| Fall 2022
Oct -Dec | 1 | | Alvvays Blue Rev
They keep getting better. Blue Rev has melodies that wash over you like warm waves in the sunset, something that Alvvays has always been working on improving. Some say it doesn't stand out much on a first listen, but I'm not hearing it - the only two oddball tracks for me are Very Online Guy and Pomeranian Spinster, but by my second spin they went down fine.
4.2/5
Many Mirrors, Belinda Says, Velveteen, Lottery Noises, Easy On Your Own? | 2 | | Jean Dawson CHAOS NOW*
Hits with urgency, immediacy, like a tractor trailer sending you screaming into a foam pit Chaos Now takes alt. rock tropes that fit into a gentler mode of audio and gives them a new edge through his vocal delivery. And he got Earl Sweatshirt to sing. Damn
3.7/5
THREE HEADS, KIDS EAT PILLS, BAD FRUIT, SCREW HEAD, PIRATE RADIO | 3 | | Chelmico gokigen
Feels like the drive home after the victory lap. Chelmico stay on top of their game with impeccable flows over unique beats, and a lot of these tracks have a casual, chill atmosphere about them. For night walks to the corner store.
3.6/5
Meidaimae, 300 Million Yen, COZY, Miterudake, moderation | 4 | | Open Mike Eagle Component System With The Auto Reverse
Need to let this one settle in more but OME is bare naked vulnerable on this one, and it's for the better. The features add a lot and all gel well with the heavy bars that come out of Mr Eagle
3.7/5
I'll fight you, circuit city, burner account, kites, CD only bonus track | 5 | | Bjork Fossora
Clarinets, raves, choirs, sendoffs for a family member brings the family together
3.9/5
Sorrowful Soil, Fossora, Allow, Ancestress | 6 | | Nickolas Mohanna Sight Drawings
Modern life struggling to keep up
3.5/5
Terrestrial Causes, Earthworks | 7 | | Lucrecia Dalt ¡Ay!
Flits between plodding and magnetic. Unfortunately mostly plodding
2.9/5
Contenida, No Tiempre | 8 | | Fazerdaze Break
Fazerdaze finally returns with a bit of a busier, edgier sound still drenched in a good bit of reverb.
4/5
Overthink It | 9 | | The 1975 Being Funny In A Foreign Language
The leanest 1975 record yet starts with an incredible 6 track run of interesting indie-rock synth-pop creations. Unfortunately one dull track halts the momentum, and the slower tracks that fill up the end of the record are good, but not as good as what comes before.
3.8/5
The 1975, Oh Caroline, Part Of The Band | 10 | | Let's Eat Grandma Two Ribbons
Feels kind of generic at points - but it's well crafted synthpop with nice, fun vocals.
3.1/5
Happy New Year, Strange Conversations | 11 | | Taylor Swift Midnights
MIDnights. I didn't realize how hokey Swift lyrics could sound, but leave it to Taylor to say 'i feel like everybody is a sexy baby and i'm a monster up on the hill'. Few good tunes though
3/5
You're On Your Own Kid, Question...?, Mastermind | 12 | | M.I.A. Mata
Anti-vaxx defending, Candace Owens selfie taking, Sri Lankan songstress takes it back to succesfully mix the old with the new. Bars are still whack. But the beats are insane.
3.3/5
Marigold, Mata Life, FIASOM Pt. II, Beep, Time Traveller | 13 | | Arctic Monkeys The Car
The primates work on the cinematic sound they tried and failed to ace on their previous album - they make good headway here.
3.8/5
Sculpture Of Anything Goes, Body Paint, The Car, Hello You | 14 | | Carly Rae Jepsen The Loneliest Time
A successful show of the 'concise three minute' pop song album, ending in a lengthy impressive ballad and the lengthy impressive drowning in disco title track.
4/5
The Loneliest Time, Surrender My Hear, Bad Thing Twice, Western Wind | 15 | | Sobs Air Guitar
Short, varied, hard to pin down pop-rock. Goes over more genres then it has tracks, and does it well.
3.7/5 | 16 | | Deaton Chris Anthony Sid The Kid
meandering and overstaying its welcome, DCA has a lot of ideas that just aren't fleshed out to the degree they should be. It's for the most part an engaging listen, but once the tricks get old, they get OLD.
2.9/5
Shed Head, Behind The Lockers With Hunter, I Told You I Hate This Feeling | 17 | | Otoboke Beaver SUPER CHAMPON
Fun, fast, hard punk
3.6/5
Pardon?, Dirty Old Fart Is Waiting For My Reaction, I Checked Your Cellphone, Let's Shopping after show | 18 | | Palm Nicks and Grazes
math rock? idk how to describe this band
3.9/5
On The Sly, Away Kit, Mirror Mirror | 19 | | R.A.P. Ferreira 5 to the Eye with Stars
3.6/5 | 20 | | Nas Kings Disease III
4.1/5 | 21 | | Tomberlin i don’t know who needs to hear this...
Tranquil singer-songwriter folk
4/5
tap, collect caller, idkwntht | 22 | | Ethel Cain Preacher's Daughter
I need to listen to this one again, it's massive - emotionally charged concept album where every turn and meandering road the sound follows is enjoyable
4.2/5
Gibson Girl, Ptolomaea, Televangelism, American Teenager | 23 | | Capsule (JPN) METRO PULSE
Nakata's take on a synthwave sound mixed with city-pop gives us a very vocal CAPSULE album that is danceable, has catchy melodies, and is surpisingly solid from start to finish. The duo's best work in over a decade. 3.8/5
Start, Give Me A Ride, Virtual Freedom, Escape From Reality | |

11.08.22 | Johnny I think Fishing is their best - good combo of varied and accessible. if you aren't really into that you prolly aren't in to chelmico. this new one's pretty good tho |
