| Underappreciated Bands And Their Best Albums
A lot of my favorite bands are seemingly unheard of
or vastly unappreciated here on Sputnik. Here's the
top 10 and their best
albums. | 1 | | I Am Spoonbender Buy Hidden Persuaders
A brilliant review can actually be found from Trey Spencer on this site, but
only eight votes besides his have been cast! The album is free, so check it
out. | 2 | | Kevin Gilbert The Shaming Of The True
This is basically The Wall's weird, unloved brother. A concept album about a
rock
star, the album sorts quickly through funk rock, a capella, trance, and hard
rock
in a brilliant fashion. Although Kevin Gilbert was a bit of a prog guy, this
album
defies all boundaries and is truly a masterpiece of modern music. | 3 | | Breather Resist Charmer
Breather Resist is all the members of Young Widows working with an insane
screamer
on a metalcore album. They utilize bizarre time signatures and phrasing,
completely
original tonalities, and Kurt Ballou's masterful production to produce one of
the most
crushing albums I've ever heard. I consider this on par with We Are the Romans
and
Jane Doe as far as heavy music goes. | 4 | | 31knots Talk Like Blood
youtube.com/watch?v=j1V6zTp3GKo | 5 | | The Paper Chase Young Bodies Heal Quickly, You Know
These guys make brilliant, highly emotional art/noise/punk/indie/whatever.
They are very minimalist and use strictly dissonant guitars, harsh vocals,
frantic drumming, and very basic pop sensibilities. Very hard to describe,
but very emotional and cathartic to listen to. I've only heard this album, but
it's fantastic. | 6 | | The Vogue As Brass and Satin
Soundoff: The Vogue have a very unique style of music, by using minimalist
sensibilities and
synthesizers to create their bizarre post-hardcore-esque music, their music
is strangely
atmospheric for their type, and it creates a very enveloping, dream-like
sound.
The Vogue's unique musical style is powered equally by the strong, angsty
vocals of a young
Johnny Whitney, the thick, textured keyboard playing of K.C. Wescott, and
the avant-punk
guitar stylings of genius Devin Welch. But the true magic of the band is in
their brilliant
songwriting, where each song is created with utmost care to create a
unique texture and feel
for every set of lyrics, making the album quite an experience. Featuring
guitarist Devin Welch of Past Lives! | 7 | | Shoplifting Body Stories
Really original, enjoyable experimental punk that uses biting grooves to
create their edge. Featuring guitarist Devin Welch of Past Lives! | 8 | | Helms Alee Night Terror
Helms Alee combines crushing fuzzy heavy sections with throat-shredding
hardcore screaming with really unique, experimental calm sections with lots
of crazy guitar. | 9 | | Femme Fatale From the Abundance of the Heart, the Mouth Speaks
Death From Above 1979's bassist, Jesse F. Keeler, has a one man band noise-punk
outfit
called Femme Fatale that is completely fucking insane. Songs never reach over 4
minutes
long and cycle through more musical ideas than most bands would put in 2 songs
in
usually 3 minutes or less. Completely mad but with tons of pop sensibilities
mixed in with
the noise to create memorable, fun music rather than just extremely aggressive
tunes. | 10 | | Melt Banana Cell-Scape
Melt Banan makes frantic dissonant cyber noise punk with a 4 foot tall Asian
woman
as their vocalist who likes making random yelping noises. If this deion entices
you, you'll like it. | |

06.23.09 | Check out The Paper Chase album, Now You Are One of Us. It's good too. They definitely got their own thing going with the 100% dissonant guitar, vocals, violins, and piano lines. I don't know of another band that does that. | anticarebear13
04.29.13 | Hey Avirov, do you still have the links to the mediafire of these? I'm really interested in getting ahold of The Vogue's "As Brass And Satin". It's pretty darn rare and as a Blood Brother's fan I would really like to add it to my collection!!
