, the guy picked his girl up and carried her backstage into the wings. | 3 | | Oogee Wawa More Sand Than Money
These guys were pretty good. Godawful name for a band, though. They only let them play for 30 minutes. Then they waited 45 minutes before Matisyahu and his band took the stage, which was a waste. They had their stuff set up in front of Matisyahu's band, so they only had to quick-drag their stuff off the stage, they didn't need to set anything else up for Matisyahu. They should have let these guys play for at least another 10 minutes or so. | |
