08.28.20 | Overall it's been a pretty good year for music but I know there's more stuff out there than what I tend to pigeonhole myself into. Stoke to see what albums you guys are passionate about. |
JohnnyoftheWell
08.28.20 | Ummmm I've been too lazy to pick an AOTY that isn't 6, but I guess Bambara - Stray?
Nick Cave-esque noisey post-punk with super engaging pacing, vivid storytelling, memorable choruses and mostly solid af consistency. It's good. Idk, plugging music and being passionate are both hard |
WalrusTusk
08.28.20 | I get that haha. I checked that one earlier this year but I might just not have been in the right head space for it. I'll toss it up there with your soaring recommendation and if you come up with something more inspired I'll edit it haha. |

08.28.20 | its august... |
JoyfulPlatypus
08.28.20 | Kind of a weird choice, but I like Enter Shikari - Nothing is True and Everything is Possible. It has killer hooks, impeccable flow from song to song, and is one of my favorite times a band has mixed rock/post-hardcore with electronic and have it NOT be incredibly cringey! |
Groundking
08.28.20 | Protest is my AOTY so far for pretty much the reasons you've put, excellent record. |
SlothcoreSam
08.28.20 | Classics of Love - World of Burning Hate. EP

Comes out tomorrow.
Cus I want to pretend I'm living in the 80s listening to this.
Fuck 2020. |

08.28.20 | "its august..."
I can change it to "current" AOTY if it's upsetting you. AT this point we're halfway through.

08.28.20 | 2/3 actually. And nah it's obvious you meant AOTY so far
Mine would probably be Starmaker by Honey Harper. When Sowing described it as "cosmic dream country" in his review I instantly knew I had to check it out, and it pretty much lived up to that description. So if you like the sound of cosmic dream country check it out. |

08.28.20 | Caleb-I enjoy that album. Nice pick!
Mary-I've never actually sat down with that band but I'll give it a check. |
Icebloom
08.28.20 | Rt for the Bambara album, good stuff that |
WalrusTusk
08.28.20 | What do you like about the new Bambara Icebloom? I thought it had some cool ideas but it didn't blow me away like the new HTMLD did. |
Icebloom
08.28.20 | Well basically what Johnny said haha. Super tight post-punk with strong Nick Cave vibes, very consistent as well - couldn't name a dud. And usually I don't really care for lyrics, but I really appreciate the storytelling on Stray. The closer for example feels like a short Stephen King horror story. |
CygnusX1
08.28.20 | That new haken album has become an earworm for me. I dig the heavier stuff, and the singers vocal melodies are great. Great riffing and love the callbacks to "cockroach king" in messiah complex. Feel the same about 4 and 8.

08.28.20 | Messiah Complex is probably one of Haken's best songs. |
NOTINTHEFACE
08.28.20 | Empty Country - Empty Country: Excellent Americana-infused folk rock album from the cymbals eat guitars guy. The whole thing is just this massive dose of nostalgia and dreams of better times for me, and it's very therapeutic. Bangers include "Marian" and "Southern Cloud", although for me there's not a weak track.
I also second the Mac Miller and Bambara picks, both excellent records. |
gschwen
08.28.20 | At present it's Hum - Inlet. A ridiculously great comeback album from a band that hasn't released an album in 22 years. |
dbizzles
08.28.20 | Hard to pick one, but figured I'd stay away from metal.
Cindy Lee - What's Tonight to Eternity
Cindy Lee been doin' it, but this is the one that hits that special spot. This album dances seamlessly from being sweet and infectious to absolutely terrifying. With old-timey pop up-front, What's Tonight to Eternity is buffed with shades of post-punk and noise rock that help create an atmosphere not quite like anything else you'll hear this year. |

08.28.20 | Zach Bryan - Elisabeth
Regardless of it's length which seems to put people off, it has never bothered me and I think it's one of it's strong points. every song is exciting and honest in songwriting slight subtle changes in instruments throughout kept me interested and the fact it's recorded in a barn makes it all the better for me. |
teamster
08.28.20 | AOTY half way point? Elder - Omens. Love the new post rock direction. Halcyon is my song of the year so far too...
|
Snake.
08.28.20 | ramper - nuestros mejores deseos
very eerie and dynamic mix of post-metal, shoegaze, and slowcore. musical equivalent of walking through a very expansive cave with a dimly lit candle and the only recognize sounds are distant water droplets, all while the cave is about to cave in on itself |

08.28.20 | ^ whose alt is this taking over the front page rn |

08.30.20 | Damn, missed some of these responses. I'll get these up in a hot minute when my hangover stops bumpin. |
RabbitSeason
08.30.20 | Thy Catafalque - Naiv. wonderful Hungarian folk/prog metal? meandering (in a good way) songs with beautiful melodies. probably similar to your tastes for the year while stretching em a bit |
WalrusTusk
08.31.20 | Great albums so far. Keep em coming folks. Can't wait to check someone of these out! |
thunderlimbo
09.26.20 | Deftones - Ohms
On par with White Pony. |
madrigal30
09.26.20 | plague skater - plague skater
heccra/don caballero inspired math rock with a bedroom pop sensibility qnd a hell of a lot of riffs |
