04.20.19 | Looking for summer good summer music, as well as music that makes me wish I was actually angsty. |

04.20.19 | https://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/78868/Busted-Half-Way-There/ I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this album |

04.21.19 | Oops. Weird typed Freudian slip. Meant “some good summer music”, but I guess you can never have too much summer. |
naughtcturnal
04.21.19 | Not sure if the last 2 Jeff Rosenstock records (especially Worry) exactly fit on here but they are def worth a listen |
Viriathus
04.21.19 | Lifetime - Jerseys Best Dancers
Slick Shoes - Far From Nowhere
Bayside - The Walking Wounded
The Get Up Kids - Four Minute Mile
Descendants - Milo Goes To College |
dmathias52
04.21.19 | I somehow have never listened to the Jeff Rosenstock records and I need to change that!
And those are all new to me @SlicePaperMoog, so they’re perfect! I’ve obviously heard of Bayside and the Get Up Kids but never given them more than a cursory listen. |
SlothcoreSam

SlothcoreSam
04.21.19 | If you liked mom jeans, Graduating Life has the same singer ( Bart Star), but it is angstier and more passionate and just fucking better.
So start there. |
Ecnalzen
04.21.19 | Well, most of the stuff I like in the pop punk world is from the 2000s, but here are some gems I have found in the last few years that you don't have rated:
Like Pacific - In Spite of Me
No Trigger - Adult Braces
Belvedere - Revenge of the Fifth
For some slightly older stuff:
Slick Shoes - Far From Nowhere [2]
Autopilot Off - Make A Sound
Midtown - Forget What You Know
A Wilhelm Scream - Career Suicide
Rufio - MCMLXXXV |
Viriathus
04.21.19 | Still needa give Autopilot Off a full listen. Actually heard a few tracks from em.
Dunno if id call Career Suicide Pop Punk but its a classic nonetheless |
onionbubs
04.21.19 | most of the best shit has been rec'd already besides alkaline trio who's my favorite band fucking ever so them 10000% spin their album last year |
Hendoi
04.21.19 | bomb the music industry - vacation
polar bear club never made a consistent record but I think they're still worth checking out. They've written a handful of catchy pop/punk songs throughout their career (Convinced I'm Wrong, Upstate Mosquito & Pawner)
|
Ecnalzen
04.21.19 | I think Wilhelm has a little bit in em. It's there on some albums, but not really their prominent sound. Kinda like Strung Out.
If you like Slick Shoes, Moog, I think you'd dig Autopilot Off. Make A Sound and Far From Nowhere are two of my favorite pop/punk albums in general.
Alkaline Trio is a band I have been meaning to listen to more of. I only have Maybe I'll Catch Fire from them. |
Viriathus
04.21.19 | Alkaline Trio are ace though I think they were at their best with their late 90s stuff when they were Melodic Punk and sounded more like Hot Water Music, Leatherface, Jawbreaker etc. The best of their Pop Punk stuff imo is Good Mourning though really its hard to go wrong with Alkaline Trio even This Addiction and Agony & Irony arent that bad despite being their weakest efforts by a mile.
I wouldnt call Strung Out Pop Punk either aside from maybe a handful of tracks. But I guess Pop Punk is like Emo in the sense that literally nobody can agree on what qualifies as it. |
Ecnalzen
04.21.19 | Hell, listen to Strung Out, too, while you are at it. They are amazing. Exile in Oblivion has a chunk of pop punk-ish songs on it. |
TheMightyScoop
04.21.19 | I hate pop punk but I can stand the gnarwolves s/t record. surprised no one rec'd that yet |
Ecnalzen
04.21.19 | That's fair, Moog. There's a line between punk and pop punk that moves around depending on the person. A lot of times, if people hear catchy and upbeat with distortion, they just immediately go pop punk.
A lot of the stuff I like, I think is more of a blend of the two than just one or the other.
Classic Crime and Anberlin get lumped into pop punk, but I have never thought of either of them as in the genre, but that's just me. |
DDDeftoneDDD
04.21.19 | De Staat
Idles
Frank Carter and the Ratlesnakes |
Viriathus
04.21.19 | Yeah Anberlin are more like poppy Alt Rock
Gnarwolves are meh. Probably one of the few better of the 2010s Warped Tour Lifetime clones but nothing id write home about. |
DDDeftoneDDD
04.21.19 | Weezer? |
Viriathus
04.21.19 | Well I guess some of their stuff is Pop Punk but their better albums are Power Pop. |
DDDeftoneDDD
04.21.19 | Lol there s infinite genres nowdays.
But hey De Staat is the poppiest it can get for a post punk band |
dmathias52
04.21.19 | Holy cow, a whole here to check out! And a ton of bands I’ve just straight up never heard before.
I guess my definition of pop punk is heavier music with pop sensibilities? Which is also super generic. Honestly basically anything with a big chorus has me hooked. |
Point1
04.21.19 | all pop punk after The Greatest Generation except for rosenstock and hotelier is a waste of time |

Point1
04.22.19 | sorry you're right
I forgot pup.
After the Party is super boring compared to their old stuff. Who's the best pop punk bad with their best album ever? |
dmathias52
04.22.19 | Yooo everyone should check out the new Kayak Jones. Found it like minutes after making this list and it’s now not only my favorite pop punk of the year, but right next to Copeland for my favorite album of the year period. I just reviewed it if people want more info, but these guys deserve the attention. |
TheMightyScoop
04.22.19 | "such gold" is a pretty heavy pop punk band. better than most of the shite out there in this horrible genre |
dmp3131
04.22.19 | Grayscale - Adornment
Between You & Me - Everything Is Temporary |
Asdfp277
04.22.19 | mariah carey |

04.22.19 | ooo, I like Such Gold. Reminds me of some No Trigger, Belvedere, and Crime in Stereo. Just gonna go ahead and put them in the list of stuff to listen more of. |
Viriathus
04.22.19 | Shit Crime In Stereo are a band I havent even thought about in yeaaars.
Needa fuckin give em a good revisit sometime soon. |
Ecnalzen
04.22.19 | I like Troubled Stateside a lot from Crime in Stereo. Want to check out some more of them at some point, too. |

04.23.19 | It was better than Cody at least. Really miss the sound of their first two albums but I guess they had to move on from that for better or worse. |
Viriathus
04.23.19 | Joyce Manor are overrated. Their first and third albums are fine but nothing remarkable. Everything else theyve done is meh. |
