08.01.20 | Because JefferyBigglestein's list is bad :O |
evilford
08.01.20 | Damn now this is a list I can get behind. In the mouth of madness is underrated af
And no country for old men and heat? Count me in |

08.01.20 | Good to see Fallen Angels in here |
hel9000
08.01.20 | Jesse James is an amazing film agreed |
el_newg
08.01.20 | surprised you pick Fistful of Dollars over the 2 sequels, but all three are legendary |
ReefaJones
08.01.20 | @el_newg
Yeah all 3 are great and though Fistful of Dollars is the most imperfect of the bunch it was my first introduction to spaghetti Western and it holds a special place in my heart ever since lol. Love that movie. |
LeddSledd
08.01.20 | Big props for including Come and See, Spirited Away, and No Country for Old Men. All excellent films in their own way. Really nice list
And yeah, I hate to say it but Bigglesteins' list was kinda mediocre, if he wasn't doing it just to piss Sputnik off lol |
Jots
08.01.20 | imo lacks a bit of pre-60s material. I’d recommend Ikiru (1952), fwiw if I ever made a top-25 films list it’d warrant a spot |
ReefaJones
08.01.20 | I've seen Ikiru |
riffariffic7
08.01.20 | Now THIS is a list of great movies. Come and See is a masterpiece. Literally the best child performance ever. |
Jots
08.01.20 | @reef - k well for those who haven’t |
Jots
08.01.20 | tbh most of the Akira Kurosawa films that decade (50s) are great. add to the Hitchcock and Welles 50s films and I mean, 👨🍳 😘
|
Divaman
08.01.20 | Don't know that Barry Lyndon would make my greatest films list, but it has one of the best theme songs ever. Much love to The Chieftains. |

08.01.20 | 1 - Nice choice. Not my favorite Kubrick by a longshot (that'd be either EYES WIDE SHUT or PATHS OF GLORY) but a great film nonetheless. Worthy top spot.
2 - Have never loved BLADE RUNNER all that much, but at least you didn't pick the far inferior 2049.
4 - Hell yes. Is in my personal Top Five as well.
7/8 - If I had to pick two entries I disagree with most, these would be them.
11 - Not at all a Bergman fan but PERSONA is easily my favorite of his. That, and THROUGH A GLASS DARKLY. I can do without just about everything else tbh.
12 - Understand the love for this one but could never really get into it myself. Leigh has just never quite been my cup 'o tea. Though I do like TOPSY TURVY.
13 - Was long my favorite Coen bros. movie, has since been dethroned by MILLER'S CROSSING.
14 - Classic. (Though I prefer the second myself.)
19 - Interesting Leone pick but I love it. (I do prefer his version of the story to YOJIMBO, honestly.) One of my favorite filmmakers, can't go wrong with any of his films.
20 - Another one that I understand the critical love of, but I kinda sorta hate LVT outside of DANCER IN THE DARK and BREAKING THE WAVES.
Nice list!! |
alamo
08.01.20 | 1. Happy Death Day (2017) |
Shuyin
08.01.20 | Some of these are my favourites as well, I can't state how much I love NCFOM and Blade Runner. I never saw the original Harakiri tbh, watched the remake instead, solid movie but nowhere near as good as Twilight Samurai |
bigguytoo9
08.01.20 | Someone stole my bluray copy of Jesse James not long after I bought it and I never replaced it in my collection. Blade Runner though, THAT is a wonderful movie and deserves to be in the top 5, yes indeed. |
OpenUpandLetMeIn
08.01.20 | Solid list. I've seen everything except Woman in the Dunes, Come and See, Naked, Dogville and The Sacrifice. Will have to get on that. |
ReefaJones
08.01.20 | @OpenUpandLetMeIn
thx dude. I'd recommend watching some of Tarkovsky's other movies before The Sacrifice if you haven't already. |

08.01.20 | yeah mid 20s seems like the median around here, but that's not too far off |

08.01.20 | Now this a good list |
ReefaJones
08.01.20 | "Lemme guess, you're a white dude in your late 30s?" Wrong
"Maybe early 40s" Wrong |

08.01.20 | I like the Kubrick picks, 6, and 13
Solid list |

08.02.20 | I was going to make a separate list for these, but this is such a great list of films that it wouldn't feel right to undermine it. Here's a video of me making a damned fool of myself while talking about ten random movies for over a half-hour: https://youtu.be/h6KOvY5VtRI |
YoYoMancuso
08.02.20 | Reefa what did you think of Blade Runner 2049 |
ReefaJones
08.02.20 | I really liked it. Totally different vibe compared to the original though. Villeneuve is awesome though. |
