06.30.19 | for Egarran:
The Rising of the Dark Lord, last track off Mythical & Magical from Pagan Altar
this track is the beautiful magnus opus of an old school traditional doom metal band. egarran has epicus doomicus metallicus 5'd yet hasn't anything from Pagan Altar rated so it's possible these guys have slipped by him somehow
please enjoy dude!

07.01.19 | For Garas:
I was looking for a nature BM song that wasn't 10 minutes long, and lo and fucking behold, Enisum delivers. This song does everything in under 4 minuites.
Enisum - Snow Storm.

07.01.19 | we might not be so different. I would imagine we got called a fag about the same amount of times. |
SlothcoreSam
07.01.19 | 1. Can't Cheat Karma. 4.4, this is great Pappy, i used to listened to the Zounds and other anarcho-punk bands fleetingly back in the day. I need to revisit this scene and delve deeper. The song itself is a catchy lil number, the start sounds a lot like what Fontaines D.C are currently doing, then morphs into bouncy pre-post-hardcore-punk. Vocals are excellent, and lyrics are simple yet meaningful. Zounds seem more accessible than other anarcho bands, having melodic pop sensibilities throughout their tracks, and is evident here with that jangly guitar line.
July is off to a good start. |
Minushuman24
07.01.19 | Oh this is really nerve-wracking |
Minushuman24
07.01.19 | hmmm I originally was gonna try to find a post-punk song for papa, but I think I'll just go for Sam.

07.01.19 | Dammit I literally just rec'd something to Ars specifically |
SlothcoreSam
07.01.19 | Is that a personal attack Minus? ;)
Looking forward to the track, i know I've listened to these guys before, but as you can see from my extensive punk ratings, and since i only joined in January, I'm still playing catch up on checking in all the albums I've listened to. Will have to revisit his one, thanks. |
Egarran
07.01.19 | Can't Cheat Karma - If I got recd something like this, I would be conflicted and take my life up to re-evalutaion. I suspect this may be a theme for these songs. Song’s ok. I don’t get this style at all. 2.5/5
Fatal Sisters Opened Umbrella - Starts out nice, but then nothing really happens. For 12 minutes. 2.9/5
The Rising of the Dark Lord - Wow, how the hell is this from 2006? They do the early 80’s Sabbath worship really well. I get a nice trance-like feeling as this song progresses, like with Epicus. This classic doom thing apparently has certain transportive qualities. This joint probably doesn’t hurt, apparently it goes well with heavy riffs. Thanks, bud. 4/5 |
Minushuman24
07.01.19 | neverrr!
I was surprised when they weren't in your ratings already! Makes sense that you already know of them though haha |
Minushuman24
07.01.19 | 1. Can't Cheat Karma - Zounds - Wow, this one caught me at the perfect time. I was just having an afternoon of listening to Flux of Pink Indians and Crass. I've never listened to these guys before, and honestly never heard of them. They're pretty good, I'd say kind of a poppier anarcho-punk b---I guess I should have read Sam's synopsis of this song. All of that basically yeah. Good shit. 3.9
2. Fatal Sisters Opened Umbrella - Xinlisupreme - Hazy. Noisy. Long. I like it though 3.5 |
ArsMoriendi
07.02.19 | "Can't Cheat Karma"
Catchy bass, frantically fun guitar, and fitting voice. Reminds me a bit of Crass, in a good way. Simple, but good.
4/5
"Fatal Sisters Opened Umbrella"
Whoa, this is mixed loudly. So far it seems like fairly typical shoegaze. 4 mins in and nothing interesting has happened. This is why I get turned off by so much shoegaze, so many things are happening, yet it ends up sounding like absolutely nothing. Okay, they added some ringing sounds, big deal. Maximalism as minimalism. FUCK that was boring.
2.2/5 |
Egarran
07.02.19 | I Learned Today - Now this punk I like. 3.3
Pra Fuder - Ha, that was good. Great lyrics. 4.2/5 |
garas
07.02.19 | 'Can't Cheat Karma' - I listened it yesterday, but not a memorable experience. 2.5
'Fatal Sisters Opened Umbrella' - Thanks for the rec, I really-really liked it! I'm very into every music which is based on a simple melody/melodies + has a huge atmosphere built-on. Both two parts of the song were exciting, lot of things happened, never got bored while listening. Additionaly, the song has a certain "ulverish" feeling, so bonus points for that. 4.2
May I ask, where did you get the idea to rec it for me Johnny? I'm very curious! |
Papa Universe
07.02.19 | 8 recs? really? |
garas
07.02.19 | Don't worry Papa, I'm sure we'll come up with some nice ideas. I'm on it! I just want to give something memorable or something~ |

07.02.19 | Fatal Sisters Opened Umbrella. 3.1 Fuzzy distorted slow start, then the noise kicks in. Lots happening here. My brain is struggling to take it all in, like being deep in the amazon at night with a circus, a zoo and an aquarium barely audible off in the distance. |

budgie
07.04.19 | slow summer days huh, everyone is out holidaying where i live!! freeways are packed ofc
yesterday on the 5 southbound there was a nasty collision backing holiday traffic up satans butthole and today there was a nasty collision northbound on the 5 at around the same mile marker lol, i was right next to it. of course there were out of state plates on the guy who caused the crash. damn zonies!!! i just want to live in a forest in france away from all this |
Minushuman24
07.04.19 | 3. The Rising of the Dark Lord - Holy shit this is some old school metal worship. He even sounds like Ozzy, jesus. I think I'd dig this if the guitars were beefier or sludgier. This is wearing on me pretty heavily tbh, I was really excited about this but ehhhh. 2.8
4. Something I learned Today - Husker Du - Hell yes, one of my favorite Husker Du songs. I adore the energy and the fuzz and the bass ugh yes. 4.3 |
Minushuman24

07.04.19 | "The Rising of the Dark Lord"
Fancy shredding followed by an Iommi-typical guitar riff and Ward-like drums. How does Doom metal as an entire genre feel being Black Sabbath worship bands? Even the vocals sound like Osbourne with a cold. This is way less engaging than Sabbath usually is though. Very drawn out. Also, bass is mixed low. :(
2.9/5
"Something I Learned Today"
Good drums, good bass, reminds me of Minutemen so far in fact. Self-identified gay bear Bob Mould has a raspy voice that I'm kind of neutral on though.
3.4/5 |
budgie
07.04.19 | wtf |
garas
07.04.19 | "The Rising of the Dark Lord" - As Ars mentioned: THE BASS IS MIXED LOW... how could they do that?! As a Sabbath-worshipping band that's unacceptable. Btw, the song is very gooooood tho. But the bass man... I can't give more than a 3.6.
"Something I Learned Today" - Not bad, but not extra. I might be weird, but somehow it reminded me to the early Metallica demos. 2.6. |
Egarran
07.04.19 | It's weird how the eighties generally decided to discard the low end. |
garas
07.04.19 | Yeah, sad... :[ |
budgie
07.04.19 | i just listened to the track through my headphones and could hear the bass guitar fine. so idk what's up. |
garas
07.04.19 | Yeah, you can hear it, but sometimes the bass completely lost in the mix - not "Butler-loud" enough. |
budgie
07.04.19 | look...... the mix on the album is fine. are you listening through laptop speaks or what is degrading the audio reproduction for you |
garas
07.04.19 | Hmmm, I checked "The Sorcerer" - that was much better. And no, I was listening through my headphones. |
budgie
07.04.19 | i love that track (: |
garas
07.04.19 | I can understand why! :] |
SlothcoreSam
07.04.19 | Got a 3.4 from ArsM, I'll take it.
The Rising of the Dark Lord. 3.1, not a fan of the vocals, they sound like a really good local band, big late 70s metal sound, nothing special here to rise above the comparisons of being an "Ozzy" sound-a-like act. |
budgie
07.05.19 | pagan altar is an ozzy sound-a-like act huh
i'll wait for trifolium's consideration but i'm one lousy descriptor away from never talking to any of you ever again |
SlothcoreSam
07.05.19 | Pagan Altar are good, but they just come across as a local band I'd check out for $5. I think the production of that album, listened to it via spotify through my sonos, is a pretty low standard as well.
But to reiterate, it isn't bad.

07.05.19 | "Pra Fuder" - The music itself was very good, but I wasn't a big fan of those vocals. 3.1 |
ArsMoriendi
07.06.19 | "Pra Fuder"
The music is fun and I actually know a song from this album pretty well (Maria da Vila Matilde.) This one is just as harsh and crazy, but not as engaging. Good horns anyway and I like how passionate she sounds.
3.8/5
"Snow Storm"
Bang growl bang growl bang growl bang growl.
2/5 |
garas
07.06.19 | "Snow Storm" - That was awesome!! Very cool track, massive riffs, good vocals. Maybe the drums were slightly loud, but that's just my personal preference. I def have to check the whole album! (And, man... they closed the song with the coolest riff!) 4.0 |
Egarran
07.06.19 | Fuck yeah! The rest is just as good, only more majestic. |

07.08.19 | All right, I'm caught up for the month. Here are my ratings so far:
1. Zounds - 3.5
2. Xinlisupreme - 3.1
3. Pagan Alter - 3.2
4. Husker Du - 3.8
5. Elza Soares - 3.2
6. Enisum - 2.9
7. Foxygen - 2.7
8. Neighborhood Brats - 3.5 |
SlothcoreSam
07.09.19 | 5. Pra Fuder, 3.7. Cool song, imagine your grandma doing this at 80, amazing.
6. Snow Storm, 3.9, love the start, musically this creates wonderful imagery in my brain. And it keeps getting better, instrumentally that is. The pirate sounding vocalist stuck in the aaaaaarrrrgh, is what brings this down for me. Would love an instrumental version of this band.
7. Make it known, 3.6. Foxygen had some great tracks off this album and their 2013 album "we are the 21st...." but since then, I've found them to be a bit blah. This song itself, is a throwback to 60s rock, with some crazy lyrics. Not a strong standalone track, but fits well in the album.
8. 50 Shades of Fuck You, 3.8. Fast aggressive garage punk, doing everything it should. I spent time with this album when it first came out, and upon revisiting, the tracks are very familiar and fun, would be great to see live.

Divaman
07.09.19 | Red Fang - Not terrible, but didn't really do anything for me either. 2.5 |
Trifolium
07.09.19 | Can't Cheat Karma: Fun, nice vox, great energy. 3.3
Fatal Sisters Opened Umbrella: Love how this sounds, trance inducing and cold, like a loooooong (12+ minutes maybe?!) walk through heavy rain. (I'm only now noticing the 'umbrella' part, it wasn't a silly joke I swear.) 3.0
The Rising Of The Dark Lord: This is cool! Love the guitar playing. Very melodic. 3.8
Something I Learned Today: Short but sweet, nothing much to say. This is shaping up to be a good month! 3.0
Snow Storm: Riffs are nice here. Reminds me of Mgla and Drudkh, and even some Alcest. Not bad at all! 3.3
Make It Known: Save for the vox this is nice. Don't like them much though, and despite nice drumming this is a little boring. 2.8
50 Shades Of Fuck You: Ha! Nice. Energetic, spiky. 3.5
Wires: Great vid, song is nice too actually. 3.3

07.10.19 | "Wires"
Wikipedia says it's stoner rock, but this is way more corporate sounding and boring than stuff like Electric Wizard or Kyuss though. Not that I'm into either of those bands. People who think Greta Van Fleet is saving the music industry would LOVE this.

garas
07.10.19 | "Celestial" - I expected something more based on the title. Not bad though. 2.9 |
Trifolium
07.10.19 | Celestial: Super old school beat. Synths are a little cheesy, especially in combination with that bass. I'm all for more electronic music though! 3.0 |
Tundra
07.10.19 | For 10 I've actually been digging some electronic stuff lately so this is good timing, the snare sound, and the drums, in general, could sound better, but all in all a decent song, 3.1 |
Egarran
07.10.19 | Wires - Thanks for this. It may be the most American thing I've seen all year. And there are A LOT of contenders. Stoner mythbusters ftw. 4.1/5 |
Trifolium
07.10.19 | Yeah, they totally reminded me of the Mythbusters too |
ArsMoriendi
07.11.19 | "Celestial"
The production of vaporwave + a simple house beat = wow this is the most mind-numbing thing of all time. My ex-roommate who used to just fuck around on a keyboard and post those noodlings to SoundCloud made more interesting shit than this.

07.11.19 | I'll give the Lights song a 3.1. |
Minushuman24
07.11.19 | And back from NYC, hello everyone.
Pra Fuder - Elza Solares - This was just a tiny bit weird, but I dug it. I'm a sucker for horns though. 3.4
Snow Storm - Enisum - This is the type of metal I can really get into. Not sure why, but the melody mixed with the raw aggression really strikes a chord with me. Plus it's actually fucking short for once. 3.7
Make It Known - Foxygen - yenno, I always thought that Foxygen was a indie folk band for some reason. I like this quite a bit, it sounds like a nice driving song. It even has a bit of a 60's/70's vibe which is appreciated. nice. 3.9
Wires - Red Fang - Ah, fuck yea Red Fang. Saw these guys a couple years back in Portland, they ruled. That being said, this has always been my least favorite "popular" Red Fang song. It's still a fun jam though. 3.7
Celestial - Kamsky Led - This was okay, nothing offensive. 2.6
...And Counting - Lights - This was simple, nice. It was pleasant. ahhh that's about it really 3.1

ArsMoriendi
07.13.19 | "...And Counting"
HER NAME IS IN ALL CAPS SO I'M GONNA WRITE THIS IN ALL CAPS. HER VOICE IS GENERIC AND POPPY AND HAS THAT TYPICAL MODERN SOFT RASP A LOT OF POP SINGERS HAVE FOR SOME REASON, BUT I LIKE THE STRINGS I SUPPOSE. THIS IS A BORING GENERIC BALLAD, LET'S BE REAL HERE.
2.4/5
"Express"
Very 90s alternative, but in Japanese. Not too impressive, but the bass is nice enough and her voice is engaging actually.

Egarran
07.14.19 | Celestial - This sounds like those loops I made on a flash player ten years ago. Oh Joe, I want you to come over so I can watch you clean my house to this. 2.5/5
...And Counting - She's a good singer, but the music was very plodding. Especially that piano, gah. 2.9
Express - Nice sounds. The distorted guitar is delicious. In fact this is so 90s. I wish they stepped it up even more at the climax. 3.7/5
Memories of Love - It's a bit like ^Lights. They just don't seem like they care. Who the hell made this guy a vocalist? 2.9/5
Papa Poppa - It made me think of Atom Heart Mother at first, but then it became just too 70s for me. 3/5
Norwegian Reggaeton - Pretty fantastic, just about two minutes too long. Ars is gonna LOVE this. 4/5
Dude - You know something about me that I don't, because my inner child/American totally resonated with this. It's like Stormtroopers of Death from a benign mirror universe. 4/5 |
SlothcoreSam
07.15.19 | Hey Ega, glad you enjoyed it, i was totally guessing with this one. The album actually has some other good stuff on it as well. It's kinda funky thrash. |
JohnnyoftheWell
07.15.19 | Can't Cheat Karma - This is fun. A little drier and more angular than the classic punk sound, makes me think of Mission of Burma. Tight band, got me tapping my foot etc 3.8
The Rising of the Dark Lord - Hey, this is pretty upbeat for doom! Crisp guitar tones too, nice. The harmonised riffs are there, but they've got more bounce and energy than I expected; quite enjoyed this for the first couple of minutes, but then it pulled a doom metal and meandered itself to oblivion without really switching gear. Outro is pure cheese but kinda ok 3.3
Something I Learned Today - I'm way overdue when it comes to checking this band properly. This slams as expected; kinda thought it would be a primitive version of Surfer Rosa or School Girl Distortional Addict, but it rips harder than the former and is more immediate than the latter. Extra points for that backing vox and short outro, really nice touches. 4
Pra Fuder - The music here is excellent and her vocal tone has something going for it, but that kind of aspirated, lispy Spanish is one of my pet hates. Still dig this quite a bit, it has a feverish kind of energy that got under my skin 4

07.17.19 | Xinlisupreme - Fatal Sisters Opened Umbrella: 2.0
sorry Johnny, but this really wasn't my cup of tea. I thought it started off decently, but it quickly became kind of tedious and the chaotic section that follows, albiet pretty cool and noisy, went on for far too long to be enjoyable. about halfway through I kinda wished it would end ^^. |

07.17.19 | Pagan Altar - Rising of the Dark Lord: 3.5
sometimes it's wanky, sometimes it's heavy, throughout it's epic. really enjoyed the final portion of the song with the singing and soloing sounding like a doomier version of Lynyrd Skynyrd. the vocals have that nasal quality that really works with this genre. is he channeling his inner Ozzy? and the guitars play some fine classic riffs that I really have no complaints with. they bangz! I probably might have enjoyed this slightly more if this genre hadn't been so overly saturated over these past few years, but this is definitely top quality doom. cheers! |

07.18.19 | 9. Wires, 3.8. Cool song from an album i listened to a bit when it came out.
10. Celestial, 2.9, summer chill that doesn't excite me.
11. ...and counting, 3.0 great voice, song is gentle.
12. Express, 3.0, a 90s sounding tune that i won't revisit.
13. Memories of love, 3.3, guy sounds like he is singing in his sleep, but it matches the song, so it's all good. The whole song feels like a dream.
14. Tasty, 3.5 tasty surf guitars, or is this on the uke, could easily listen to this whilst chilling on the beach sipping on cocktails. Then it picks up, where is the "fuck yeah" at the end if the song?
15. Norwegian Reggaeton, 3.4. Hello Eurovision. Well that's what i feel watching this.
17. Do they owe us a living? 3.9, love this anarcho punk shit. Thanks CrassMoriendi, i agree they do have better songs than this.
18. Fingertips- 3.7 start reminds me of massive attack. Vocals sound childish in a non-pedo good way. I like this, going to have to explore more.
19. The burning of Rome- 4.2 It's a spaghetti western theme, or was. Just turned into goth-punk, no wait it has changed again. Is this a musical? I like it, is the rest of the album like this?

07.19.19 | The Burning of Rome - 3.1 - It would be higher, except for the parts where it slows down and the female vocalist slides in. Nothing against her voice - it just goes from rocky to theatrical in a way that feels off to me. |
Egarran
07.19.19 | Do They Owe Us a Living? - Well this further underlines the fundamental split between ars' and my music taste.

07.19.19 | Papa Poppa: Too long, yet not bad. 2.5

Do They Owe Us A Living?: Hahaha Ars again. Ok. At least this one's short, it's also very ugly. 2.5
Terrible Tales From Tocqueville: Very musical-like. The cover is nice. Music is ok! 2.8
The Queen's Rebuke: This album is totally amazing and I should have rec'd something from this months ago. One of my faves, super mega hard 5.0

07.20.19 | "Memories Of Love"
Sounds cool so far. Very electronic and floaty and there's one of rhythm sticks. His voice is kinda bland, but the cool sounds make up for it.
3.4/5
"Papa Poppa"
Acoustic guitar, deep bass guitar, soloing electronic guitar. Those vocals suck and the direction is really bland. This is like the least special hard rock song I've ever heard. Is it bad? No. Is it good? No. It is.
2.5/5
"Norwegian Reggaeton"
Reggaeton metal? lol Probably 1,000x times more interesting than actual reggaeton. I bet Mike Patton would approve of this tenfold. Like would a regular reggaeton song use xylophone? I THINK NOT! IS HE PARODYING ZOMBIE BY CRANBERRIES? What. -.1 for being Italian and not Norweigan. Oddly, this is actually tolerable in its novelty.
3/5 |
ArsMoriendi
07.20.19 | "Don't Call Me Dude"
Doo-wop funk thrash? Ugh, thrash is so lame that it's ruining the better elements. Fun lyrics though.
2.7/5
"Fingertips"
Sick beat. I like the rattling machine sounds. Her voice is sweet. Trip-hop is such a damn good genre. It's very sensual and the strings and piano brighten it up. Ooh, that acoustic guitar works well too. Best song of the month.
4.4/5
"Terrible Tales from Tocqueville"
Not big on the vocals or honestly anything happening here. Just without interesting substance.
2.2/5
"The Queen's Rebuke"
Since when have they been edgy nu-prog? I thought they were indie folk. I was never big on Decemberists, but this direction is just so ugh. It's like, we get it, you wanted to be Muse for 1 song, but hey guys guess what? Muse sucks.

07.25.19 | Big catch-up:
"Don't Call Me Dude" - Kinda cool and sometimes really irritating, but not bad. 2.6
"Do They Owe Us a Living?" - This is just bad. 1.8
"Fingertips" - I felt like I heard this sometime, but I can't recall where and when... 2.7
"Terrible Tales from Tocqueville" - I wasn't sure if I'd like it or not in the beginning, but in the end: this song is excellent. 4.0
"The Queen's Rebuke" - Very good stuff. I especially loved the second half of the song. It was like a great mixture of Red Fang + Church of the Cosmic Skull. 4.1
"Sum" - I didn't like it, and it was boring.
"Four More Years" - Surprisingly good, I ended up listening to the whole album. 3.7
"Sound and Vision" - It was okay. 2.5
"Bird's Songs" - It was good, maybe "less could have been more". 3.0
"Fear of Flying" - It was okay. 2.5 |

garas
07.25.19 | Yeah, punk is not my thing, I prefer hardcore mixed with other genres. |

07.26.19 | Punk isn't dead, it just sounds like shit.
Wait, that's not how it goes.
Sorry, Ars. |

07.26.19 | There are still a few spots for July, Neeka. Papa has been offline for a few days, though, but we can at least add it to the spread sheet. |

07.27.19 | Fingertips - Damn this girl is clearly on shrooms. Strong Morcheeba vibes. 3.2/5
The Burning of Rome - Now strong Ayreon vibes here. Would fit seamlessley on one of his albums. Very nice. 3.8/5
Sum - I wish something more happened at the halfway point. This doesn't really lift off. But it does sound like good weeping music. 3.2/5
Four More Years - Even if this riff was played on a distorted, down-tuned guitar I would probably dislike it. And then the song just weirdly ends. I feel like I'm looking at a painting, going 'sheesh, my budgie could have painted this.' 2.9/5
Sound and Vision - I always disliked Bowie's sleazy disco version, so this is better. But it stil gives me a slight nausea. Nice video. 2.7/5 |

"Four More Years"
Psychedelic so far. Shitty drum machine. This seems like background music. Nothing is grabbing me I suppose.
2.6/5 |
Minushuman24
07.28.19 | re forever ago, I probably won't host for a while, considering I can barely get myself to sit and listen half the time. But feel free to steal the theme anyone.
I need a break from this fucking Chance the Rapper album, jesus.
12. Express - Saiko -
13. Memories of Love - Future Bible Heroes - Kind of a 80's goth feel to this, but a little too light sounding to fully capture that sound. This is fine, I dig the vocal melody, but I don't think I'll ever come back to this. 3.1
14. Papa Poppa - Good Rats - This is some dad rock if I ever heard it, holy shit. I really like the chorus in this song, but I hate those verses. 3
15. Norwegian Reggaeton - Nanowar of Steel - I don't think I know what Reggaeton really is, come to think of it. I kinda hated this... and then It grew on me really fast, I kinda dig this. I feel like I'm not supposed to, but I kindddda do 3.4
16. Don't Call Me Dude - Scatterbrain - I didn't really listen to the lyrics on that one, so I didn't pay attention to the "comedy" that others have mentioned past some certain lines. Seems par for the course in the realm of thrash/crossover bands. This was pretty fun sounding metal song though, which is rare for me nowadays. Not as good as Norwegian Reggaeton tho. 3.2
17. Do They Owe Us A Living? - Crass - Of course they fucking do. 4 |
ArsMoriendi
07.28.19 | "Sound and Vision"
Spacey sounding so far. Pretty guitar tone, the bass is mixed well, and I like those staticy drums. It's a pretty original cover and I usually scrutinize covers pretty hard. It's taking a while for the lyrics to come in hmm. The vocals are bland and robotic though, certainly the worst part of the song. Abrupt ending...
3.6/5 (Bowie's is like a 4.8/5, so it's a downgrade)
"Bird's Song"
So, it's just soloing? Meh. +.2 for being talented soloing.
2.7/5
"Fear Of Flying"
Sick as fuck percussion, great bass too! The guitar and vocals make this so shoegaze which is meh. It's weird how certain elements of this song make me go "wow!" and others make me go "meh" so I'm conflicted.
3.5/5
"This City Never Sleeps"
Well, I already like their biggest hit, so here goes nothing! The synth bass is good, the atmosphere is foggy which is neat. Those vocals are super 80s hmmm. This is kinda creepy in a good way.
3.9/5 |

07.28.19 | Guys, I think we need three more songs for the 29th through 31st. I already recommended three songs for July, so I don't want to e a song hog. Who else has songs to carry us through the month? |
Divaman
07.28.19 | Bowery Electric - 3.0 - it's repetitive, but I liked it. (I forgot to write this one down earlier.)
Dum Surfer - 2.0 - I liked the video a lot, but the song not so much. |
Minushuman24
07.28.19 | I got one for big papa.
Frustration - Electric Heat
Heard it on the radio, it jams, hopefully you'll like it

Minushuman24
07.28.19 | And if we are in dire need of a third rec, I got one for neeks
Pressed 2 Death - Illuminati Hotties
Kind of that nice indie pop rock, this is one of her more "aggressive" songs. Hopefully you get to it, and more importantly, like it!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BMPrvE6tbQE |
Divaman
07.28.19 | OK, I added those two to the spreadsheet, Minus, for the 29th and 30th.
Neeka, or anyone, have you got one last song for the 31st? |
Divaman
07.29.19 | I'll give Frustration a 3.0. I only gave it a 2.3 the first time, but I think I was just grumpy last night. Sounds better to me today. |
Egarran
07.29.19 | Fear of Flying - Despite my best efforts I'm picturing Trifo and Budgie making lazy love to this. 3/5
This City Never Sleeps - What, this is also a lazy porn song. Could be worse but YAAWN 3/5
Wind up Workin' in a Gas Station - Ah, Zappa. He's clearly a genius and most excellent on the guitar. But it's all so tongue-in-cheek. Ah it eventually gets groovy, nice. Thanks! 3.5/5
Dum Surfer - WTH IS GOING ON. Do I like this? There are many ugly elements, but it's somehow strangely alluring. Great rec! 3.7/5
Electric Heat - Damn there's a lot of punk this month, it hurts my average a lot. 2.7/5
Pressed 2 Death - Another great rec. Good, fun, original. 3.7/5 |
neekafat
07.29.19 | Yes! Okay, this is for budgie:
Shawn Colvin - The Facts About Jimmy (from A Few Small Repairs):
A slice of cold, stark female singer-songwriter feels from the 90s, whose minimalist instrumentation and pained lyrics I feel largely acted as a precursor to the current revival of the genre.

07.29.19 | Dum Surfer is one of those songs you should hate, but every time i hear it, i want more. The rest of King Krule is nothing like this. |
ArsMoriendi
07.29.19 | "Dum Surfer"
Good bass so far. Wow, he's so English, almost to an obnoxious level, but this is fairly original sounding and I kinda dig it. Discordant and atmospheric and with a saxophone. Neat.
3.9/5
"Pressed 2 Death"
Is this late age Devo? Pretty boring honestly.
2.5/5 |

07.30.19 | The Illuminati Hotties - 2.4 - the stops and starts and speed changes annoyed me. |

"Dum Surfer" - Ugh... I hate this. 1.2

"Pressed 2 Death" - A silly, catchy fun song. 3.2

SlothcoreSam
07.30.19 | Yeah, i noticed you listened and rated the album a 3, but hoped you like this song more than that, as it unique compared to the rest of the album.
This song was the stand out off the album for me, and it didn't match my album rating of 3. |

07.31.19 | Shawn Colvin - 3.2 - laid back, but good. |

07.31.19 | "Pressed 2 Death"
Kinda obnoxious, but in a fun way. Not bad. Reminds me of that Garfunkel and Oats duo a bit though.
3.5/5
"The Facts About Jimmy"
This one's catchy and certainly has good drums. This is a woman, so why the fuck is she named "Shawn" DAMN YOU HIP NEW AGE PARENTS! This is very adult-contemporary. It makes me wonder if neeka is an old man trapped in a young man's body.
3.1/5

08.01.19 | terrible tales from tocqueville: i guess there's there an undercurrent motif from one of the morricone tracks in one of the spaghetti westerns in this track but i cannot remember which. this track overall just had way too much going on and i don't like that jumbled shit, probably would have liked it if it stuck to one gear, sorry bro. 2.0
the decemberists - queens rebuke. vocals were nice but i don't like the 90s alt rock grunge whatever rhythm sound and then all of out of nowhere we're doin occult proggy 70s shit 2.0 sorry bro srsly wtf you guys dont know me at all
bird's song - bird songs with chilled post rock instrumentation wtf why haven't i heard this before i am gonna buy this album asap. reminds me of saxon shore but saxon shore doesn't even have birds 4.5
fear of flying - uinghhhhhh this is so sweet. dreamy vox brought from a certain 3.5 to a 4+ for me. is the entire album so chill? 4.0 with room to grow gotta check the full thing for sure. also the soundscape in this track really makes me think of france for some reason. the album art matches the sound perfectly
shawn colvin - pretty much didn't like this but halfway through the song i was bumpin along with it so 3.0+. pretty lukewarm in general with country vibes which explains my low rating but it's a good track through and through |
Trifolium
08.01.19 | Yes budgie yes it is, the album is super worth it. Glad you dig! |

Ratings incoming! |
Trifolium
08.02.19 | Sum: Like the pulsating bass synth, love the vibes, vox remind me a bit of Bon Iver or something, don't know for certain. Not bad at all! 3.0
Four More Years: Thanks budg! Great beat, love the echo and that vocal effect is cooool. Makes me think of Blanck Mass with less noise. Now some Justice vibes come in. Cool track, will check the rest of this little thingy! 3.8
Sound and Vision: Os you were so right, this is awesome. I dig big time, what a smooth, consistent cover with superb flow. 4.0
Bird's Song: I'm not that big on instrumental rock music, I always feel like something is missing. 2.3
This City Never Sleeps: Another big bulls eye this. Thanks for the rec Diva, love it! I'm putting this album on top of my list for sure, whoa. Super mega dig these vibes. 4.3
Wind Up Workin' In A Gas Station: Some cool atmosphere here for sure, love how this is mixed. Plus the guitar playing of course, great. 3.5
Dum Surfer: I've checked this album once, loved it, put it in my Discogs wishlist and never checked it again, although it keeps popping up daily. Maybe I should finally buy it because I still enjoy this. That low bass, echoing drums, weird guitar layer and those cool vox. 3.7
Electric Heat: Not really my thing, especially those vocals. 2.1
Illuminati Hotties: This on the other hand is quite cool! Love the dynamics here. Big energy and relax in the sun vibes in two minutes. 3.3
The Facts About Jimmy: This is totally great! Now I get where Melody Gardot got her inspiration for Currency Of Man (which is a great album!) from. This album is also going on the list! 4.0
