| Underrated Vocalists
HI All, this is a list of Vocalist's i feel garner undeserved criticism for one reason or another. Nothing underground or obscure, but rather large artists who never get the credit i feel they deserve. | 1 | | Black Veil Brides Wretched and Divine
Andy Biersack - actually my favourite vocalist, his powerful raspy croon completely stands out in his genre of whiny falsetto wails, truly gritty and grimey whilst being completely melodic. Not the greatest range of all time, but what he has he uses very well. | 2 | | Megadeth The World Needs a Hero
Dave Mustaine - Im gonna say it; Dave's vocals are better than Jame's Hetfields. I can't think of Thrash Vocals I enjoy more... | 3 | | Darkthrone Under a Funeral Moon
Nocturno Culto - Yes Darkthrone (particularly early) does gain a lot of praise, but not much of it ever focuses on just how perfect NC's vocal performances were. The epitome of Black metal. | 4 | | Black Sabbath Headless Cross
Tony Martin - I would honestly argue, that while not the most definitive, Tony might be the best Vocalist Sabbath ever had. | 5 | | R.E.M. Murmur
Michael Stipe - if you can understand a word he says... Stipe's vocals are normally always enjoyable. | 6 | | Gorgoroth Ad Majorem Sathanas Gloriam
Gaahl - too much focus on the dramas that come with Gaahl, and then you see the comments like he uses too much reverb blah blah like he is the first and only BM vocalist to do this; Gaah'ls vocals are hypnotising. | 7 | | Suicide Silence No Time to Bleed
Mitch Lucker - It's easy to forget in 2020, 8 years after mitch Lucker's death, just how above the pack his vocals were. Shame about the manure the band produced after his tragic death. | 8 | | Eels Daisies Of The Galaxy
Mr E - not particularly a strong singer, but the music couldn't have ever had another singer and sound the same. | 9 | | Lloyd Banks Rotten Apple
Lloyd Banks - strange inclusion i know, but banks's gritty grimey voice fits his foul mood and hardcore NY sound perfectly. | 10 | | Oasis Definitely Maybe
Noel G - the biggest and best hits Oasis ever had, had Liam on vocals but Noel is the superior song writer and vocalist. | 11 | | Job for a Cowboy Ruination
Jonny Davy - Dismissed pretty early on as Deathcore garbage, The ever evolving JFAC have always had who i feel to be one of Death Metal's strongest and unique vocalists. | |

06.08.20 | just wanna raise attention and have a discussion tbh | TheNotrap
06.08.20 | "Tony might be the best Vocalist Sabbath ever had."
Iommi stated that in an interview I read back in the days.
| JeremiahBullfrog
06.08.20 | did he? Well he was right, although I have enjoyed all their vocalists tbh | TheNotrap
06.08.20 | I do love Tony Martin's passionate vocals, but my favorite will always remain Ozzy, even if I consider Dio technically the best singer. | JeremiahBullfrog
06.08.20 | I completely agree with everything you said, favourite; Ozzy, Technically Best; Dio, Most underappreciated; Tony | JDubb
06.08.20 | I concur that Andy Biersack has a great voice and, due to the stigma around BVB, does not get the appreciation he deserves. | JeremiahBullfrog
06.08.20 | Very pleased to hear that JDubb, a voice i never tire of. | ReturnToRock
06.08.20 | Blaze Bayley - He wasn't a bad singer, he just wasn't Bruce Dickinson.
Joey Belladonna - He's like the perfect middle ground between Neil Turbin and John Bush. Surprisingly technical for thrash metal, too.
Tom Keifer - If they hadn't cultivated the glam image, Cinderella would have been a perfectly respectable and respected classic/blues-rock band. And Tom Keifer would have been seen as a really competent and unique singer. | TheNotrap
06.08.20 | Tom Keifer is a good call. I remember him winning the singer of the year award in 1988 on a well known Portuguese radio show called Rock em Stock. | ReturnToRock
06.08.20 | Ha I remember the name of that show from seeing it mentioned over the years, but somehow I don't think I would have been a regular listener at age 3... | robertsona
06.08.20 | the guy from the new irish band fontaines d.c. has an amazing voice, my favorite baritone-y-post-punk-ish voice ever maybe all told | JeremiahBullfrog
06.08.20 | return - yeah some really good mentions there, i agree about Cinderella.
robert - will check those guys out! | 0GuyMan0
06.08.20 | big fucking props to 4. I also believe he's technically better than Dio, who I've always felt was just naturally gifted and took decent care of his voice without pushing too far out of his comfort zone. | ReturnToRock
06.08.20 | Oh yeah, and CJ Snare. Not a technical marvel by any means, but he has his own identity as a singer (no one sounds EXACTLY like CJ Snare) and hits a really wide range - he can go from a croony Bon Jovi husk, through a Vince Neil snarl, to a high pitched wail. | 0GuyMan0
06.08.20 | I literally just stanned CJ in another thread. dude was a top-tier vocalist, the band was just a few years late. | Deathconscious
06.08.20 | mitch lucker is overrated. weak lows, and only two modes with not much variation, at least on their first couple of albums. i dont remember what he sounded like later on. idk how you could say he's underrated, hes one of the most revered vocalists in DC. | JeremiahBullfrog
06.09.20 | yeah theres wads of crazy vocalists in DC in 2020, but in 2007 i dunno man it was pretty special | ReturnToRock
06.10.20 | Dare I add Johnny Rotten/John Lydon here? He is seen as pretty much a joke singer, but the fact is, he has a unique and immediately identifiable style, which is also a big part of what makes the Sex Pistols' sound immediately identifiable.
See also: Justin Hawkins, although he IS kind of a joke singer, albeit on purpose. | JeremiahBullfrog
06.10.20 | Justin Hawkins has got skill, man that Christmas song is a banger.
Also Johnny Rotten is iconic in the sex pistols |
