| Cave In Tomorrow (+ other early August shows)
Pretty stoked! Last time I posted a list like this, though, the band (No Devotion) ended up cancelling the next day, so I may be tempting fate here. | 1 | | Cave In Heavy Pendulum
Playing Das Ottobar 8/4 (tomorrow wooohooo) - This album has remained in steady rotation since it dropped, truly cannot wait for this show. While I'm sure this will (justifiably) dominate the proceedings, hoping for some deeper cuts; part of me wouldn't be mad if they bust out their surprisingly faithful cover of "Harvest Moon" as a tribute to Caleb, and I'll weep like a baby. | 2 | | Author and Punisher Ursus Americanus
Opening for Cave In. A band I certainly recognize by reputation, but have never really delved into. I picked the album because I like its title, but any recommended starting points from actual fans to brush up before tomorree's show would be much appreciated! | 3 | | Burial Waves Holy Ground
Also opening for Cave In. Side project of members from a few Baltimore acts like Black Clouds and Pianos Become the Teeth; honestly, and I say this as a massive Wait for Love apologist, but this EP hits MUCH, much harder than any of those new Pianos singles have so far. | 4 | | Dethklok Dethalbum II
Playing the Fillmore Philadelphia on 8/7 - Hard maybe on this one, given that it's A) in Philly, B) on a Sunday, and C) costs like $60 (before fees). Counterpoint is, I'm incredibly glad this project has been resurrected, and who tf knows how much longer it'll go back into hibernation, so...talk me into it. | 5 | | Dance Gavin Dance Jackpot Juicer
Playing Baltimore Soundstage on 8/8 - Another iffy one. Was supposed to see them open for Coheed last month, before, uh, everything. Somehow, this costs more than Dethklok. And it's a Monday. Pretty unlikely. | 6 | | The Dear Hunter Antimai
Playing Ottobar 8/12 - Alright, back in the realm of shows I'm actually locked in for (and a Friday, to boot!). Have yet to listen to this new one (hoping to pick it up at the show), but that's almost beside the point; Casey always puts on a fantastic show, so I'm there regardless. One of the few artists (in my circle, at least) whose between-song banter is legitimately a large chunk of the reason to go. | 7 | | The World Is a Beautiful Place... Illusory Walls
Opening for Dear Hunter. Saw them headline off this album last year, so have an uneasy feeling this'll feel like a slight downgrade by comparison, but certainly curious to see which songs make the cut for their abbreviated set. | 8 | | Tanner Merritt Cyrus I: Weight of Reflection
Also opening for Dear Hunter. Finally got my Cyrus vinyl, so this is truly great timing. Lineup for this show is gotdamn STACKED. | 9 | | Joyce Manor 40 oz. to Fresno
Playing Ram's Head Live 8/16 - Their latest album is like 15 minutes long (aka, the length of some individual TWIABP songs haha), so I feel like hoping for a discography run-through isn't really all that far-fetched. (Personally, I still stan Cody.) Fun fact: last show I went to at this venue had to be moved outside due to the A/C being on the fritz, and despite the humidity and looming threat of thunderstorms, ended up being one of the most enjoyable concert experiences I've had this year. I'm not saying I don't want them to get A/C back in the venue proper, pronto, but...I'm not NOT sayin' it. Just sayin'. | 10 | | Citizen Everybody Is Going to Heaven
Opening for Joyce Manor. Definitely fell off this band a bit with their latest one, but curious whether they'll stick with those songs/that sound or do sort of a blend of their different eras. Also, question for the class: At what point does a band in this emo/gaze/grunge/whatever-core scene turning to, like, synthpop (no shade) *become* the cliche versus the expectation-subversion? Discuss. | 11 | | Prince Daddy and The Hyena Cosmic Thrill Seekers
Also opening for Joyce Manor - Newer band to me, but I've given this album a couple spins and really dig it. Haven't checked out their latest yet, but seems to be well-received around these parts, at least. Excited for this. | |

08.03.22 | Damn, lucky. Have a good time. I'd def see Dethklok as well but obv I don't know your schedule or anything but that's just what I'd do.
Will also check 3 | thecheatisnotdead
08.03.22 | Shall do fo sho!
Re: Dethklok - that's fair. I'm in Bmore, and I feel like if the show was an hour closer (and ideally like $20 cheaper), I'd be there in a heartbeat. Still, a buddy of mine and I are trying to psych ourselves into it, so we shall see haha | AlexKzillion
08.03.22 | seeing cave in friday in philly... farthest I've ever driven for a show very hyped | Jamdbz
08.03.22 | Cave In puts on such a great show. The NYC date ruled despite a bit of a sleepy crowd | ConcubinaryCode
08.03.22 | $60 is a bit much but hopefully the set would make up for it and it is the first time they've played since 2019 and that time was the first time since 2014. Looks like they played a lot from dethalbum 1 as well. Is the venue two hours away or did I map it wrong? | thecheatisnotdead
08.03.22 | Probably closer to 2.5 from where we'd be, so...def not totally outlandish, but the fact that it's a Sunday doesn't do it any favors. Then again, if ever there were a solid reason to take a Monday off work... | Relinquished
08.03.22 | no deep cuts from Cave In besides Halo of Flies but favorites will be played
you better go | ConcubinaryCode
08.03.22 | I'd have to drive like 4 hours for abq IF a band plays there. Like 7 or 8 for Phoenix or Denver which sucks. I live in one of the worst spots in the US for live music I think. But I do get beautiful scenery so I guess it's all a tradeoff. I'd still go in your position, what's one day from work? | thecheatisnotdead
08.04.22 | Wow, definitely puts it into perspective. | Colliiiin
08.04.22 | Cave In should be a definite must. Also Author & Punisher is fantastic. My fave album of their’s is Drone Machines, so either check that or the most recent album (prob what they’ll mostly be playing). | thecheatisnotdead
08.04.22 | Oh, fret not, I'm locked in for Cave In haha
Appreciate the tip on A&P, will try to give those a spin today. |
