06.14.21 | ah yeah was meaning to check out more WASP! |
MrSirLordGentleman
06.14.21 | Certainly an inconsistent genre, but most albums have a few bangers on them and there are certainly a couple of classic records in the genre. Certainly doesn't deserve the hate
WASP's The Crimson Idol might be the best glam metal album ever imo. The Final Countdown, Stay Hungry and Whitesnake are other essentials |
0GuyMan0
06.14.21 | BVB being "far more talented and technical than any of the 80's fluff ever was with much more serious and darker tones" is one of the most triggering sentences I've ever fucking read on here. Holy shit.

Ryus
06.14.21 | black veil brides is prob better than all of the 80s shit yeah |
MrSirLordGentleman
06.14.21 | 80's "shit" >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> BVB |
Ryus
06.14.21 | idk man lol glam/80s hard rock is prob my least favorite type of rock music |
MrSirLordGentleman
06.14.21 | I don't love it, but it's not like it tries to be anything more than just fun, catchy music with catchy solos. It's really inoffensive imo
I don't mind BVB but the thing is they do take themselves as a serious and superior band |
SitarHero
06.14.21 | "but on the other hand they are far more talented and technical than any of the 80's fluff ever was"
The fuck are you even talking about? Go jam some Extreme, Winger, Mr. Big, and NITRO you n00b. |
0GuyMan0
06.14.21 | The big glam bands had to be fucking great musicians to get ahead. Crue were so early it didn't matter, but even they had a songwriting genius in Nikki and Mick was certainly no slouch. Even the (IMO) consistently awful Poison had CC, a highly creative and legitimate shredder. Warrant, Cinderella, Trixter, you name it. The top two tiers of glam were excellent at their craft.
I won't even bring up Winger. People STILL argue about how to properly play Seventeen, their most (in)famous song. |
SitarHero
06.14.21 | Yeah seriously. CC Deville gets derided as being the worst of the '80s shredders and that dude could play his ass off. |
TheSpirit
06.14.21 | ^^^ That's not even mentioning (the Crue part) Tommy, whose drumming not only had feel but was also pretty technical (for a hair band) |
CaliggyJack
06.14.21 | There are two kinds of people:
-People who enjoy Glam Metal
-People who are boring |
SitarHero
06.14.21 | "That's not even mentioning (the Crue part) Tommy, whose drumming not only had feel but was also pretty technical (for a hair band)"
Plus there's guys like Torpey and Morgenstein who were highly respected regardless of genre. |

06.15.21 | "WASP's The Crimson Idol might be the best glam metal album ever imo."
ehhh is that album even glam though, feels closer to regular ol heavy metal
but if it counts then yeah, that's the best one by like a mile |

06.15.21 | Dr Feelgood was the climax of glam metal which prophetically concluded with the song Time For Change, then Nirvana came along and made glam irrelevant |

Muzz79
06.15.21 | Nah I haven’t, only the headless children. Will do. I was massively into Motley Crue and other like bands in 89-90 but not wasp. As soon as nirvana killed the vibe I went in search of metal |
ReturnToRock

06.15.21 | Im afraid to get into the argument of what is and isn't glam metal.
I mean if Skid Row is glam, their first two are basically the top of the pile. I say they aren't.
My top albums would definitely involve these
Cinderella - Night Songs
Motley Crue - Dr. Feelgood (maybe my favorite production job ever)
Dokken - Under Lock and Key
Firehouse - Firehouse (though Hold Your Fire has three of their best songs)
WASP - WASP (A jacked up, sleezy metal masterpiece, really).
Europe - The Final Countdown (if you've never heard their other jams...)
Warrant - Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinkin' Rich
Slaughter - Stick it to ya' (there's some fluff, but some heavy fuckin' bangers too)
Honorable mention to a couple poison songs, since I'm on a roll. I despise the band on the whole, but Unskinny Bop, Love on the Rocks and Fallen Angel are great. |
rockarollacola
06.15.21 | Glam is due for some serious re-evaluation. 'Under Lock and Key' is one of the best metal records of the 80's as far as I'm concerned.
Recs:
Honeymoon Suite - The Big Prize
Ratt - Invasion of Your Privacy
Alien - Alien
Danger Danger - Danger Danger
Kix - Blow My Fuse
Def Leppard - Pyromania/Hysteria (both are near perfect albums)
Stryper - To Hell With the Devil
Krokus - The Blitz
Alice Cooper - Hey Stoopid
Uriah Heep - Different World
Scorpions - Savage Amusement
W.A.S.P. - Any of their first 3 records
Zebra - 3.V
Helix - Walkin' on the Razors Edge |
0GuyMan0
06.15.21 | I agree, and believe Nu-metal deserves the same lmao. Show someone 'Til the Living End or Lightning Strikes Again and ask them if that sounds like a glam metal band, amirite?
Besides Photograph I really didn't think Pyromania was really all that glam, but I guess most of the NWOBHM was out of their system by then. |
Nerdurosis
06.15.21 | So this site likes shitty hair metal, but hates power metal? Y'all depress me. |
0GuyMan0
06.15.21 | there's probably like five of us who legitimately like hair metal.
but power metal is big gay yeah

06.15.21 | "So this site likes shitty hair metal, but hates power metal? Y'all depress me."
Power metal fucks hard too IMO. Both are criminally misunderstood and hated by "serious music critics" and posers alike. |

I think in general Def Lep, like Van Halen, isn't a glam metal. They may have partially inspired it, but they existed before and outside of it. Kind of like RATM and Nu Metal. |
budgie
06.16.21 | power metal like blind guardian is embarrassing yeah
power metal like brocas helm is dope |
Muzz79
06.16.21 | Gonna jam wasp debut today budgie |
budgie
06.16.21 | my man |
0GuyMan0
06.16.21 | Yeah that's a good comparison Sitar. Hysteria is as close as they got. Some of those songs...that was pretty fucking close. But that album is so fucking good that it doesn't matter. I still consider it underrated. |
ReturnToRock
06.16.21 | 'I think in general Def Lep, like Van Halen, isn't a glam metal.'
Uh...yeah they are. At least their million-selling period is pretty much the definition of glam. Even Poison never sounded that plastic The only other bands from that time that came close to sounding THAT studio-processed were KISS and Bon Jovi.
Also, I like some power metal - Helloween is great, and I dig the occasional song by Angra/Stratovarius/Sonata Arctica/Nightwish and bands of that kind. |
JeremiahBullfrog
06.16.21 | Thank you all my dudes |
SitarHero
06.16.21 | "Uh...yeah they are"
Umm, no they aren't. They were around before glam and while their sound got more mainstream as time went by, whose didn't? The existence of Load and Reload doesn't make Metallica an alt rock band. Rush's '80s synth period doesn't make them a new wave band. |
