01.17.22 | Any other obvious examples? |
JohnnyoftheWell
01.17.22 | my brother told me that black country new road's og frontman stayed in his flat the other night
and that he didn't know who the band were but found out later that he was kicked out for sexual assault shit
so, uh, ig current wankerboi is an upgrade! |
CottonSalad
01.17.22 | Dark Tranquillity and In Flames - defining moves for both.
I would also say Atilla Csihar and Mayhem...but that's more debatable for some |
garas
01.17.22 | Hat was very good as well in Gorgoroth.
I'd add Spellgoth for Horna, and even though many would hate me for saying that, but: Dio for Black Sabbath. Ozzy wasn't constantly *that* good. |
JohnnyoftheWell
01.17.22 | Oh also THE GATHERING oh my days, imagine being in that band and having Anneke van Giersbergen drop in to replace whoever the fuck was in for their godawful second album |
manosg
01.17.22 | Anneke on The Gathering. |
JeremiahBullfrog
01.17.22 | some good examples here folks yeah
Johnny - big yikes
Cotton - i must wholeheartedly disagree! Maniac and Dead are a solid >>> Attila for me personally |

01.17.22 | putting your whole heart in is all one can strive for! |
Pikazilla
01.17.22 | There's always that one cunt who prefers the OG Cannibal Corpse vocalist |
JeremiahBullfrog
01.17.22 | Can't imagine a world in which i'd choose Chris over Corpsegrinder, hail the mighty necc |
SAPoodle
01.17.22 | Opeth
Mikael Åkerfeldt was originally the bassist, crazy to think that now |
JeremiahBullfrog
01.17.22 | Hard to think of Mikael as anything but the heart and soul of Opeth in every way tbh |
lowkeykindofaunit
01.17.22 | Omg when I read the list name one of the first things I thought about was 5 so I’m glad you included it. I just went down a rabbit hole the other night of seeing what Denis has been up and good god… that man needs therapy. |
JeremiahBullfrog
01.17.22 | Honestly seems like such a shit dude, I mean I obviously don't know the guy, but I'd rather work with the taliban than Denis Stoff |
manosg
01.17.22 | Another easy one is Ian Gillan over Rod Evans in Deep Purple. |
onionbubs
01.17.22 | spencer chamberlain replacing dallas taylor is prob the biggest example i can think of |
MrSirLordGentleman
01.17.22 | good to emphasize that Paul rules as well on 3 |
Egarran
01.17.22 | >The Gathering
Still my only 1 rating, I just can't stand him |
JKing92
01.17.22 | Interesting list. I'd personally include Pink Floyd here -- I don't hate Syd Barrett (in fact, I think Piper at the Gates of Dawn is a very good album, though I don't think it is as fantastic as the vast majority of their work from the '70s), but Waters and Gilmour are on a whole other level, and elevated Floyd to something more (in fact, unpopular opinion: A Saucerful of Secrets > Piper). |

01.17.22 | I'm in the minority that actually prefers Paul on vocals with Maiden. His vocal approach fit those first two albums so damn well imo. Although I'm not sure if he would have fit so well on some of the later material. I just really dig the vibe that he contributed to the albums that he was on. I love Barnes material with Cannibal Corpse but I'm so glad they parted ways with him before his vocals became the fried mess that they became shortly after he left the band. |
Koris
01.17.22 | Symphony X - Russell Allen replacing Rod Tyler. Rod wasn't bad or anything, but Russell is in a completely different league |
warlordfun
01.18.22 | Michael Kiske over Kai Hansen in Helloween
Kai Hansen over Ralf Scheepers in Gamma Ray
Timo Kotipelto over Timo Tolkki in Stratovarius
James Labrie over Charlie Dominici in Dream Theater
D.C. Cooper over Henrik Brockmann in Royal Hunt
Joey Belladona on Anthrax
Ray Alder over John Arch in Fates Warning and the list goes on |
Madbutcher3
01.18.22 | Messiah Marcolin in Candlemass
Peter Tagtgren in Bloodbath (depending on who you ask i suppose)
Chuck Billy replacing Zetro in Testament
|
JeremiahBullfrog
01.18.22 | Hot Bloodbath Take Butcher |
Madbutcher3
01.18.22 | i think he's a somewhat better dm vocalist than akerfeldt with more range and a similarly distinctive voice |
peartnoy
12.15.22 | Super late to this list but
Dream Theater. I dare someone to disagree with me. Especially in the I&W and Awake era. Young James Labrie was special. |
