02.27.22 | haven't heard the new Bambara yet, and should probs check one of Amorphis/Immolation/Voivod to pretend that metal representation matters but otherwise it's maybe a wrap |

02.27.22 | BC,NR bout to get even better cuz the guitar was a non-event, the lyrics are the satirical poetry workshop piece you complement and slowly realize by the reaction they were genuine, and the vocals are vocals |

02.27.22 | i am geniunely impressed by how much people seemed to like the new BC;NR album, despite having their reservations with the 1st one. To me there doesn't seem to be that much of a distance. the musicianship and tightness of the band was already there in the 1st album. The boring composition, the predictable nature of it, the terrible vocals all remain mostly unchanged. I just don't see how you could give the 1st one a 2 or a 3 and then jump up to a 4.
It's more like a 2.3 for the 1st, 2.7 for the 2nd imo.
BC;NR just feels like a band i'll never truly come to enjoy, tbh. |
theBoneyKing
02.27.22 | Idk man, the new BCNR barely sounds like the same band to me, certainly the vocal style is quite different and even if the instrumental palette is mostly the same, the stylistic touchstones are also quite different. |

02.28.22 | @boney what im tryna get at is that i don't see how you could love their new album without at least enjoying their 1st album. It's not that much of a difference in style and execution to me. |
theBoneyKing
02.28.22 | I mean ultimately even if the style were exactly the same, 1) it’s a different set of songs and 2) the emotional core of the new one is totally different, as far as I can tell, and all I can say is it connected with that aspect of the new one intensely while the other one I didn’t connect with at all beyond saying “this is pretty cool every now and then”; different time and place too, for me personally at least. Sometimes the way we connect with things goes beyond what’s just there “on the page” so to speak. But I digress; your opinion is valid too. |
rabidfish
02.28.22 | well that's also something i have big issues with, the personal emotional core of the album, because for as much """authentic""" as it were, it still comes off forced to me, i can't really explain it other than shallow. It's shallow asf music, very bland, always feels safe, uknow, like i know exactly where it'll go next. I hate that feeling, in every piece of media, and i know that there's a sort of innate pleasure to resolution of tension that's at the base of music theory, but i guess there's this "all sharp edges smoothened out" feeling to their music that takes me out of it. |
