| Top 50 Hair/glam Metal Albums
Hair Metal. Arguably the most reviled genre in music. Although this reputation is well deserved in some places, there were actually quite a few gems released in this era of excess. Granted, there is no depth in hair metal, nor was it ever intended to be there in the first place. All of these records can be enjoyed if the listener takes it for what it was intended for: good time rock n roll. To ride a massive cliche, if you find yourself in the need to crush beers, drive fast, and bang chicks on hot summer nights in the city, this is the shit to do it to.
Note: I did not include Guns n Roses as I consider them apart from these bands, more of a true hard rock band like AC/DC. I did not include Kiss because I consider them a Classic Rock band. Let the flaming begin! | 1 | | Def Leppard Pyromania

01.21.10 | So yeah, I had descriptions written for all of these, hit submit, and it asked me to log in, erasing everything. I had logged in beforehand. Shit. | BigHans
01.21.10 | I can't wait to get flamed for this. | Satellite
01.21.10 | You don't deserve to get flamed for this; there's some decent shit here. Need to check some of them out. | ninjuice
01.21.10 | HERE I AM
ROCK YOU LIKE A HURRICANE
Several good songs here, idk about albums | Athom
01.21.10 | def leppard owns | TheSpirit
01.21.10 | Needs every 80's Motley Album. In the tip five slots. Then Skid Row, Then Cinderella, Then Fastway. | BigHans
01.21.10 | Leppards three album run of High n Dry, Pyromania, and Hysteria is unmatched in the genre and pretty much in all of hard rock if you include album sales. | BallsToTheWall
01.21.10 | 2,9, 15, 18, 19, are classics. | TheSpirit
01.21.10 | LA guns if pretty sweet, Tales From The Strip is amazing it was only released in 2004 | BigHans
01.21.10 | Needs every 80's Motley Album. In the tip five slots. Then Skid Row, Then Cinderella, Then Fastway.
We talked about it yesterday but I really can't stand Girls, Girls, Girls or to a greater extent, Theatre of Pain. It was hard not to put Leppard and Crue as the top 6, easily could have. | TheSpirit
01.21.10 | I know we talked about it yesterday i'm just a Motley fanboy haha | BigHans
01.21.10 | Me too, own all the albums, Read the Dirt 3 times, and got their autographs (granted, it was in 94 with Corabi).
Long live the Crue. | Dryden
01.21.10 | terrible | TheSpirit
01.21.10 | Corabi era was good as fuck i love the S/T, probably more so then anything they made after (bar SOLA) | AnotherBrick
01.21.10 | hells ya...hair metal rules | BigHans
01.21.10 | Yeah the Motley self titled was about as big a departure as they could have made. I love that album. | avalanche07
01.21.10 | Queensryche? I doubt they count as hair/ glam metal..but walk in the shadow is amazing | BigHans
01.21.10 | I thought about Queensryche but they don't fit the description. Hair Metal bands don't make concept albums like Operation Mindcrime. I also thought about including Accept but decided they were too metal. | avalanche07
01.21.10 | that makes sense | JamieTwort
03.05.10 | Good list, there's some real classics here.
I think W.A.S.P. self titled album should be higher but that's simply beacuse i'm a huge W.A.S.P. fan
I'm not sure if you should have included Slide It In though as i wouldn't really say Whitesnake were glam/hair metal until they released their 1987 album but otherwise good job! | shindip
03.10.10 | no Skid Row? | LepreCon
03.10.10 | Number 9 there, Shindip | shindip
03.10.10 | oops i meant slave to the grind | botb
03.10.10 | mr. big is missing. | tiesthatbind
03.10.10 | Bon Jovi, nice. | BigHans
03.10.10 | Slave To the Grind is the superior album, but its not glam metal, its straight up metal. I wrote a ballwashing review for it awhile back. | BigHans
05.07.10 | Tesla is arguably the best of all of these bands. I thought about doing their discog but went against it because each one would get like 75 views and 3 comments, pretty much a waste of time. | Inveigh
05.07.10 | you like Love At First Sting better than Blackout? Blackout is way better imo | BigHans
05.07.10 | Slighty. I'm a huge fan of the song "i'm Leaving You." | BigHans
05.07.10 | He had a heart of stone, worked 9 to 5 and he worked his FFIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNGERRRRRRRRS TO THE BONNNNNNNNNNNEEEEEEEEEEEE-OOOOOOONE! | Inveigh
05.07.10 | but duuuuude, Can't Live Without You, You Give Me All I Need, When the Smoke Is Going Down... Dynamite?!?!?
yea they both rock though. | BigHans
05.07.10 | Never took you for a hair metal guy Inveigh. | Inveigh
05.07.10 | I'm not really, but back in high school I definitely spun my fair share of Blackout, Pyromania, Slippery When Wet and Skid Row. I was in a punk band, and if you remember back in the early 2000s it was all the rage for punk bands to cover 80s hair metal songs. We did 18 and Life, I Remember You, No One Like You, Bringing On the Heartache and You Give Love a Bad Name (before fucking Atreyu did it). Oh, and Eye of the Tiger too. It ruled. | BigHans
05.07.10 | Yeah, I enjoyed the ressurection of sorts of hair metal in the early part of the decade. I loved it all through the 90's, when it was definitely the most uncool music to like.
Then, by the time 2000 hit it soundly became nostaligic/quasi ironic to like 80's music again. The punk bands thing helped, as well as the rise of bands like the Darkness.
Whether it remains cool in some way or not, it will always probably be one of my top 5 favorite styles of music. | Inveigh
05.07.10 | yeah, I was always down with the 80s even when it wasn't cool. Not always the hair metal thing, but stuff like Depeche Mode, U2, The Police, and other metal like Ozzy, Metallica, Megadeth etc in the 90s when anything 80s was considered really dorky.
I imagine nu-metal will experience a sort of ironic resurrection in the next 5-6 years as well, as it was sort of the hair metal (read, sorta guilty pleasure) for our generation. | BigHans
05.07.10 | Agreed. Gold Cobra will lead the charge. | Inveigh
05.07.10 | HAHA....
exactly. | Brylawski
05.07.10 | hair metal was pretty much one of the worst excesses of the 80's | BigHans
05.07.10 | Which is precisely why it is awesome. | Inveigh
05.07.10 | ^yep. | DaveyBoy
05.07.10 | This list has so much fantastic stuff on it, I think I'm gonna orgasm.
Hysteria would be my #1, but your 1, 3 & 9 would all be there or thereabouts.
List wins though purely for the mention of 27. I thought no-one else here had even heard of Slaughter. "Up all night, sleep all day". | DaveyBoy
05.07.10 | Oh, and in the words of #49...
"If you don't like what you see here, Get the funk out". | BigHans
05.07.10 | Hell yeah Davey.
I was going to do a Def Lep discog but saw you already had it covered. I knew right them that you know whats up.
Slaughter was one of my favorites in 90 when it came out, although everything else they put out after Stick It To Ya was pretty terrible.
Hair Metal ftw. | DaveyBoy
05.07.10 | I dunno man, 'Real Love' does things for me. | TheSpirit
05.07.10 | Dude wheres vinnie vincent invasion. Love Kills is like one of the best poser ballads ever | BigHans
05.07.10 | WONT SOMEBODY SHHOOOOOOOOOOOOW ME, REAL LOVE!
Haha, you forgot to mention Streets of Broken Hearts. | BigHans
05.07.10 | Dude wheres vinnie vincent invasion. Love Kills is like one of the best poser ballads ever
^
Good point, I should have put their debut on here. Boyz are gonna rock has three fucking solos in it. Animal kicks ass, and Substitute is a great melodic hair metal tune. | TheSpirit
