09.08.21 | I wish I made more food besides frozen pizzas and cereal but I really enjoyed making crepes and french toast from scratch |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
09.08.21 | Colton looks like he's literally never had anything BUT toast for dinner |
Egarran
09.08.21 | I like to make rice dishes.
And I don't even own a rice cooker, man, I'm doing that shit _old school_
Today I made beef with ham/cheese stuffing though. It was a request. Served with homegrown potatoes.
I like rice dishes more. |
Colton
09.08.21 | pots has finasteride fajitas for dinner every night |
WeepingBanana
09.08.21 | Speaking of polish I think I might try making some bialy soon
Cooking is the only thing that gives me purpose |
Egarran
09.08.21 | It's a good purpose |
Dedes
09.08.21 | I've heard of bialy
Just looked into it, legit just sounds like bagels but better (cue in Josh weismann)
And I mean that in a good way. I can really dig some bagels man |
SteakByrnes
09.08.21 | buy a rice cooker my man [2]
I make so much rice dude, goes well with so many dishes. Love making asian spicy chicken stuff and layering it on rice |
Colton
09.08.21 | rice and beans is my go-to meal when I want something healthy with decently high protein |
Ryus
09.08.21 | nice i live right by a neighborhood called "little poland" with the real deal pierogi n all kinds of good shit |
Dedes
09.08.21 | Authentic polish food is the real goddamn deal man
I really wanna make polish hangover soup
It's got like kielbasa and sour cream and cabbage in it. All sorts of good stuff.
Fuggit maybe I'll get a rice cooker. They're relatively cheap aren't they? |
WeepingBanana
09.08.21 | Fucking love kapusta and kielbasa. Throw some spicy mustard in there, ultimate comfort food
Also I’ve been realizing lately that polenta is the superior carb to pour sauces/stews/curries over |
Jebull
09.08.21 | I moved to Germany last year, been enjoying trying out all the new cuisine I've never had. Haven't cooked much of it yet though. |
WeepingBanana
09.08.21 | Prime tomato season almost up, what have you guys been making? I’ve made a tomato and dijon tart, a cherry tomato galette, gazpacho, caprese, and a bunch of BLTs with homemade mayo. Can’t even begin to describe what a difference homemade mayo makes. It’s like a completely different condiment from store bought |
Ryus
09.08.21 | that rings true with a lot of homemade vs. storebought stuff |
WeepingBanana
09.08.21 | Yeah obviously but especially so with mayo. It’s also insanely quick and easy if you have an immersion blender |
Ryus
09.08.21 | i like making homemade dill pickles. shit slaps |
WeepingBanana
09.08.21 | Oooh yeah big time. Pickled eggs rule too |
garas
09.08.21 | Dedes, you're Polish?? :0 🇵🇱 🇭🇺 |
Dedes
09.08.21 | I'm not from Poland. Just heavy Polish ancestry. My mums side is almost entirely polish and my dads side is split between English and Polish. On my mum's side I thinks it was like my great great grandmother that came over to the u.s in the 1920s |
Parallels
09.08.21 | I like to rock some Spanish Rice (extra spicy and complete with a bit of brown sugar and lots of pperoncinis), cabbage and sausage soup, grilled cheese with mayonnaise and egg, chocolate chip cheesecake (dense, not the no-bake fluffy stuff), seasoned and flame grilled ribeyes at a true medium rare, and my favorite sandwich: dark rye bread, heated red onions + sliced turkey + Swiss or provolone, inbetween Pesto and cranberry sauce. |
Parallels
09.08.21 | Love me some charcuterie boards too/"foraging"
Prosciutto, green olives, Manchego, pickled onions, brie, honey, raisins, and water crackers with a tall glass of wine or a whiskey-heavy manhattan |
Hyperion1001
09.08.21 | i eat the same things for each meal every day |
Trebor.
09.08.21 | I make korean spicy braised tofu with broc and rice every week. It's lit |
gravityswitch
09.08.21 | I'm french so I eat microwave rice with leftover BK sauce obviously |
ArsMoriendi
09.08.21 | I'm half Italian ethnically and I mostly cook Italian cuisine. My favorite things to make are pesto, baked ziti, and minestrone (especially since minestrone has so much variability in what veggies you can use)
My other side is Hungarian (we'll culturally, they're ethnically Ashkenazi Jewish) so I do also have pretty good recipes for goulash soup and stuffed cabbage
With that said, I do like cooking other types of cuisine. For instance, I recently made tzatziki sauce with lamb souvlaki and it came out great (the cucumbers were garden fresh.) Not too sure about most Asian cuisine, but the occasional winging it Asian stir fry is fun. Especially if I have access to peanut oil, bok choy, and ginger |
Dedes
09.09.21 | Baked ziti wew lad
I've made baked ziti a fair bit at work but the way we make it is disgraceful
Not even baked
What kind of McDonald's fast food bullshit is that |
ArsMoriendi
09.09.21 | What is non-baked baked ziti? microwaved ziti? :( |
Trebor.
09.09.21 | baked ziti rocks my world |
DominionMM1
09.09.21 | i really like making Thai food. curries, pad thai, and drunken noodles are in the regular rotation.
i also really like doing mexican food and creole/cajun basics like gumbo and jambalaya |
Dedes
09.09.21 | Jambalaya is soooooo good. Staple at my apartment cause it's so filling and it keeps well imo.
Also @ars we hear sauce ricotta and mozz in a metal tin over a big grill. Like the kind you see in fry joints for flipping burgers. I mean it's good and all but just...man it ain't even close to what it could be. |
ArsMoriendi
09.09.21 | Not as tragic as microwaved, kinda innovative even, but idk.. |
Dedes
09.09.21 | It's all for speed dude
Takes like literally 10 minutes lol
I remember when one of coworkers first started working he tried tossing a ziti in the oven and my boss told him "what the fuck are you doing!?" "...making a baked ziti??"
The way we do things here is fucking rigged lmao |
WeepingBanana
09.09.21 | I love gigantic dumbass Italian American casseroles. At least once a year I make like 3 weeks worth of eggplant parm and I’m in heaven |
Dedes
12.28.21 | I'm making mead rn any good tips |
Piglet
12.28.21 | To make gud rice just add butter and whole bay leaves. you can't go wrong with a bit of olive oil and garlic either. ur welcum |
Intothepit
12.28.21 | 2-1 water to rice ratio. I'd recommend replacing your water with stock of some kind, and if not add butter and salt. ALWAYS WASH YOUR RICE! Toast it in a small amount of water until it smells nutty and then add your stock or water. Bring to a boil, immediately turn down to a simmer and then cover. Let go for 10 to 15 minutes, and once you see most water absorbed remove the pot from heat and let sit for 5 minutes
Perfect fucking rice evey time. |
Intothepit
12.28.21 | I have a thing for slow cooking. Anything braised over low heat is fucking ace. It develops so much flavor if done right. Best thing in the world is osso bucco over potato Gnocchi with a lemon gremolata. Fucking killer. |
dedex
12.28.21 | once again
rice cooker
although the "ALWAYS WASH YOUR RICE!" advice is on point |
Egarran
12.28.21 | rice cookers are for the weak
Intothepit for the true chad rice cooking |
Dedes
12.28.21 | boys I need mead tips not this what is all this rice talk! |
Egarran
12.28.21 | I try to avoid mead myself.
I could go for some sake, tho. |
Egarran
12.28.21 | Alright cu later! I'll try not to get in an accident. |
WeepingBanana
12.28.21 | For mead I think you just add honey to yellowtail moscato and you’re good!! 👍 |
Intothepit
12.28.21 | I get better rice without the rice cooker, so what does that tell you? |
Intothepit
12.28.21 | And fuck mead. Drink some pure grain alcohol like an adult and die. |
WeepingBanana
12.28.21 | I have an instantpot with a rice cooker setting that I’m sure makes great rice, but do I really wanna drag that thing out and go thru the annoying process of cleaning just for rice? I pretty much use the same method as pit (not sure what you mean by ‘toast in water’ tho) and it’s perfectly fine. I’m pretty much always etouffeeing the shit out of my rice anyways so perfectly separate grains of rice doesn’t really matter |

12.28.21 | cheese is cultures |

12.28.21 | Every week I meal prep Korean spicy braised tofu w/ rice and vegetable bowls |

12.28.21 | Also I bought a decent japanese rice cooker and I can never go back |
WeepingBanana
12.28.21 | I just can’t justify a big thing taking up space in my kitchen that only has one single function |
Dedes
12.29.21 | @banana
I'm brewing it from scratch
I'm sure you could bullshit mead that way but actual mead is made with fermented honey |
Dedes
12.29.21 | I'm not knocking it cause it could be great but I want to hopefully expand my horizons into other brewing if I nail this down |
WeepingBanana
12.29.21 | Nah I’m just playing. I think I’ve only had mead a couple times, way too sweet for me |
