Top 20 "extreme" metal album as of May 2020
One album per band. Not sure if "extreme" or even "metal" are the right words but whatever. |
20 | | Shylmagoghnar Transience |
19 | | Twilight Monument To Time End
I usually don't care about "supergroups" but this one is pretty good. Their short discography is a little uneven but Monument to Time End is definitely their best work. |
18 | | Ars Veneficium Usurpation of the Seven
A rather little-known (I think?) or at least little spoken about band. These folks from Belgium released two amazing albums so far both great with Usurpation of the Seven being their last and best one imo. |
17 | | Zhrine Unortheta
...Iceland. Can't wait for their second album. This might be one of the strongest first album I've heard in a while. |
16 | | The Great Old Ones Tekeli-Li
The Great Old Ones probably needs no introduction at this point. Any of their albums could be on here really. |
15 | | Blood Incantation Hidden History of the Human Race
Took me a while to get on the hype train for that one...but I get it now. This is a great album. |
14 | | Ulsect Ulsect
Ulsect's first offering is an intricate and wonderful piece of metal. |
13 | | Morality Crisis Boats
Enormous. Fucking. Death. Ass. Knife. |
12 | | Wormlust The Feral Wisdom
Iceland again! I love the construction of the compositions and the pacing of the songs. Great blend between extreme and some more atmospheric sounds. |
11 | | Car Bomb Mordial
What a fine release from Car Bomb. Top notch production and performance . |
10 | | Serpent Column Mirror In Darkness
To be honest, the change of theme is nice. Just good stuff here. |
9 | | Carpe Noctem Vitrun
I don't know what's going on in Iceland but they figured out how to compose great black metal. |
8 | | Ulcerate Stare Into Death and Be Still
I didn't see this one coming. I thought it would be lower on the list but turns out this album is just perfect proving that Ulcerate are still very much relevant today. Impressive. |
7 | | Thantifaxath Sacred White Noise
Beautiful well-crafted black metal. A treat! |
6 | | Deathspell Omega Paracletus
Just an obvious choice. No need to elaborate. |
5 | | Schammasch Hearts of No Light
Why nobody talks about that band? I chose Hearts of No Light in the spirit of keeping this list "extreme" but Triangle might be better. Whatever, listen to Schammasch, they deserve way more recognition. |
4 | | Converge All We Love We Leave Behind
Any album from Jane Doe to The Dusk in Us could be here...I chose All We Love but honestly my pick is anything Converge! |
3 | | Nero di Marte Immoto
Nero di Marte entered a league of their own with this album imo. They set the bar incredibly high. |
2 | | Gorguts Colored Sands
Only blemish would be The Battle of Chamdo but the rest is as solid as it can be. |
1 | | Rorcal Muladona
Flawless masterpiece all genres combined. |
